REUTERS/Angelika Warmuth/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsMUNICH, Sept 6 (Reuters) - German carmakers are ready to tackle their worst crisis, an executive at Chinese EV maker Xpeng said on Wednesday, as China's carmakers expand overseas, putting pressure on Europe in the race to electrify. Globally, China leads EV sales, the latest data from tech industry researcher Counterpoint shows. The U.S. has the fastest growing EV sales with Germany in third place. "The Chinese companies are flooding into overseas markets like mushrooms, deepening their sense of crisis," Gu said. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said EV competition from abroad should be a spur, not a worry for German carmakers.

REUTERS/Fabian Bimmer Acquire Licensing RightsSept 6 (Reuters) - Accelera, a zero-emissions business unit of Cummins (CMI.N), Daimler Trucks & Buses US Holding and PACCAR (PCAR.O) said on Wednesday they formed a joint venture to advance battery cell production in the United States. Daimler Truck, Accelera and PACCAR will each own 30% of the joint venture, which will initially focus on LFP battery technology family for commercial battery-electric trucks. "This planned joint venture enables economies of scale beyond Daimler Truck," said Martin Daum, CEO of Daimler Truck. LFP battery-cell maker EVE Energy (300014.SZ) will also serve as the technology partner in the joint venture with a 10% ownership. Arjun Kharpal | CNBCMunich, GERMANY — The IAA in Munich, Germany is one of Europe's most high-profile auto shows. And it was dominated by Chinese electric car firms looking to expand their presence on the continent and challenge incumbents from BMW to Ford in the new era of battery-powered vehicles. But a slowing market at home, due to tepid consumer spending after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted, coupled with an attractive market in Europe, has seen Chinese firms launch cars abroad and expand their footprint. Many of the European carmakers have been seen lagging in their push into EVs at a time when Chinese players have launched dozens of new vehicles. watch nowThe entrance of Chinese firms into Europe is seen as a threat to big automakers who have been perceived to be moving too slow on EVs.

UBS has downgraded both Volkswagen and Renault over mounting competition from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. 1 automaker, the company is at risk of being marginalized as Chinese companies, such as Warren Buffet-backed BYD , take market share. 1 automaker in Europe, Volkswagen also faces intensifying competition as higher numbers of cheaper Chinese electric vehicles are imported into the continent. With about 70% of sales in Europe and a 10% market share, the investment bank said Renault is highly exposed to competition from Chinese automakers and Tesla. We estimate Renault's European market share of c10% today will reduce towards 7% by 2030," said UBS analysts led by David Lesne in a separate note to clients.

"The major shareholders are certainly not the reason for the poor valuation of the share," Wolfgang Porsche, who leads the supervisory boards of both Porsche SE (PSHG_p.DE) and Porsche AG, told Reuters on the sidelines of the IAA car show in Munich. The Porsche and Piech families essentially control Volkswagen via their holding firm Porsche SE, which holds most of the voting rights in the Wolfsburg-based carmaker. "We have to get an even better grip on performance and costs," Porsche, 80, said, adding Volkswagen had to become more competitive. With a view to its competitors, the group could not assume that it would be able to avoid cutting costs, Porsche, who also sits on Volkswagen's supervisory board, said. Regarding the families' closely-watched succession planning, Porsche said that his nephew, Ferdinand Oliver Porsche, who also sits on the supervisory boards of Volkswagen, Porsche SE and Porsche AG, was a natural future successor were he to step down.

London CNN —Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled new “close-to-production” concept vehicles that could outdo Tesla cars by going more than 466 miles on a single charge. That’s compared with a range of less than 380 miles for any Tesla model. The German automaker’s Concept CLA Class, revealed Sunday at the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, comprises four new models: a sedan, a station wagon and two SUVs. The vehicles will each have a range of more than 750 kilometers (466 miles), versus Tesla’s (TSLA) Model 3 and Model S, which have the brand’s highest ranges and each can go for just under 375 miles off one charge. Overall, charging speed and range are expected to be improved by up to 30% compared with the brand’s previous models, according to the company.
