One is about the possibility that we’re going to have this super intelligent AI that’s capable of great destruction. casey newtonI think that’s right. But it’s just like — I don’t think — I don’t think about to do these things in the moment like Dan. I don’t think that there’s an ethical issue with doing what he wants to do. And yeah, I just think it’s going into an area that’s going to be uncomfortable for the friend.

Here's what tech executives are saying about the potential dangers of advanced AI tech. In a recent interview with Tucker Carlson, Musk said AI had the potential to destroy civilization. Sam AltmanOpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said he's a "little bit afraid" of AI. "And I think it'd be crazy not to be a little bit afraid, and I empathize with people who are a lot afraid." In an earlier interview with ABC News, Altman said that "people should be happy" that his company was "a little bit scared" of the potential of artificial intelligence.
AI development needs input from social scientists, ethicists, and philosophers, Sundar Pichai said. The Google CEO told CBS that AI systems need to be "aligned to human values, including morality." Social scientists, ethicists, and philosophers need to be involved in the development of AI, Google CEO Sundar Pichai told CBS' "60 Minutes." "This is why I think the development of this needs to include not just engineers, but social scientists, ethicists, philosophers, and so on." Though much of the buzz so far has been based on OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google is also developing Bard, its own AI chatbot.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/File PhotoApril 11 (Reuters) - Investors are finally set to gain access to more than $33 billion of ether this week under a planned revamp of the blockchain. A new software upgrade to the Ethereum blockchain, dubbed Shapella, will let market players redeem their "staked ether" - coins they have deposited and locked up on the network over the past three years in return for interest. About 15% of all ether is staked, totaling $33.73 billion in market value, according to data from Dune Analytics. "It seems unlikely, therefore, that much of the staked ether will be sold," Rangar added. Following the upgrade, staked ether will no longer be locked up on the blockchain, so investors may be more willing to stake coins.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said he used Google Bard to help plan his father's 80th birthday. Pichai said Bard told him he should make a scrapbook for the event. "It's not that it's profound, but it says things and kind of sparks the imagination," Pichai told the Times. Pichai's experience echoes similar stories from early users of Google's competitor, Microsoft's Bing AI chatbot. Pichai told the Times he understands the concerns people have, but remains optimistic about AI technology.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the company's Bard AI chatbot will be upgraded soon. Pichai said Google was careful about introducing Bard, and wanted to get more complex models right rather than focusing on being first, or the perception of "losing" in the ongoing AI race. Criticism that AI is moving too fast or that Google is falling behind creates a feeling of "whiplash" for Pichai, and he said Google is prioritizing safety and responsibility as Bard develops. Integration of Bard into other products like Gmail has begun rolling out to "a limited number of trusted testers," Pichai said. Industries like health care that will be impacted by AI already have privacy regulations, which will help develop new regulations for AI in other industries, according to Pichai.
The popularity of AI chatbots like ChatGPT has people concerned that AI may steal their jobs. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the company that made ChatGPT. Altman says he thinks AI will be the "greatest force for economic empowerment" we've ever seen. "I think AI is going to be the greatest force for economic empowerment and a lot of people getting rich we have ever seen," Altman said in a tweet on Monday. In an interview last month with StrictlyVC's Connie Loizos, Altman was similarly asked for his predictions on the future of AI.
Microsoft's CTO said he uses the new AI-powered Bing search engine to understand his teenage daughter's slang. In a recent interview, he praised the search engine, saying he misses it whenever he doesn't have access. Microsoft unveiled its new AI-powered Bing in collaboration with OpenAI last week. The overhauled search engine will feature similar technology that backs OpenAI's viral chatbot, ChatGPT, though OpenAI has promised Bing will be "more powerful." There's currently a waitlist to gain admittance to the new search engine, so Insider looked up the definitions the old-fashioned way: on Google.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said ChatGPT was a "horrible product" in an interview, citing the AI chatbot's outages. OpenAI reportedly released ChatGPT to the public as a last resort due to internal beta testing issues. Altman conceded that the AI chatbot was "cool" but that it wasn't a "great, well-integrated product." In his interview with "Hard Fork," Altman conceded that ChatGPT's AI technology is "cool, for sure." But no one would say this was like a great, well-integrated product yet... but there is so much value here that people are willing to put up with it," Altman said.
The NYT's Hard Fork podcast recently interviewed two current Twitter employees. Both Twitter employees also used pseudonyms for the interview. In the podcast, Mockingjay described the past few days as an interminable cycle of anxiety. Mockingjay told the hosts that employees at Twitter were falling into one of two camps. "I wouldn't get asked at work to completely revamp Twitter Blue by Friday.
