Club holding Broadcom 's (AVGO) investment prospects look bright – with or without cloud software maker VMWare (VMW) under its corporate roof. For now, though, the companies remain apart after Broadcom's planned $61 billion takeover of VMWare did not close Monday, as previously scheduled. AVGO YTD mountain Broadcom YTD With VMWare, Broadcom would be a company with sales split roughly 50-50 between its traditional semiconductor division — an artificial intelligence beneficiary — and software, which typically is higher-margin revenue. Without VMWare, Broadcom would have freed up its capacity to reward shareholders in a different, but still meaningful, way. Even with the buyback silver lining, our hope is Broadcom completes the VMWare deal because it should boost Broadcom's earnings over time.

The Senate, controlled by Lopez Obrador's leftist National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) and its allies, approved the measure to do away with the trusts worth some 15 billion pesos ($820 million). Last week, the lower house of Congress voted to wind up the trusts, whose funds are due to be absorbed by the government. Mexico's Supreme Court said this month the elimination of the trusts will affect workers in the judiciary, pointing to their pensions and other social security benefits. "How does the judiciary benefit the Mexican people, or the majority of Mexicans? Critics of Lopez Obrador see the judiciary as a bulwark against his efforts to concentrate power.

Frankly, I’d rather sift flour into a small bowl, peel potatoes with a dull paring knife or winkle out pomegranate arils wearing a white T-shirt than sort through green beans. Cooked just a bit longer — all the way through — a green bean can become its fullest self. Of course, you could buy green beans, already stemmed, even washed and “ready to eat,” but they’ll have been slowly molding in their wet plastic bags, sitting on the grocery-store shelf. Cooked just a bit longer — all the way through — a green bean can become its fullest self. The resultant sauce was rich and deep, the same kind of magic that’s in a bowl of Scott’s braised green beans and potatoes.

The report said Google's deliberations follow a standoff between the company and Broadcom over the price of the TPU chips. Broadcom, Google and Marvell did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. Broadcom is seen as the second-biggest winner from the generative AI boom after Nvidia (NVDA.O). Google co-designs its AI chips with Broadcom and tech giant has already lined up the semiconductor firm for its sixth generation processor, the analysts said. That push has accelerated this year after prices surged for Nvidia's H100, the chip that powers most generative AI apps, to nearly double its original cost of $20,000.

Excluding these AI-related sales, semiconductor sales have largely stabilized around the $6 billion level and management continues to think that a "soft landing" is still in the cards. In fact, networking revenue was up 20% versus the year ago period and now represents 40% of revenue at the company's semiconductor segment. Elsewhere within semiconductor solutions, wireless revenues (24% of segment revenue) were flat year-over-year, as was revenue for server storage connectivity (17% of segment revenue). Broadband sales (16% of segment revenue) moderated to 1% year-over-year growth following nine-consecutive quarters of double-digit growth. Industrial sales (about 3% of segment revenue) were down 3% year-over-year.
