Fisker CEO Henrik Fisker introduces the all-electric off-road Ocean called the Force E during its inaugural "Product Vision Day" in Huntington Beach, California, on August 3, 2023. U.S. electric vehicle (EV) maker Fisker filed for bankruptcy protection late on Monday, looking to sell its assets and restructure its debt, after succumbing to rapid cash burn to deliver its "Ocean" SUVs in the United States and Europe. "Like other companies in the electric vehicle industry, we have faced various market and macroeconomic headwinds that have impacted our ability to operate efficiently," Fisker said in a statement early on Tuesday. The company's operating unit, Fisker Group Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware, listing estimated assets of $500 million to $1 billion and liabilities of $100 million to $500 million. Fisker made over 10,000 vehicles in 2023, less than a quarter of its forecast, but delivered only about 4,700.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday said it's no secret that the market rally has been driven by a handful of tech stocks, and it's not likely to change anytime soon. Cramer said companies like Nvidia , Apple , Microsoft , Alphabet , Amazon , Oracle and now Broadcom have been integral to the rally. But while tech stocks have been shining, Cramer said other sectors can't quite say the same. For instance, Cramer pointed to the banks, which often serve as a bellwether for the market. It's hard to know where the market would be without the tech sector, he added.

Oil prices defied the announcement of extended supply cuts from the OPEC+ alliance with brisk declines, with analysts and traders faulting certain trading strategies and the demand picture for the downturn. "I would say that what the market is going through currently is going into an oversold, technically oversold market that is pushing the prices down," he noted. The front-month Nymex WTI contract was at $73.28 per barrel, higher by 3 cents per barrel from the Tuesday settlement. While some blame the OPEC+ meeting for the drop, we believe other factors — such as the option market—have played a role," UBS strategist Giovanni Staunovo said in a Tuesday note to clients. CNN —It was a dream come true for millions of Taylor Swift fans, after the superstar released her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” at midnight on Friday. “The strongest reset for the circadian system is bright light,” said Dr. Phyllis Zee, director of the Center for Circadian and Sleep Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. “Research shows that movement can boost circulation and increase alertness, helping you shake off that sleepiness faster,” Daddy Dasgupta said. “It could limit your ability to sleep well that night,” said sleep specialist Kristen Knutson, an associate professor of neurology and preventive medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. CNN —After a disastrous year marked by high costs, accusations of environmental harm and project cancellations in 2023, there’s a sense the US offshore wind industry is on a rebound. But offshore wind is increasingly Trump-proof, according to a top White House climate official, wind CEOs and an industry analyst. “This year will be a significant year for offshore wind development,” BOEM director Elizabeth Klein told CNN in a statement. The US supply chain for offshore wind is still being built; therefore, projects are turning to European manufacturers to get blades, gearboxes, and other components. Now, he said, Northeast governors “just want to make sure their states have energy.”New York has been aggressively pursuing offshore wind projects, rebidding previously canceled projects and accepting those projects at higher prices.

Heightened tensions in the Middle East, including the possibility of Iran attacking Israel, sent stocks back down and oil prices higher. If the choice is between a weak economy with lower rates or a strong economy with higher rates, we'll take the strong economy every time. Low rates may help with valuation multiples, but it's a strong economy that leads to earnings growth and that's what we, as long-term investors care about. Shelter costs are a major sticking point for overall inflation, which makes Tuesday's housing starts and building permits report a key watch item.
