Opinion: Why Biden is lying low ahead of 2024
  + stars: | 2023-04-14 | by ( Julian Zelizer | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
Editor’s Note: Julian Zelizer, a CNN political analyst, is a professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University. But when the ensuing conversation doesn’t go his way, he unleashes on them, declaring, “You are not serious figures. I love you, but you are not serious people.”The line is powerful — and may just capture the way President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are approaching the declared and expected GOP candidates ahead of the 2024 campaign. Among the GOP candidates, former President Donald Trump was the first to announce his campaign five months ago. Biden might be boring and fly under the radar much of the time, but that is the image of normality that helped him win in 2020.

By now, we should be used to HBO’s series pulling the rug out from beneath our expectations. Still, as more than one pundit observed of Logan’s death, this one shocked more than merely surprised. Not me, though I do miss Brian Cox already because few actors anywhere are as adroit at playing dyspeptic sociopaths. It would be at the very least ironic if “Greg the Egg,” the minion’s minion, stumbled into power as if he tripped on a sidewalk. I’ll say no more on this except to suggest that you all try to remember who in the end won that “Game of Thrones.” It’s not inevitable.
CNN —Pedro Pascal and Sarah Paulson are two of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors, often pictured at red carpet events together, but that hasn’t always been the case during their three decades-long friendship. As young actors struggling to navigate the industry, Paulson would help her friend make ends meet. “We would go to see movies all the time in those years, and we would get so lost in them,” Paulson told Esquire. Pedro Pascal hosted SNL in February. “He’s a part of some spectacularly successful things,” Paulson added.
J. Smith-Cameron, 65, is an actress who recently appeared in TV’s “Fleishman Is in Trouble” and in the movie “Vengeance.” She currently stars as Gerri Kellman in HBO’s “Succession.” She spoke with Marc Myers. My grandfather, Richard Sharp Smith, was a prominent architect, but I didn’t know him. He died in 1924, when my father was still a child. He was a big presence in Asheville, in western North Carolina, where he designed many private homes in a blend of Craftsman, Shingle and Tudor Revival styles.
“It was gorgeous, and I was so not expecting it,” said Darion Lowenstein, 41, a video game consultant, who is gay. Though Bill’s role in the game is small, and his mention of being gay brief, it did not go unnoticed by LGBTQ gamers like Bonatsakis. Roughly 10% of gamers are LGBTQ, according to a 2020 survey by Nielsen. And for many of these queer gamers, Durkee said, video games are a lifeline. She said character customization in games such as “The Sims” and “World of Warcraft” can empower queer gamers to express their identity in ways that traditional media cannot.
James Cosmo, 75, is a Scottish actor whose films include “Braveheart,” “The Pyramid Texts” and “The Kindred.” He currently co-stars in Netflix’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” and in HBO’s “His Dark Materials.” He spoke with Marc Myers. My father was a fighting man all his life. The knuckles of his hands were often bloody, but he never harmed anyone in our family. He fought men. Sadly, that’s what he did in those days.
Once considered taboo in film and television, gay entertainers and characters will be hard to miss at the 80th Golden Globe Awards. Some of the evenings most nominated films — including sci-fi dramedy “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and psychological thriller “Tár,” — and TV series that include “The White Lotus” and “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” — star LGBTQ actors or feature fictional queer characters. And to top off the evening, the Golden Globes will honor gay television writer and producer Ryan Murphy, perhaps best known for co-creating “Glee,” “Pose” and the “American Horror Story” franchise, with a lifetime achievement award. While this year’s pool of Golden Globe nominees ups the awards ceremony’s queer factor, many of the most anticipated wins involve seemingly straight actors playing queer characters. The Golden Globes airs on Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock.
Then there’s Eve Hewson, daughter of Bono, who claimed that the Vulture team behind the “nepo baby” piece was “jealous” and called out the editor-in-chief for her own familial privilege. But one self-described “nepo baby” has finally cracked the code of how to defuse these attacks: by owning the title, not shying away from it. shutting out countless talented newcomers who might have more talent than a “nepo baby” but lack a famous name or face and thus are denied opportunities — would be a major mistake. More “nepo babies” could take a page out of Williams’ book and recognize this duality. Hollywood isn’t an equal playing field, and any “nepo baby” who pretends like it is is not only ignoring reality, but doing a disservice to their own reputation.
In TV, the top 10 list ranges from the indefinable second season of “The White Lotus” to laugh-out-loud comedies and smoldering fantasy shows. “Catch the Fair One” is available on Hulu and various video-on-demand platforms. “Paris, 13th District” is available on Amazon Prime Video and various video-on-demand platforms. “Peter Von Kant” is available on various video-on-demand platforms. “Tár” is available on various video-on-demand platforms.
CNN —After starting out well, “Kindred” gets lost in a maze of its own making, adapting Octavia E. Butler’s time-traveling novel into an eight-part Hulu series that spends far too much time spinning its wheels. The series does begin promisingly enough, as Dana (Mallori Johnson) moves into a new house in Los Angeles and begins to experience a series of eerie visions. Brace yourself, in other words, for a lengthier commitment to glean greater insight into how all of this works. “Kindred” premieres December 13 on Hulu.

CNN —Around 10 of the more than two dozen women who accused Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual misconduct were expected to attend his game in Houston on Sunday, according to their attorney. I was proud of them for that,” Tony Buzbee, the lawyer representing the accusers attending the game, told CNN in a statement. Makes me proud they want to stand up and be counted rather than quietly go away.”The NFL and the Cleveland Browns did not respond to CNN’s request for comment regarding the accusers’ attendance. We’re a huge football town, folks here have been lifelong fans of the Cleveland Browns,” Greene said. We believe that Deshaun Watson deserves a second chance.”The team’s “refusal to prioritize protecting women sends a disgusting message” to survivors of sexual assault, Nunes said.

Kit Connor's sexuality is none of your business

CNN —The pressure for 18-year-old actor Kit Connor to come out had been building on social media for months. It is one of the first to center LGBTQ characters — both Nick and Charlie, as well as others in the main cast — geared towards a teen and young adult audience. Rob Youngson/NetflixThe truth about Nelson’s character, as well as Connor’s real-life identity, may be much more nuanced. That includes a pair of original ideas from del Toro himself, “Lot 36” and “The Murmuring,” as well as two by horror author H.P. Del Toro has also handpicked the various directors, reflecting an eclectic range of projects and styles. Rupert Grint in "Dreams In The Witch House," an episode of "Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet Of Curiosities." Yet even with those disclaimers, “Cabinet of Curiosities” feels stocked with stories lacking in heft – throwing open its doors with del Toro’s buoyant enthusiasm, and too often finding its shelves looking a little bare. “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities” premieres October 25-28 on Netflix.
CNN —Amanda Seales did not play when it came to the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. “I jumped at the opportunity to say, ‘All right, let’s get back outside and let’s be Black outside,’” Seales said. “Because us having community is its own therapy that we need to have.”Best known for her role as Tiffany DuBois on HBO’s “Insecure,” Seales’s debut standup comedy special, “I Be Knowin,” was released in 2019. “That’s something that I’m really trying to impart to people on stage through comedy and through humor,” she said. “I’m talking about dating, I’m talking about relationships, I’m talking about my mother, I’m talking about my childhood, ” Seales said.
F. Murray Abraham, 82, is an actor best known for his Oscar-winning performance as Antonio Salieri in “Amadeus.” He co-starred in “Scarface” and “Inside Llewyn Davis,” and on Showtime’s “Homeland.” He co-stars in season 2 of HBO’s “The White Lotus,” starting Oct. 30. He spoke with Marc Myers. In my early teens in El Paso, Texas, I was in a gang called the Rogues. We had knives and we did stupid things, but we weren’t as dangerous as other gangs in the area. We had fights, but everybody walked away.
Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers about “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” season finale. CNN —“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has ended its first season, with plans for several more to come. Yet the real battle for Amazon could be convincing everyone that its very expensive – and mostly underwhelming – gamble on J.R.R. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was personally involved in acquiring rights from the Tolkien estate way back in 2017, reflecting the company’s high-stakes bet. It’s become popular to refer to certain large corporations as being “Too big to fail,” and in TV terms, “Rings of Power” is about as big as they come.
Lawyers for the two men filed a lawsuit Tuesday in federal court in Atlanta alleging that they were racially profiled and illegally stopped by Clayton County police at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The Clayton County Police Department did not immediately respond Tuesday to an email seeking comment. Clayton County police said at the time that it was “consensual.”“Mr. The lawsuit names Clayton County and the police chief, as well as four police officers and a district attorney’s office investigator. The comedians seek a jury trial and ask that the Clayton County police jet bridge interdiction program be declared unconstitutional.
CNN —Flexing different muscles, Marvel’s “Werewolf by Night” is a nifty Halloween-timed special designed as a black-and-white homage to the Universal monster movies of the 1930s and ’40s. A brisk 50-ish minutes, the program assumes a fair amount of comic-book knowledge and hits the ground running, with an assembly of monster hunters brought together to compete for the Bloodstone, a supernatural artifact. He’s pursuing a very different agenda – and thanks to Man-Thing, another Marvel character from the early 1970s, not the only monster unleashed. Seen in that light, in fact, “Werewolf by Night” could be the dawn of an intriguing new day. “Werewolf by Night” premieres October 7 on Disney+.
Murdoch family, 1987: Lachlan, James, Anna and Rupert. The second season of HBO’s “Succession,” whose fictional media family, the Roys, bears a striking resemblance to the Murdochs, airs this summer. ‘A press dictatorship’To understand how the Murdoch empire works, it is essential to return to its origins. The bigger Murdoch’s empire became, the more power he had to clear away obstacles to further its expansion. Like his father, Lachlan considered the idea of meddling with such an important profit driver a form of madness.
