It may seem counterintuitive, but the pandemic was like a brief visit to Shangri-La for Wall Street. For the first time in years, Wall Street has to sing for its supper. A return to the office also means a return to more-classic Wall Street social norms. Wall Street, for all its highfalutin personalities and big paydays, is an apprenticeship system. For Wall Street, the heart of the pandemic was a moment to consider what life would be like at a slower, more-nurturing pace.

REUTERS/Kim Kyung-HoonTOKYO, June 22 (Reuters) - The quiet of early morning streets in one downtown Tokyo neighbourhood is broken by joggers, parents with children in strollers - and a pair of alpacas, out for their daily constitutional walk. Manager Shinya Ide (no relation) says the secret to the 5-year-old alpacas' appeal is that looking at them is comforting, and petting them even more soothing. "Alpacas are naturally very nervous and timid animals, so when people approach them, they may spit or run away, making them difficult animals to interact with," he added. "But these two are trained and have naturally laid-back personalities, so they are accustomed to people now and interact well."

The multi-trillion dollar fashion industry contributes significant greenhouse gas emissions, between 8% to 10% of total global emissions, according to the United Nations. With the majority of textiles in the fashion industry blended, it is harder to recycle one fiber without harming another. Spinnova partnered with the world's largest pulp and paper company this year, Suzano, to turn wood and waste into recycled textile fiber. Textile waste, by some measures, is a bigger issue than plastics waste, and it has a similar problem. Late last year it worked on a limited collection with fast fashion clothing giant — and consumer consumption flashpoint — Zara, using its recycled textile waste material.

June 1 (Reuters) - Outdoor clothing retailer Patagonia Inc has settled its lawsuit accusing Gap Inc (GPS.N) of illegally copying the "iconic" snapped flap pocket that the company has long featured on its fleece outerwear. The outfitter alleged the jackets were intended to confuse shoppers into believing they were Patagonia products or that Patagonia let the retailer use its trademarks. Gap denied the claims and argued in court filings that Patagonia had waited too long to bring the lawsuit. Gap also filed a counterclaim asking a judge to rule that the design of Patagonia’s Snap-T pullover fleece is not legally protected. Earlier, DeSantis and his wife, Casey DeSantis, hosted an event at a welding company in Sioux City, in Iowa's extreme west. Now they were downriver in Council Bluffs, a city of about 60,000, and had two more events ahead before flying to New Hampshire and South Carolina for the remainder of a three-state, 12-city tour. Iowa voters are well known for demanding to see candidates up close. That means he will need to stump in places like Council Bluffs again and again before February. After a "substantial decline" in first-quarter revenue and profit in mainland China, Uniqlo operations began to recover in January, resulting in a sharp increase in second-quarter profit there, Fast Retailing said in a statement. It said operating profit was 220 billion yen ($1.65 billion) in the six months through February, against 189 billion yen a year earlier, as Southeast Asia, North America and Europe logged strong revenue growth. Fast Retailing raised its full-year profit forecast to 360 billion yen from 350 billion yen forecast in January. That compared with a consensus forecast for annual profit to total 347 billion yen, according to a Refinitiv poll of 14 analysts. Japan's biggest retailer logged a 2% fall for the first quarter ending November as COVID-19 restrictions in China were a drag on growth.

COUNTERINTUITIVELY, sales are higher than ever—almost triple prepandemic levels, in fact—at J. Mueser, a trendy Manhattan tailoring firm founded in 2008, reports creative director Matthew Woodruff. But not because guys need a new suit for the boardroom. As once-strict office dress codes continue to unravel, and Wall Street types stock up on skinny chinos and fleece vests, it’s become cool, almost rebellious, to wear formal tailored pieces. “People aren’t buying tailoring because they have to now; it’s because they want to,” said Mr. Woodruff. “Guys are wearing them as a replacement for a chore coat,” said Mr. Woodruff.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met King Charles III in Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. The Ukrainian leader wore his casual, olive-green crewneck during the meeting. Zelenskyy previously said he only plans on changing his signature look if Ukraine wins the war. Zelenskyy and King Charles met in the 1844 room of Buckingham Palace, where the king has previously had an audience with British prime ministers. In an interview with the Financial Times in December, the Ukrainian president said he plans to keep wearing his new outfit until after the war is over.
Calls to “overhaul” capitalism rarely come from the C-suite, but Patagonia CEO Ryan Gellert doesn’t mince words. “Businesses for far too long have hidden behind this narrative that their number one role is to maximize shareholder wealth. That’s a fine little academic conversation to have, but we’ve outgrown it,” he says over video from his office at Patagonia’s headquarters in Ventura, Calif. Last September, Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia’s founder, announced that he was donating the company to a trust and a nonprofit that would use its earnings—some $100 million a year—to fund efforts to fight climate change. “Earth is now our only shareholder,” declared Mr. Chouinard.
The Threads That Bind Us

I wondered if the commentator knew its origin: coloring sheep fleece rather than spun thread to reduce fading. The princess in “Sleeping Beauty” pricks her finger (on a spindle, on flax, on a wool comb) in the Middle East, South America and across Europe. Perhaps inspired by the molasses months of lockdown when so many found comfort in needlework, a trendlet of books has emerged celebrating the fiber arts. She drags him to an embroidery class at the local library that seems, at first, beyond his abilities. The needle that looks like a “tiger’s tooth” bites his finger, then bites it again.
Not Lands’ End. As it looks to grow its customer base, Lands’ End is bucking the trend by purposely embracing the “forgotten generation,” Gen Xers. “It didn’t fly with our customers.”In a rush to grab the attention of younger consumers, the retailer stumbled and made fashion missteps. But the company says it knows who its core customers are. They’re Gen Xers,” he said, adding that Gen X shoppers showed the same long-term loyalty to the brand as Baby Boomers.

TOKYO, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Uniqlo parent Fast Retailing Co Ltd (9983.T) on Wednesday said it would raise wages by as much as 40%, focusing on its home market of Japan, where salaries have been under downward pressure for years. The move by the casual clothing giant may serve as a wake-up call for Japan Inc ahead of annual spring labour negotiations. The company, which operates over 3,500 clothing stores worldwide, said its remuneration system would be revised from March, and that levels in Japan would be significantly raised. read moreThe company's share price rose 1.4% in Tokyo morning trade, versus a 1% advance in the benchmark Nikkei (.N225) index. A lawyer fighting Twitter said Elon Musk tried to "fleece" ex-workers with his offers of severance pay. This allegation has already been detailed in one of the four class-action lawsuits Liss-Riordan filed against the company in late 2022 on behalf of former Twitter employees. Musk himself had previously said that people who left the company would be given three months of severance. The former workers told Insider's Kali Hays that they were disappointed by the severance ultimately offered by Musk. "Musk's decision to fleece Twitter workers isn't just shameful – it's also going to be very costly," Liss-Riordan added.
Top Trump money man Allen Weisselberg sentenced to five months in Trump Org tax-dodge scheme. He testified in a monthlong tax crimes trial against the Trump Organization, which was found guilty. The former Trump Organization chief financial officer had overseen a decade-long scheme that allowed top executives to dodge hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes. Along with charges against Weisselberg, the Manhattan district attorney's office brought charges against the Trump Corporation and the Trump Payroll Corporation, two of the entities that comprise the Trump Organization.
