WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Friday rejected Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein’s last-ditch request to be included on the ballot in Nevada, a key swing state. The court in a brief unsigned order left in place a decision by the Nevada Supreme Court that blocked Stein from appearing on the ballot over a dispute concerning whether the Green Party had submitted the correct paperwork. Jay Sekulow, an ally of former President Donald Trump, represented the Green Party. In Nevada, which is expected to be closely contested, the Democrats sued to ensure Stein was not on the ballot. The case arose from correspondence between the Nevada Green Party and state officials this year over language to include on its petition seeking signatures to appear on the ballot.

CNN —Four days of hearings on the 2023 implosion of the Titan submersible which killed all five people on board concluded this week with more damning testimony recounting multiple safety incidents over the years. Lahey said he saw the Titan in March 2019 while in the Bahamas and was “not impressed,” and told OceanGate staff members how he felt about it. I saw evidence where they were crimping cables to hold on weights, it just looked amateurish in its execution,” he said. “Anyone that felt safe going to depths in the Titan was deluded or delusional, it was an experimental vessel, it was clear that it was dangerous,” said Hagen. CNN —A former OceanGate scientific director said the Titan submersible suffered a malfunction six days before imploding in June 2023, killing all five people on board. The dive was aborted because, upon resurfacing, a platform malfunction caused by an issue with the variable ballast tank, which controlled the submersible’s buoyancy, caused the platform to invert to 45 degrees with the back bow facing upward. Because the platform malfunction took considerable time to correct, the dive was aborted and they returned to the surface to fix the issue. He said he knew the Titan submersible had not been inspected by the United States Coast Guard in 2021, 2022 or 2023. Ross also mentioned two incidents during the 2022 Titanic expedition dives, including a loud bang heard while surfacing in Dive 80.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Thursday rebuffed a California lawyer's attempt to trademark the phrase "Trump too small," a reference to a crude joke made about former President Donald Trump. Rubio joked about what he said were Trump's small hands, adding: "And you know what they say about guys with small hands." Elster, an employment lawyer and progressive activist, applied to register "Trump too small" — a double-entendre meant to insinuate a correspondingly small penis — with the trademark office in 2018. The case is the latest of several the Supreme Court has taken up recently concerning free speech rights in the trademark context.
