Read moreROME, July 17 (Reuters) - Teenage sisters Matilde and Angelica Aureli, who have albinism, face unique challenges in Italy's sweltering temperatures, and must take extra care to protect their fair complexions and delicate eyesight. Albinism is a genetic condition characterised by a lack of the protective pigment melanin in the hair, skin and eyes. Beatrice Gueli, the mother of the Aureli sisters, said her daughters need to have regular skin checks. Italian authorities have issued red alerts for 16 cities, including Rome, with a new heatwave set to begin on July 15. According to the United Nations, 1 in 5,000 people in Sub-Saharan Africa and 1 in 20,000 people in Europe and North America have albinism.

‘Julie & Julia’ (July 31)Julia Child was an easy figure to impersonate but perhaps not so simple to inhabit. The film focuses on Gardner’s period of homelessness and the sacrifices he made while completing an unpaid internship at a prestigious firm. It’s a formulaic piece of work but a nevertheless affecting one. ‘Stepmom’ (July 31)The “Home Alone” director Chris Columbus continued the softening of his touch that began with “Mrs. Julia Roberts plays the title character, a fashion photographer who is dating, and then marries, a much older, divorced father (Ed Harris).

As the world transitions to a more cashless society, Mastercard's value has continued to soar. While Visa outpaces Mastercard in terms of cards in circulation, net revenue and market share based on purchase transactions, Mastercard's stock has outperformed Visa's over the past 5 years. "Visa did not use to own Visa Europe. "Back in 2016, 2017, Visa was able to buy Visa Europe, and they have gone through a huge effort to modernize Visa's operations in Europe. "So, it's kind of a double benefit to revenue when you have more market share in Europe in particular."
Alongside classic beach towns like Bodrum and Alaçatı, two of the coast’s loveliest spots are the little-known seaside town of Ayvalık and the nearby island of Cunda. Near the Taksiyarhis Memorial Museum, in a beautifully renovated historic house with large arched windows, is Moyy Atölye. For a truly Aegean dining experience inside an olive grove, Karina Ayvalık is worth the 10-minute drive south to the village of Küçükköy. “I can breathe in the Aegean air and feel history as I walk through the old streets with their historic houses. Getting lost on Cunda leads to discoveries – like the Cunda Taksiyarhis Rahmi M. Koç Museum inside a renovated Greek Orthodox church with a collection of antique cars, motorcycles and toys.
What's more, there appears to be growing demand for the luxury end of the spectrum. Portugal registered more than 2.8 million of foreign visitors from January to March, the best first quarter on record, according to official data. Airlines such as Lufthansa, easyJet and Ryanair have confirmed robust summer bookings while Ryanair, in anticipation of strong demand, has just ordered 150 new 737 Max-10s and optioned another 150. Italian travel and tourism company Alpitour forecasts turnover 30% higher this year. "We already see a very strong demand to book Christmas holidays in 2023.
The birth rate in Italy has been declining steadily since the economic crisis in 2008, for reasons demographers agree is rooted in economic insecurity. In France, the birth rate is higher at 1.8 children per woman, according to figures for 2022 from its national statistics agency. The Catholic Church, which is a predominant political force, and the right-wing government under Meloni have both lamented the low birth rate, but have put up roadblocks to ways to remedy the situation. De Luca blames the government for not doing enough for the younger generation, in part because decades of low birth rates have made the youth a minority. Testa fears that the low birth rate is contagious.
By the time she started work on “The Postcard,” Berest had plenty of experience with biography. Together with an associate, she founded Porte-Plume, a niche press that specializes in ghostwritten family biographies and corporate books. “I’d always been attracted to the past, and I loved this job,” Berest said. Myriam, Berest’s grandmother, had married their son, Vincente, and survived the war with help from the Picabia clan. “It means that even people who were murdered pass things on to their children, to their grandchildren.”
While most companies struggled during the pandemic, digital-payment companies including PayPal thrived as consumers were forced to depend more on online transactions. But as pandemic restrictions began to ease, PayPal's stock growth started to fall off. And while PayPal's total payment volume has seen continuous gains, its stock growth has slowed, with rising competition in the digital-payment space being a major contributing factor. "There's a positive and a negative to the fact that PayPal is so focused on e-commerce," said Brett Horn, an analyst at Morningstar. Watch the video to find out more about how Paypal makes its money and why it has been struggling in recent years.
Kevin, another fan who declined to give his surname, said of the expected Scudetto party: "It will be chaos, mayhem. Authorities also banned car and scooter traffic from the city centre in the hope of minimising risk to public order. "I've been waiting for the Napoli Scudetto since I was small," said a teenage girl out with two friends, her cheeks painted Napoli blue. "It's a victory for the entire city, it's wonderful," she added, declining to give her name. In Udine, there were post-match scuffles as Napoli fans ran onto the stadium pitch to celebrate with players, but were met by hostile home supporters armed with belts and batons, the ANSA news agency said.
Companies Diamondback Energy Inc FollowMay 1 (Reuters) - Shale producer Diamondback Energy Inc (FANG.O) reported first-quarter profit below Wall Street estimates on Monday, hurt by lower prices of crude, sending its shares down 2%. Global crude prices averaged $82 a barrel in the January-March quarter, down nearly 16% from a year earlier as concerns about global economic outlook weighed on prices. The Midland, Texas-based firm said total average unhedged realized prices were $49.72 per barrel of oil equivalent in the reported quarter, 29% lower from a year earlier. Diamondback also said there were signs that inflation, which plagued the industry in recent quarters, is showing signs of abating. Stice added that raw materials and service costs are declining and he expects his company's completion costs to be lower.

April 22 (Reuters) - Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku will play in the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Juventus on Wednesday after his one-match ban was overturned on Saturday by the president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) as a measure to fight racism. However, FIGC President Gabriele Gravina overturned the suspension after evaluating the report of the Federal Prosecutor's Office, the federation said. "The measure reiterates how the fight against all forms of racism constitutes one of the founding principles of the sporting system," it said. Lukaku was happy with the decision, saying the president had shown great sensitivity to the situation. "This has shown that the desire is there to fight racism."
The fate of some of Africa’s most important strategic resources is hanging in the balance as Sudan’s top two generals vie for supremacy, from the waters of the Nile and access to crucial shipping lanes to some of the continent’s largest gold mines. These riches have long caught the eye of outside powers, including Russia, Egypt and the petrostates of the Gulf. Now, some are trying to influence the outcome of the conflict, by offering weapons and other military support to the rival factions, moves that could drag out a lethal confrontation between Sudan’s military and a state-sponsored militia in which hundreds of people have already been killed.
Photo: El Tayeb Siddig/ReutersA rivalry between Sudan’s top two generals erupted into warfare on April 15, pitting the East African country’s military against a state-sponsored militia called the Rapid Support Forces. The military is using jet fighters to strike RSF positions, many in densely populated areas, while both factions are engaging in street battles using guns and artillery fire. Tens of thousands of Sudanese have fled their homes, while millions are trapped with diminishing supplies of food and water. Why is there fighting in Sudan? Two years later, they toppled a civilian transitional government that was meant to lead the country toward democratic elections.
Top producers have built a war chest to fund acquisitions after reaping windfall profit in 2022 from skyrocketing oil prices following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. At least three analysts have identified Diamondback Energy Inc (FANG.O), Matador Resources Inc (MTDR.N) and Permian Resources Corp (PR.N) as possible takeout targets. The shale patch, which lies between Texas and New Mexico, has the necessary infrastructure and is known for high productivity and large undeveloped reserves. But a surge in oil prices last year helped turn the tide. Last week, ConocoPhillips (COP.N) CEO Ryan Lance said he was expecting more shale deals, adding that "consolidation needs to happen" among Permian Basin energy producers.
Jet fighters and military helicopters roared in the skies above Sudan’s capital and residents sheltered at home from gunfire and explosions, as a lethal power battle between the country’s top generals dragged into a third day Monday. The Committee of Sudanese Doctors, a medical union, said its members had counted at least 97 civilians killed and nearly 1,000 people injured across Sudan since Saturday, when tensions that had been building for weeks between Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the country’s de facto head of state, and his deputy, Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo , erupted into warfare.

Smoke rises during clashes Saturday between the Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the army in Omdurman, Sudan. Heavy fighting broke out in Sudan’s capital between the national army and a powerful militia—a dangerous escalation of tensions between the country’s top two generals, who worked together to oust the longtime dictator, Omar al-Bashir , in 2019. In competing statements, the army, commanded by Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the leader of Sudan’s military junta, and the Rapid Support Forces, a state-sponsored militia led by Gen. Burhan’s deputy, Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo , blamed each other for starting the conflict.
Heavy fighting in Sudan between rival factions of the armed forces raged for a second day Sunday, with local doctors reporting that at least 56 civilians had been killed in a lethal power battle between the country’s two top generals. In the capital Khartoum and other cities, residents sought shelter in their homes as Sudan’s military and the Rapid Support Forces, a state-sponsored militia, exchanged gun- and artillery fire, with frequent explosions ringing out across the city.

Pioneer Natural jumps on report of buyout talks with Exxon
  + stars: | 2023-04-10 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
April 10 (Reuters) - Pioneer Natural Resources Co's (PXD.N) shares rose as much as 8.5% on Monday following a report that Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N) held preliminary talks with the U.S. shale oil producer about a possible acquisition. Shares of Pioneer were up 6.5% at $221.74, while Exxon Mobil inched up 0.2% to $115.25. Pioneer is the third-largest oil producer after Chevron Corp (CVX.N) and ConocoPhillips (COP.N) in the Permian basin, the biggest in the United States. Analysts believe Pioneer and other exploration and production companies could be acquired in the coming quarters given oil giants such as Exxon are looking to boost inventory. "Would not be surprised to see Exxon step up for PXD's scale and inventory depth in the Midland Basin, but the price tag will ultimately be based on the oil prices underwritten by Exxon.
