Wasteful Everton rue missed chances in Sheffield United draw
  + stars: | 2023-09-02 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
For the third time this season Everton created more than enough chances to take all three points, but just like against Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers, they were not clinical enough in the opposition box. "The chance count has been getting better game by game and was decent again today. We got into some really good areas, and we keep looking a threat, but you have to score," Dyche said. "It is just the basics sometimes which are tripping us up, because I felt a lot of the performance was right again. "I feel like it is one that got away, we had enough in the game to win."

Haaland, who scored four league hat-tricks in a record-shattering first season with City, is already in the groove and his triple against Fulham took his season's goal tally to six. Good start to the season," Haaland said. With manager Pep Guardiola absent following back surgery City took a while to get going against Fulham. Haaland set up the opener for Alvarez but Fulham levelled soon after through Ream who was left unmarked. Mohamed al-Fayed, the Egyptian business tycoon whose empire of trophy properties and influence in Europe and the Middle East was overshadowed by the 1997 Paris car crash that killed his eldest son, Dodi, and Diana, the Princess of Wales, died on Wednesday. His death was confirmed on Friday in a statement by the Fulham Football Club in Britain, of which Mr. Fayed was a former owner. Forbes estimated his net worth at $2 billion this year, ranking his wealth as 1,516th in the world. In a sense, Mr. Fayed was a citizen of the world. Mohamed Al-Fayed dead at 94

Al-Fayed for decades insisted the pair were murdered, despite inquiries finding otherwise, and was scornful towards the British royal family in his later life. After 1997, when a car crash claimed the lives of his son and Diana, Al-Fayed would frequently sling insults at the British royal family and became persona non grata among parts of the country’s elite. Al-Fayed was questioned by police in 2008 in relation to a sex assault allegation that he denied, a Harrods spokesperson said at the time. He eventually sold the store to the Qatari royal family in 2010, for a reported $2.25 billion. Al-Fayed had six children, including Dodi and the environmentalist entrepreneur Omar Fayed.

MANCHESTER, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Manchester City will get a boost with the return of Phil Foden and Manuel Akanji for their home game against Fulham on Saturday, but assistant manager Juanma Lillo was keeping his cards close to his chest over Friday's transfer deadline activity. Foden was on the bench with an illness, but played the final few minutes, and assisted Rodri's winning goal. "When a player wants to go, it is very difficult to go against that. "We have to be proud and satisfied at Manchester City that we have done this. "I speak very regularly with him, not just in footballing terms but professional terms," Lillo said.

No new players expected at Arsenal on deadline day, says Arteta

Sept 1 (Reuters) - Arsenal have signed Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice in the transfer window, and with three players having left the club this week, manager Mikel Arteta doesn't expect any new arrivals. Folarin Balogun, Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares have all moved on from Arsenal in recent days, and even with Timber out injured, their incoming business would appear to be done. "I don't expect anybody to come in," Arteta told reporters on Friday. "We've done quite a lot and we had a lot of uncertainty with a lot of players so we have to be very cautious. Arsenal drew 2-2 with Fulham last weekend, but the manager is pleased with their performances so far this season.

But anticipation is building for the visit of West Ham, who will become the first top-flight team to play a league match at Kenilworth Road since Aston Villa 31 years ago. The volume created by the Hatters fans crammed in on Friday will shake the 118-year-old stadium to its foundations. Forward Cauley Woodrow, who scored in the League Cup win at Kenilworth Road against Gillingham this week, said Luton needed to turn their home into an intimidating 'fortress'. Arsenal's priority will be avoiding any repeat of the early goals they have conceded on a regular basis at home of late. Andreas Pereira's strike for Fulham after 57 seconds last weekend meant the Gunners became the first Premier League team to concede a first-minute goal three times in a calendar year.

Arsenal held to 2-2 draw by 10-man Fulham

LONDON, Aug 26 (Reuters) - Arsenal were held to a 2-2 home draw by 10-man Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday, denying Mikel Arteta's side provisional top spot in the table. But Arsenal won a penalty for a foul on Fabio Vieira after the hour-mark and Saka redeemed himself with a confident spot kick in the pouring rain. Arsenal made it 2-1 two minutes later when Vieira whipped in a cross for Eddie Nketiah to score. Fulham were reduced to 10 men when Calvin Bassey received a second booking for a cynical foul on Nketiah to prevent a counter-attack, but they equalised in the 87th minute when Joao Palhinha swept home from a corner to rescue a point. Villa opened the scoring through McGinn, who turned in Bailey's cutback in the 18th minute to put the hosts ahead at Villa Park. The Merseyside club lost another key attacker to injury as Alex Iwobi was taken off with what looked like a hamstring issue, before Bailey scored Villa's third. Here's what gas station owners need to know about the EV charging trend and their future. By contrast, gas stations along major highways between highly traveled destinations can be ideal for electric charging hubs. While there can be a first-mover advantage for gas stations, some owners, like Blake Smith, founder of SQRL Holdings, a gas station and convenience store operator, are taking it slow. His company operates more than 150 convenience store gas station locations and offers electric charging in select locations in Florida. "I would never recoup my investment," he said, adding that a move to all electric charging could be decades away.

LONDON, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Newcastle United face the first big test of their Premier League title aspirations on Saturday but the trip to champions Manchester City could be coming at the right time for the table-topping Magpies. "Thank you so much to the Premier League for letting us play on Saturday, and not on Sunday and Monday," Guardiola said sarcastically of the 72-hour turnaround from Wednesday's game. Newcastle have yet to win a Premier League match at The Etihad but the arrival of Italy's Sandro Tonali has boosted an already strong midfield featuring Brazil internationals Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. Guimaraes explained on a Brazilian podcast last month how much he has hated playing City in the past, so good were their players. He will now continue his rehabilitation from a minor hip injury before being available for Sean Dyche's squad," Everton said in a statement. The left winger becomes Everton's fourth signing of the close season following the arrival of forward Arnaut Danjuma, defender Ashley Young and striker Youssef Chermiti. However, such is the nature of the Premier League that City will certainly not have everything their own way. Juergen Klopp's side's failure to qualify for the Champions League would have stung, especially with Manchester United finishing eight points above them. Newcastle United, who finished fourth last term, will be determined to prove it was no flash in the pan, although they will need to juggle the demands of battling for a top-four finish with the Champions League this time. The additions of winger Harvey Barnes from Leicester City and Sandro Tonali from Milan will certainly help. The Merseyside club's 69-year stay in the top flight was in peril at halftime as they were drawing 0-0 and 2016 champions Leicester were ahead against West Ham United. That combination of results meant Everton were in the relegation zone but Abdoulaye Doucoure's stunning 57th minute right-foot strike from outside the area earned Everton the victory they required. The final whistle prompted a pitch invasion with smoke from blue flares drifting across the old stadium that will host top-flight football again after another Everton escape. Everton ended in 17th place on 36 points after 38 games, with Leicester in 18th on 34 and Leeds on 31. EVERTON RELIEFThe celebrations at Everton were more of relief than pride as the famous old club once again found itself battling not for silverware but to avoid relegation.
