WASHINGTON (AP) — Argentina's right-wing President-elect Javier Milei will meet with President Joe Biden's national security adviser on Tuesday in Washington, according to the White House. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Monday that Milei will meet with White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan and other administration officials. The Treasury Department said in a statement that Milei's economic policy advisers will also meet with senior Treasury Officials on Tuesday. A new version of the popular diabetes treatment Mounjaro can be sold as a weight-loss drug, U.S. regulators announced Wednesday. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Eli Lilly's drug, named Zepbound. Zepbound is the latest diabetes drug approved for chronic weight management, joining Novo Nordisk's Wegovy, a high-dose version of its diabetes treatment Ozempic. Those with diabetes, who have a harder time losing weight, cut about 12%, or nearly 27 pounds (12 kilograms), the FDA said. Approved for weight loss in 2021, Wegovy helped people lose about 15% of their weight or 34 pounds (15 kilograms), according to study results.

BAGHDAD—The U.S. is rushing to support Middle East leaders facing domestic turmoil over the Israel-Hamas conflict, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken making two surprise visits Sunday to the West Bank and Iraq, as the Biden administration comes under pressure to secure a pause in fighting and ease regional tensions. The unannounced stops, first to the West Bank city of Ramallah, and then, to Iraq’s capital, Baghdad, followed a summit of Arab leaders Saturday in Jordan, where Blinken reassured Middle East allies that the U.S. would work to keep the conflict from spreading and help Palestinian civilians caught in the unfolding humanitarian crisis. Blinken departed Baghdad late Sunday for Ankara, where he was expected to hold discussions with his Turkish counterpart about humanitarian aid and the collective interest in preventing a broader conflict.

QUSRA, West Bank—On the morning of Oct. 12, Hani Odeh was considering a problem: how to get the bodies of four Palestinians shot dead during an attack by Israeli settlers to the cemetery in Qusra, where he is mayor. The four men had been killed the day before. Israeli police are still investigating the circumstances of the deaths, which came after Hamas’s massacre of over 1,400 people a few days earlier, and the Israeli military had instructed the mayor to change the route of the cortege from the hospital to avoid inflaming the situation further. Odeh, smoking cigarettes in his office, the customary portrait of Yasser Arafat hanging above his desk, said he complied.
