Exposure to lead in gasoline during childhood resulted in many millions of excess cases of psychiatric disorders over the last 75 years, a new study estimates. According to the findings, the national population experienced an estimated 151 million excess mental health disorders attributable to exposure to lead from car exhaust during children’s early development. Lead-associated mental health and personality differences were most pronounced for people born between 1966 and 1986, according to the study. The groups born around 1940 and 2015 had the lowest lead exposure and lead-associated mental illness, the study reported. Blood lead levels have gone way down, but they could go down further,” he said.

CNN —French lawmakers will vote Wednesday on a no-confidence motion that is widely expected to oust the government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, as the country grapples with a deepening political crisis and massive budget deficit. No government has been ousted in a no-confidence vote since 1962 and Barnier would become France’s shortest-serving prime minister in history. But it’s unclear how any future prime minister will find unified support in a divided political landscape and avoid being similarly toppled. This gridlock has made the government’s budget problems much harder to solve. The credit rating agency expects France’s budget deficit to reach 6.2% of GDP by the end of the year.

CNN —Eating at least five tiny servings of dark chocolate each week may lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 21%, according to a new observational study. The study found eating milk chocolate was linked to excessive weight gain over time, a key contributor to the development of type 2 diabetes. Researchers then looked at dark chocolate, milk chocolate and total chocolate consumption among over 111,000 chocolate aficionados. However, when the types of chocolate were factored in, the data showed no significant reduction in diabetes risk when consuming milk chocolate. “For anyone who loves chocolate,” Liu said, “this is a reminder that making small choices, like choosing dark chocolate over milk chocolate, can make a positive difference to their health.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin approved budget plans, raising 2025 military spending to record levels as Moscow seeks to prevail in the war in Ukraine. Lawmakers in both houses of the Russian parliament, the State Duma and Federation Council, had already approved the plans in the past 10 days. Their visit comes as doubts are deepening over what Kyiv can expect from a new U.S. administration led by Donald Trump. Moscow sent 78 drones into Ukraine overnight into Sunday, Ukrainian officials said. In Russia, a child was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack in the Bryansk region bordering Ukraine, according to regional Gov.

Their top objective is to extend the 2017 Trump tax law and prevent $3.3 trillion in tax breaks from expiring at the end of 2025. The reconciliation process bypasses the Senate's 60-vote threshold for most bills, requiring just a majority vote to pass a tax- and spending package once per fiscal year. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., said the GOP is “100%” committed to extending the Trump tax cuts but with “some deviations” from existing law. I’ve heard more than three people [in the House] say that they won’t vote for a tax package that’s not fully offset. “And then we can sit down and work through some areas that we might find agreement on for a second reconciliation bill, as well.”

It was all feast and no famine at the Thanksgiving box office this year. "Moana 2" led the frame with $221 million for the five-day period, a significant overperformance compared to the $100 million box office analysts had initially expected. It is now the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all time at the domestic box office. This year's overperformance at the box office during the Thanksgiving period has also helped narrow the gap between 2024 and 2023's hauls. Heading into this holiday period, the 2024 box office was down 11% compared to the previous year's numbers.

When asked once in a question-and-answer sit-down with the school to describe St. John’s, Carnesecca said: “home.”It was home where he coached St. John’s to 18 20-win seasons and 18 NCAA Tournament appearances. Carnesecca coached St. John’s to the NIT title in 1989, although by then the tournament had long been a poor cousin to the NCAAs. In 1958, he took an assistant’s job at St. John’s, his alma mater, where he had played baseball but not varsity basketball. Essentially, St. John’s was getting ready for a road trip to Pittsburgh in January and Carnesecca was under the weather.
