CNN —A man was killed and nine other people were injured in a shooting Saturday near Tennessee State University as the Nashville school celebrated homecoming – and investigators believe at least one of the injured participated in the gunfire, officials said. The shooting happened around 5 p.m. along a street where TSU’s homecoming parade had taken place that morning, Nashville police and fire officials said at a news conference Saturday evening. At least three of the injured were children who had non-critical injuries, Nashville police said on X. Two boys have been arrested and charged in a street attack on David A. Paterson, a former governor of New York, and his stepson, the police said. One boy, who is 12, was charged with second-degree gang assault, and the other, a 13-year-old, was charged with third-degree gang assault, the police said on Saturday night. Both boys, accompanied by their parents, turned themselves in to the police, according to Sean Darcy, a spokesman for Mr. Paterson. A third person, also a minor, went to the police but was not charged in the Friday night attack in Manhattan, according to an internal police report. Mr. Paterson, 70, said at a news conference on Saturday that he was punched in the shoulder and several times in the face, while his stepson Anthony Sliwa, 20, was knocked to the ground and needed stitches to his lower lip.

More people were severely injured in the attack in the early hours of Thursday at Pont-Sonde, in the agricultural region of Artibonite in western Haiti. “For now, reinforcements are at the location to contain the situation and security forces are in control,” the spokesperson said. Many victims were shot in the head as gang members went house to house, Horace said. The U.N. estimated at the end of September that 3,661 people had been killed in the gang violence since January.

An Illinois woman manipulated her cheating boyfriend to believe he was being threatened by violent drug runners, leading him to slaughter a family of four before killing that tech-savvy girlfriend and himself, police said Thursday. CNN —At least 70 people, including three infants, were killed in a gang attack in the central Haiti town of Pont Sondé, the United Nations Human Rights Office said in a statement on Friday. Members of the “Gran Grif” gang used automatic rifles to kill at least 70 people on Thursday, including 10 women and three infants, according to the UN. The attack occurred in Haiti’s Artibonite department, a crucial agricultural center about 50 miles north of Port-au-Prince, where gang violence has continued to spread, according to the UN. At least 16 people were seriously injured in the attack, including two gang members hit during an exchange of fire with Haitian police, the UN said. “Despite an extremely difficult security context, the victims of this attack are being cared for by local institutions,” the ministry said.

Nearly 70 people who belong to or are associated with a white supremacist gang in the San Fernando Valley were indicted on federal charges, authorities announced Wednesday, saying the multi-agency operation was Los Angeles’ largest ever takedown of an extremist group. The San Fernando Valley gang is also affiliated with the Aryan Brotherhood and Mexican Mafia prison gang, authorities claimed. The alleged gang members have committed acts of violence against minorities cross the state, according to an FBI official. Those arrested Wednesday were expected to make initial appearances in federal court and to be held in jail with no bail. The federal racketeering charges can lead to lengthy prison terms up to life in prison for those convicted.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (AP) — The Dominican Republic announced Wednesday that it would start massive deportations of Haitians living illegally in the country, expelling up to 10,000 of them a week. Government spokesman Homero Figueroa told reporters that the government took the decision after noticing an “excess” of Haitian migrants in the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti. Last year, the Dominican Republic deported more than 174,000 people it says are Haitians, and in the first half of the year, it has expelled at least 67,000 more. Activists have long criticized the administration of President Luis Abinader for what they say are ongoing human rights violations of Haitians and those of Haitian descent born in the Dominican Republic.
