For San Marino, these are some of the greatest results in the nation’s history. San Marino, a tiny microstate within Italy, is home to 33,600. Between 2006 and 2023, San Marino held the unwanted record of suffering the biggest defeat in European Championship qualifying history – a 13-0 drubbing by Germany. Bernd Schneider makes it 13-0, scoring a penalty past San Marino goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini. One goal early in the second half from 19-year-old Nicko Sensoli – who had not yet been born when San Marino last won – was enough.

HONG KONG — Pandas An An and Ke Ke, a gift from Beijing to Hong Kong, arrived in the Chinese territory on Thursday to much fanfare, two days after Finland said it would return its own pair over mounting debts. Hong Kong officials welcomed the giant pandas at the city’s international airport with a red carpet on the tarmac and panda toys. The Sichuan-born male and female will increase the total number of pandas to six, the highest ever in the financial hub. Hong Kong leader John Lee said the pandas would soon receive new names through a public contest organized by the government. An An and Ke Ke’s arrival comes just after resident giant panda Ying Ying gave birth to twin cubs ahead of her 19th birthday.

In a Telegram post late Tuesday, Zelenskyy said he had “discussed the implementation of the peace formula” with Erdoğan. But the Turkish leader appeared to dash any hopes of a fast-track to NATO membership in his interview with NBC News. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan speaking to NBC News' Chief International Correspondent Kier Simmons in New York on Tuesday. Erdoğan linked Sweden’s NATO membership to the U.S. Congress’ approval of a Turkish request to purchase 40 new F-16 fighter jets and kits to modernize the country’s fleet. “Unfortunately, many Western countries remain silent in the face of Israel, and they never took a stance against Israel,” Erdoğan said, adding: “Amongst the NATO allies, unfortunately, there are many countries siding with Israel.

Helsinki, Finland — Finland will return two giant pandas to China in November, more than eight years ahead of time, as the zoo where they live can no longer afford their upkeep, the chair of the zoo’s board told Reuters on Tuesday. Since its founding in 1949, the People’s Republic of China has sent pandas to foreign zoos to strengthen trading ties, cement foreign relations and boost its international image. The Finnish agreement was for a stay of 15 years, but instead the pandas will soon go into a month-long quarantine before they are shipped back to China, according to Ahtari Zoo, the pandas’ current home. The Kremlin said Tuesday that an order by President Vladimir Putin to transform Russia’s army into the second largest in the world was needed to address growing threats on Russia’s western borders and instability to the east. Putin on Monday ordered the regular size of the Russian army to be increased by 180,000 troops to 1.5 million active servicemen in a move that would make it the second largest in the world after China’s. “This is due to the number of threats that exist to our country along the perimeter of our borders,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on a conference call. Putin since 2022 had previously ordered two official increases in the number of combat troops — by 137,000 and 170,000 respectively. Dara Massicot, an expert in the Russian military at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace think tank, questioned whether Moscow was ready to foot the bill for the increase in active servicemen.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has long conjured images of war that Europe thought had been consigned to the history books. Several Ukrainian military units have shared videos of these drones in action in recent days. Ukraine’s 108th separate mountain assault battalion shared another video over the weekend, saying that its drone pilots had flown the “dragon drones” over Russian positions. Video purportedly shows a Ukrainian "dragon drone" shared on Telegram by Zelenskyy's chief adviser Andriy Yermak on Monday. They also include at least one instance of the fiery drones being used in Russia’s border Kursk region, which Ukrainian troops invaded last month, he said.

The channel said drones are in "great demand" among sailors and can "effectively combat" naval drones.
