President Dimon would be square peg in Oval hole
  + stars: | 2023-06-02 | by ( John Foley | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +4 min
NEW YORK, June 2 (Reuters Breakingviews) - The idea of Jamie Dimon running for U.S. president makes sense in one way: After helming JPMorgan (JPM.N), the biggest bank in the Western world, there aren’t many bigger jobs. There are big reasons, however, why Dimon would be a square peg in an Oval Office. If part of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s appeal rested on empty claims of business savvy, Dimon is the real deal. Trump’s financial failings and Epstein connections didn’t stick, but Dimon probably won’t want to test voters again. Follow @johnsfoley on TwitterCONTEXT NEWSBillionaire fund manager Bill Ackman tweeted on May 31 that JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon should run for president in the 2024 elections.

A representative for Elizabeth Holmes did not immediately respond to Insider's request for a comment.

[1/2] Feb 9, 2023; Phoenix, Arizona, US; Sports commentator Rich Eisen poses for a photo on the red carpet before the NFL Honors award show at Symphony Hall. “I hung up the phone and became the owner of my own business,” Eisen recalls about buying back his show from DirecTV, which was shuttering its Audience Network. This year’s edition will kick off April 27 in Kansas City, Missouri, and Eisen will be assuming hosting duties once again. But when he thinks about his financial life, Eisen does not focus much on areas like stock picking. When I first got that call, I didn’t have the first clue about how to run a business," Eisen says.
Tucker Carlson's abrupt ousting from Fox News is more like an "execution," according to a fired CNN anchor. "Not being given a chance to sign off is the television equivalent of an execution," Brian Stelter said in Vanity Fair. Yet Carlson, Fox News' top-rated host, never got the chance to say goodbye to his audience, thanks to his sudden ousting on Monday by the conservative media powerhouse. Advertisements featuring Fox News personalities, including Tucker Carlson, adorn the front of the News Corporation building, March 13, 2019. "The takeaway, at least for some TV insiders, is that Carlson was shoved— hard—by Fox management," Stelter wrote in Vanity Fair.
The last "Tucker Carlson Tonight" episode aired on Fox News on Friday, April 21. Carlson's final show covered Hunter Biden, racist home appraisals, inclusive Mother's Day cards, and pizza. The Fox News host seemed to have no idea Friday would be his last time helming "Tucker Carlson Tonight." Carlson also spent time covering immigration, fentanyl, the casting of "Queen Cleopatra", inclusive Mother's Day cards, and the Pentagon leak. His final words on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" before digging into another bite of pizza were: "We'll be back on Monday.
A top tip for central banks: talk less, smile more

WASHINGTON, April 11 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Investors hang on central bankers’ every word, hoping to gain an edge for their next trade. But with consumer prices rising at the fastest pace in decades, central bankers can’t easily cut borrowing costs, either. Chatty central banks are a relatively new phenomenon. Investors are also more sensitive to central banks today than in years past. Still, being more careful about what’s said, and how it’s said, could help central banks better balance their priorities.
Zelenskyy on Saturday sharply criticized Russia's monthlong chairmanship of the UN Security Council. "Today, the terrorist state began to chair the UN Security Council." And at the same time, Russia chairs the UN Security Council. "We are dealing with a state that is turning the veto of the United Nations Security Council into the right to die." "And there will be no such reason that will stop the reform of global institutions, in particular, the UN Security Council.
Tesla vehicles parked outside a home with a Tesla Solar Roof on Weems Street in Boca Chica Village, Texas, U.S., on Monday, June 21, 2021. Tesla has only installed 3,000 of its Solar Roof systems in the U.S. since touting the technology seven years ago, according to new research from Wood Mackenzie. That installation rate falls well shy of Tesla's guidance and ambitions for what it previously called its "solar glass" roof tiles. Average weekly Tesla Solar Roof installations reached just 21 in 2022, Wood Mackenzie said. A group of Tesla shareholders eventually sued Tesla and Musk over the deal.

John Holland-Kaye has served in the post for nine years. LONDON—London Heathrow Airport said its longtime chief executive, John Holland-Kaye , would step down this year after helming the hub during one of the most turbulent summers in its history. The rapid recovery in passenger numbers as the Covid-19 pandemic eased resulted in disruption across the aviation industry last year, though Heathrow appeared to suffer more than most. A lack of staff contributed to long lines through security, overwhelmed check-in counters, mounds of lost baggage and persistent flight delays and cancellations.

Pompeo made the revelation as he explores a potential 2024 White House campaign against his ex-boss. According to Pompeo's book, Trump told Meadows that Esper was "not going to make it" for much longer while helming the Defense Department. That July, Trump told Meadows that he wanted his secretary of state to have a "dual hat" and "take on leading the department of defense as an additional duty," per Pompeo.

"This step will allow us to push down longer-term interest rates, without directly affecting supply and demand of the cash Japanese government bond (JGB) market," Kuroda told a news conference. Following its two-day policy meeting, the BOJ kept intact its yield curve control (YCC) targets, set at -0.1% for short-term interest rates and around 0% for the 10-year yield, by a unanimous vote. Reuters Graphics Reuters GraphicsThe central bank also made no change to its guidance that allows the 10-year bond yield to move 50 basis points either side of its 0% target. "By showing its resolve to use market tools more flexibly, the BOJ wanted to signal to markets it won't make big monetary policy changes under Kuroda." Market attention is already shifting toward monetary policy under Kuroda's successor, who will need to steer an orderly exit from decades of ultra-low rates.
NTSB spokeswoman Sarah Sulick told CNN interviews related to the investigation are ongoing, a detail that has not yet been reported elsewhere. Investigators will be able to listen to the radio transmissions, which have already been recorded and preserved. Those recordings would also reveal if the American pilots heard the instructions completely from the air traffic controllers and if so, how they apparently became confused. If the voice records inside the American cockpit are preserved, they may depict a detailed conversation about the aircraft’s on-the-ground movements. In this incident, radio recordings show controllers instructed the American pilots to place a phone call to officials at the tower to address the “possible pilot deviation” from the assigned route.

PUBLIC DISCONTENTAfter a tumultuous year for the world's third-largest economy, Japan's central bank and its leadership face a critical moment. While ruling out the need to ditch the yield cap now, Takata recently said he saw positive developments in wage growth. "The BOJ must start worrying about the possibility of inflation accelerating more than expected," he told Reuters, adding the BOJ may abandon its yield cap as early as next year. Such a reaction was seen in March when the BOJ was forced to pledge unlimited bond buying to defend its yield cap from speculative market attacks. "That's why the BOJ won't provide advance signals and remove the yield cap in a single step."
John J. Ray, chief executive officer of FTX Cryptocurrency Derivatives Exchange, arrives to a House Financial Services Committee hearing investigating the collapse of FTX in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022. Instead, like bankers and lawyers who are working on the bankruptcy proceedings, the new leadership team is professional independent contractors. That means, among other things, that they get paid immediately, before any FTX investors receive recompense for their losses. According to court filings, the new FTX CEO will collect $1,300 hourly plus "reasonable expenses" for his work untangling what U.S. Attorney Damian Williams called "one of the biggest frauds in American history" in a news conference Tuesday. In one bankruptcy case Ray worked on, he billed around 156 hours in a two-month period, netting him $120,582, so his billings for FTX may run higher or lower.

Discovery abruptly axed, then reinstated, its longstanding TV writers' training program. Numerous TV writers told Insider they would not have been able to establish their careers without the TV workshop. The WBTV workshops not only developed emerging talents, but also helped ease their way into paid work in Hollywood. But even with Zaslav examining every asset across the company to find a promised $3 billion in synergies, the WBTV writers' and directors' workshops seemed unlikely targets. "The training is just phenomenal," a third alum of the writers' workshop told Insider.

A Manhattan judge has set an October 24 trial date for Donald Trump's business and his former CFO. Before learning their trial date, Weisselberg and lawyers for the Trump family business first learned a string of bad, though likely expected, news. If convicted of the grand larceny charge, Weisselberg, 74, would have to serve a mandatory minimum of one year in jail; the charge allows for the unlikely maximum sentence of 15 years. Also at the prosecution table was Gary Fishman, who is leading New York Attorney General Letitia James' probe into Trump and the Trump Organization; he is cross-designated as a Manhattan prosecutor. The prosecution of Weisselberg and the Trump Organization is the only indictment to come out of Manhattan.
