CNN —Elton John is not holding his tongue when it comes to legalized marijuana. And when you’re stoned—and I’ve been stoned—you don’t think normally.”“Legalizing marijuana in America and Canada is one of the greatest mistakes of all time.”John comes at it from the perspective of being sober for many years. One artist he regrets he couldn’t help was the late George Michael, who struggled with substance abuse before dying with heart and liver disease in 2016. “It’s tough to tell someone that they’re being an a**hole, and it’s tough to hear,” John said of attempting to assist Michael with sobriety. “Eventually I made the choice to admit that I’m being an a**hole.”John’s longtime writing partner, Bernie Taupin, said that when John was hooked on drugs, “I was terrified for him.

CNN —The holidays can be fun and exciting, but you know they can also be cause for stress and anxiety. CNN: Why does it seem like so many people are feeling stressed and fatigued before the holidays? Holidays are a time when people see family members with whom they may have had disagreements or even past trauma. People with depression and who have experienced the loss of a loved one may feel the loss more acutely over the holidays. Referring to this list also can help to make us excited — rather than tired — for the holidays.

JetBlue Airways plans to add domestic first-class seats in 2026 on airplanes that don’t have its top-tier Mint class, the latest initiative to win over higher-paying customers and get back to profitability. All of JetBlue’s Airbus aircraft without Mint, the airline’s lie-flat seats, will have two or three rows of domestic first-class seats, Marty St. George, JetBlue’s president, said in a note to employees. “Since launching Mint over a decade ago, we’ve explored the idea of expanding a version of it across the fleet, often playfully calling it ‘mini-Mint’ or ‘junior Mint,’” St. George said. Let’s keep our competitors guessing,” St. George wrote. Majorities overall express at least some confidence in Trump across seven different issue areas and presidential actions tested in the poll. On other measures with data from 2016, confidence in Trump is largely about the same. Independents’ confidence has also faded, with only 18% expressing a lot of confidence in Trump on appointments, down from 26% in 2016. Independents split 50-50 on Trump’s handling of the transition now, in 2016, they divided 44% approve to 43% disapprove, with 13% unsure. Most Americans (54%), say they disapprove of that decision, while 45% say they approve.

The fight between the two is garnering attention on X, where Applebee’s implied that its deal is better than Chili’s offering because it’s $1 cheaper. The case for Donald Trump’s tariffs
  + stars: | 2024-12-10 | by ( Matt Egan | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +9 min
Moore, who used to unabashedly favor free trade, said Trump convinced him that tariffs can be used as a negotiating tool. Trump’s recent threat to impose a 25% tariff on all imports from Canada got the immediate attention of Ottawa. It’s possible that Trump 2.0 uses tariffs, or at least the threat that he’ll impose tariffs, to get Mexico, Canada, China or other countries to address legitimate issues such as drug trafficking. Even Moore conceded that using tariffs to threaten BRICS nations is a “very, very flawed strategy” by Trump. During Trump’s first term, everything from US autos and soybeans to whiskey were targeted with retaliatory tariffs.

For Trump, this economy looks like a mirror image of the one he inherited in 2017. The soon-to-be Trump economy is facing down a trio of weak spots that could start to rear their heads pretty soon after Inauguration Day. Yes, the unemployment rate sits at just 4.1%, only a bit higher than its multidecade low. A variety of measures, however, suggest that the low headline unemployment rate overstates the degree of strength in the jobs market. In both cases, the unemployment rate was quite a bit higher, suggesting that the unemployment rate likely overstates the degree of health in the labor market.
