The comedian who let loose a series of racist jokes, some about Puerto Rico, at former President Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday night workshopped the material the night before at a local comedy club. I love Puerto Rico and vacation there." There, Puerto Rican voters stand to be a deciding electorate. More than half of the nearly 580,000 eligible Latino voters in Pennsylvania are of Puerto Rican descent. WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is seizing on racist comments made by an ally of Donald Trump this weekend about Puerto Ricans to launch a new digital ad targeting Latino voters that argues they “deserve better” than what the former president has to offer. Beyond Pennsylvania, there are sizable Puerto Rican populations in North Carolina, Wisconsin and Michigan as well, where the race could be determined by mere margins. The Trump campaign attempted to distance itself from the remarks and some high-profile Republicans quickly rebuked them. Before Trump's event, Harris had rolled out her economic proposals for the Puerto Rican community during stops in Philadelphia, including at one Puerto Rican restaurant. The Harris campaign posted a video summarizing the policy, which was later shared on Instagram by Puerto Rican superstars like Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin and Luis Fonzi.

HALCHITA, Utah — After a five-year wait, Lorraine Black and Ricky Gillis heard the rumblings of an electrical crew reach their home on the sprawling Navajo Nation. In five days’ time, their home would be connected to the power grid, replacing their reliance on a few solar panels and propane lanterns. Some rely on solar panels or generators, which can be patchy, and others have no electricity whatsoever. Gillis and Black filed an application to connect their home back in 2019. But when the coronavirus pandemic started ravaging the tribe and everything besides essential services was shut down on the reservation, it further stalled the process.

A new law proposed by Germany will limit which solar producers are reimbursed when energy prices fall. The outlet cited fresh plans to restrict which producers will receive subsidies when energy falls below a fixed price. The government has previously estimated that German renewable subsidies would reach $21.6 billion this year. That's as the country's solar buildout has brought so much renewable energy online that wholesale power prices have frequently fallen below zero. AdvertisementMeanwhile, analysts have noted this year that supplementary investments in battery technology and the electric grid are needed if renewable energy is to escape negative pricing.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday told investors that resources like fossil fuels will remain important and enable technological innovations, even as investments in renewable energy continue to grow. While the tech megacaps are investing heavily in nuclear energy, Cramer suggested that power won't play a huge role in the data center for at least a decade. He also reviewed GE Vernova 's recent quarter, saying the company's strength came from electrification and natural gas, not wind or nuclear power. But Cramer also stressed that the conversation around fossil fuels extends beyond the automotive industry. "The truth is, fossil fuels are essential for a lot more than vehicles, like it or not."

CNN —Millions of Cubans remained without power for a third day in a row Sunday after fresh attempts to restore electricity failed overnightThe Cuban Electrical Union said about 16% of the country had had power restored when the aging energy grid again overloaded late Saturday. Cuba’s first island-wide blackout happened on Friday, when one of the country’s major power plants failed, according to the energy ministry. Hours after officials said power was being slowly restored, the country suffered a second nationwide blackout on Saturday morning. The country’s health minister, José Angel Portal Miranda, said Friday on X that the country’s health facilities were running on generators and that health workers continued to provide vital services. Reuters reporters witnessed two small protests overnight into Sunday, while videos of protests elsewhere in the capital have also surfaced.

Cuba restored a trickle of power to its grid by mid-evening on Friday, officials said, hours after the island plunged into a countrywide blackout following the collapse of one of its major power plants. The Communist-run government closed schools and non-essential industry early on Friday and sent most state workers home in a last-ditch effort to keep the lights on after weeks of severe power shortages. But shortly before midday, the Antonio Guiteras power plant, the country’s largest and most efficient, went offline, prompting a total grid failure and suddenly leaving the entire island without power. For many Cubans, far removed from politics and accustomed to regular power outages, the nationwide blackout was nothing more than a normal Friday night. Russia and Mexico, which in the past have sent fuel to Cuba, have also greatly reduced shipments.

CNN —Cuba suffered a second nationwide blackout Saturday morning, hours after officials said power was being slowly restored. “At 6:15 am a new total outage occurred of the national electroenergetic system,” a post on the Cuba Electrical Union’s official Telegram channel said. Millions of people have been left without power over the last several days as the aging Cuban electrical grid repeatedly collapsed. Cuban officials have blamed a confluence of events from increased US economic sanctions to disruptions caused by recent hurricanes and the impoverished state of the island’s infrastructure. HAVANA — The electricity went out Friday in Cuba, affecting the entire island's population of 10 million after one of its main power plants failed, according to Cuba’s energy ministry. But it wasn’t enough, and by 11 a.m. the largest power plant went offline, causing a grid failure. In some provinces outside the capital, Havana, many people have been facing power outages that last up to 12 hours at a time. Cuba’s ally and main oil supplier, Venezuela, has decreased the amount of shipments it sends to the island. Oil shipments from other countries, like Russia and Mexico, have also been greatly diminished.

Havana CNN —Cuba’s electrical grid shut down on Friday, putting the country into a blackout after the failure of one of the island’s major power plants, according to its energy ministry. In a statement on X, the ministry said “the failure” of the Antonio Guiteras Power Plant caused “the total disconnection of the National Electrical System” from 11 a.m. This week, Cuba’s increasingly energy-strapped government called for draconian measures to save power, including telling many workers to stay home. Millions of people on the communist-run island have been left without power over the last several days as the aging Cuban electrical grid repeatedly collapsed. The Cuban Electric Union has also reported that 37 power generation plants are out of service due to lack of fuel.
