Although there are no restrictions on how often you can file for bankruptcy, there are restrictions on how often you can receive a discharge. While Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies will have the same effect on your credit score, creditors may view a Chapter 13 bankruptcy more favorably. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy will stay on your credit report for 10 years, while a Chapter 13 bankruptcy will fall off after seven years. Frequently asked questions about how often you can file for bankruptcyCan I file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy after a Chapter 7 bankruptcy? Yes, you can file Chapter 13 after Chapter 7 bankruptcy, but you must wait at least four years after the discharge of your Chapter 7 to file Chapter 13.

Discount home goods retailer Big Lots filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday after high interest rates and a sluggish housing market slowed demand for its low-priced furniture and decor. As part of its Chapter 11 filing, Big Lots agreed to sell its business to private equity firm Nexus Capital Management for about $760 million, consisting of $2.5 million in cash plus its remaining debt and liabilities, court records show. While discount retailers tend to do well in rough economic cycles, Big Lots primarily caters to lower- and middle-income consumers, who have curbed discretionary spending at a higher rate than their more affluent counterparts. “Big Lots is not always good value for money. A&G Real Estate Partners has been tapped as Big Lots’ real estate advisor, while Nexus will be represented by law firm Kirkland & Ellis.

New York CNN —Big Lots, the beleaguered discount retailer that previously warned it had “substantial doubt” about its survival, has filed for bankruptcy. As part of its Chapter 11 filing, the retailer announced that private equity firm Nexus Capital Management is acquiring “substantially all” of Big Lots stores and business operations. Big Lots blamed several economic factors for its bankruptcy, including high inflation and interest rates. Big Lots is in the process of closing roughly 300 of its 1,400 store across the United States. Big Lots joins a growing list of well-known retailers hitting financial turbulence as customers cut back spending on non-essential items.

I was going on a walk to lunch one day and I passed by the unit that is now "lil sweet treat" — and I immediately knew that this was the spot for the candy shop. Product management skills in the candy shop worldA lot of the skills that I cultivated as a PM have been so helpful in building "lil sweet treat." When you buy this large amount of candy, you have to transfer that candy from one of the candy store bags into another vessel at home. Every time that your shopper reaches for a sweet treat, they see the "lil sweet treat" branding associate that sweet treat with "lil sweet treat."

Haidt and other researchers argue that technology and social media have led to an epidemic of isolation and loneliness. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy named social media as one of the main reasons young people feel more alone. "Social media is not this monolithic experience where everybody experiences the same thing," he says. Navigating an uncertain futureHaidt proposes a few solutions for Gen Z and their parents to curb social media and smartphone reliance. Americans are increasingly struggling with credit card debt and other loans, and consumers are paying more for basic banking services like A.T.M. And 42 percent of households carrying balances on credit cards reported that their overall debt level was “unmanageable,” up from 38 percent in 2022, the network found. More borrowers have been falling behind on credit card payments, especially those who have maxed out spending on their cards, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Making payments on credit cards as well as car loans, student loans and other installment loans has been increasingly challenging for consumers, the financial network found. (The analysis, which the network publishes annually, is based on public data and a nationally representative survey of consumers.)

A group of senior Biden administration officials is traveling to Shanghai this week for a round of high-level meetings intended to keep the economic relationship between the United States and China on stable footing amid mounting trade tensions between the two countries. Officials are expected to discuss ways to maintain economic and financial stability, capital markets and efforts to curb the flow of fentanyl into the United States. Although communication between the United States and China has improved over the past year, the economic relationship remains fraught because of disagreements over industrial policy and China’s dominance over green energy technology. The United States is also restricting American investments in Chinese sectors that policymakers believe could threaten national security. They are expected to meet with the People’s Bank of China’s deputy governor, Xuan Changneng, and other senior Chinese officials.

"A lot of people are using it for their business — Blue Zone this, Blue Zone that — I'm sure they know what it means, but the lifestyle is something that's fading, unfortunately, because it was all the old-timers keeping it alive," Jones told BI.

The Federal Reserve is gearing up to cut interest rates as soon as next month, which could bring relief to people with mortgages, credit cards and car loans. Certificates of deposit — fixed-rate bank accounts with term limits — are a go-to when interest rates are high. With interest rates coming down, the idea is just pay and save as much as you can right now. There’s no bad time to do that, but when the central bank lowers interest rates, it can be even more valuable. “It’s tempting to say, ‘Well, when interest rates go down, stocks are going to do well, because people are switching from low-return to higher-return assets,’” she said.

Chicago Federal Reserve President Austan Goolsbee on Monday vowed that the central bank would react to signs of weakness in the economy and indicated that interest rates could be too restrictive now. Policymakers have been focused on the "real" fed funds rate, which is the Fed's benchmark minus the inflation rate. As inflation declines, the real rate increases — unless the Fed chooses to cut. The real rate now is around 2.73%; Fed officials judge the long-term real rate to be closer to 0.5%. Traders expect the Fed to slice 1.25-1.5 percentage points off the funds rate by the end of the year, according to the CME Group's FedWatch Tool.

Japan will retain its basic approach on the yen with intervention remaining an option to tackle excessively volatile moves in the exchange rate, the country's new top currency diplomat Atsushi Mimura told Reuters. "It has been internationally agreed that measures including interventions are allowed when necessary," he added. Previously head of the ministry's international bureau, the 57-year-old became vice finance minister for international affairs on Wednesday — a post that oversees Japan's currency policy and coordinates economic policy with other countries. Mimura's appointment comes as the Japanese currency shows tentative signs of recovery from 38-year lows, as investors unwound their long-running bets against the currency ahead of a Bank of Japan meeting this week. While a weak yen gives exports a boost, it has become a source of concern for policymakers by pushing up the cost of imports and hurting consumption.

Russia is considering legalizing the use of cryptocurrency for international payments as the country faces ongoing financial pressure from Western sanctions. The State Duma, which is the lower house of the Russian Parliament, will on Tuesday consider a law that permits making international payments via cryptocurrencies, Elvira Nabiullina, the governor of Russia's central bank, said Tuesday. Russia's central bank is also itself looking to move money across borders using crypto, with its chief saying crypto-based payments will take place before the end of 2024. In January 2022, the Russian central bank proposed banning the use of crypto for transactions, as well as the mining of digital currencies, citing threats to financial stability, citizens' wellbeing and monetary policy sovereignty.

Despite its progressive intentions, the tax failed to raise sufficient revenue for the monarch, as people boarded up their windows to lower their tax liability. Window tax was a property tax based on the number of windows in a house. In addition, the minister also lifted capital gains for stock market investors who cash in within a year from 15% to 20%. While the tax raises more than £3 billion ($3.9 billion) annually, it has given birth to far riskier forms of speculation while simultaneously hurting the stock market. However, given the lofty valuations that Indian stock markets currently trade, the tax to skim the excesses might be a positive development over the longer term.
