CNN —North Korean troops deployed to Russia’s Kursk region have fought Kyiv’s forces on the battlefield, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday, adding that the clashes resulted in fatalities. Zelensky said 11,000 North Korean soldiers are in the region, where Ukraine’s three-month military incursion into Russian territory has stalled. The New York Times reported earlier this week that a number of North Korean troops had been killed in a limited engagement with Russian and Ukrainian forces, citing senior US and Ukrainian officials. US officials had warned that around 10,000 North Korean troops are in the Kursk region and would be expected to enter combat against Ukraine. But Zelensky fears a greater role for North Korean troops if its allies fail to exert more pressure on Putin.

China reviews plan to increase local government debt

BEIJING — A closely watched meeting of China's parliament standing committee on Monday reviewed a proposal to raise the local government debt limit, according to state media. New debt would go toward replacing hidden debt, the report said, noting that Finance Minister Lan Fo'an spoke at the meeting on the plan. Lan indicated at a press conference last month that an increase in the local debt limit was in the works. Local authorities in China have historically been responsible for much of public services spending, but have struggled financially as revenue from land sales to developers has dropped. China has about 50 trillion yuan to 60 trillion yuan (about $7 trillion to $8.45 trillion) in outstanding hidden debt, according to Ting Lu, chief China economist at Nomura.

Regardless of who wins Tuesday’s election, a key fixture of America’s political landscape for nearly a decade is set to disappear: the Trump rally. “It’s coming to an end,” Trump said in a phone interview with NBC News on Sunday. For his millions of supporters, Trump rallies have been a gathering place with thousands of other like-minded Americans. Torabi is best known for his popular Twitter account, where his clips of Trump rallies frequently go viral. “So tomorrow I’m doing three rallies and on Monday I’m going to do four rallies in one day,” Trump said.

Trump referenced that rally during his speech in Raleigh on Monday, estimating the crowd inside to be 28,000. The crowd for Trump's speech was estimated to be around 53,000, according to the House committee investigating the riot. Harris's campaign said that around 75,000 people attended her speech last week at the same site as Trump's Jan. 6 speech. When she was interrupted by pro-Trump protesters at a rally in Wisconsin last month, she told them they should "go to the smaller rally down the street." The smaller crowd sizes with less enthusiastic participants so close to Election Day have surprised some Republicans, but it's unclear what the cause — and the significance — is, and if it's evidence of less momentum for his campaign.

Online shopping, which the US Census Bureau estimates accounts for roughly 16% of all retail sales, theoretically makes it easier to find exactly what we are looking for. Ursu guessed that the most exhausting stage of shopping is comparison shopping — when people pore over minuscule details between products to find the best one. Specifically, he warned about traders taking the 10-year Treasury yield , a bond market benchmark, above 5% — a level it hasn't seen since mid-2007. To be sure, there are myriad reasons why the bond market has been in a state of tumult since mid-September, political considerations of a second Trump term being just one of them. "The bond market could easily nullify the impacts of another rate cut. That's because the bond market believes the Fed is cutting rates by too much, too soon, and is therefore raising long-term inflation expectations. It could carry "higher tariffs and mass deportations, which triggers stagflation in the US including a second inflation spike," the bank said.

“I have a plan and strategy,” Ivan Raiklin, a former Green Beret and political operative who has close ties to associates of Trump, told a group of Pennsylvania activists earlier this month. Four years ago, Trump’s unsuccessful efforts to overturn his loss to President Joe Biden didn’t truly materialize until after the election. Brian Snyder/ReutersBut this time around, MAGA activists have been planning to undermine a potential Harris victory well in advance of the election, with some even arguing that state legislators should simply ignore the election results and award electoral votes to Trump by default. “Those looking to overturn the election are way ahead of where they were in 2020,” said Harris. Trump himself has echoed some of the conspiracy theories pushed by his supporters, suggesting that election fraud is rampant in 2024.
