The quarter-percentage point cut the Federal Reserve is widely anticipated to deliver this week could be a bad idea, according to Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research. "The last word we got from Fed Chair Jerome Powell was the economy is strong and we don't need to rush to lower interest rates. Fed funds futures predict a 99% chance that the U.S. central bank will cut interest rates by another quarter percentage point this week, and less than a 1% probability of rates remaining at their current levels. "Everything, to me, suggests that interest rates are just about where they should be," Yardeni added. By reducing rates now, the U.S. central bank risks a market meltup that could lead to a "wicked correction."

A bitcoin token stands next to a collection of U.S. one dollar bills. Bitcoin soared above $105,000 for the first time, buoyed by signs President-elect Donald Trump will go ahead with a potential strategic bitcoin reserve. But analysts say they are also likely to be wary of renewed inflation with Trump set to take office in January. Bitcoin surged as much as 3.6% from Sunday's close to reach an all-time high of $106,533. Trump suggested in an interview with CNBC on Friday that he plans to go ahead with a plan to build a U.S. bitcoin strategic reserve, similar to its strategic oil reserve.

Federal officials have so far downplayed many of the reported sightings, saying they are likely small airplanes or other manned aircraft. Gregory McNeal, a drone expert, told CNN that growing distrust in government communication is fueling demands for greater transparency and accountability from federal officials. Republican Assemblyman Paul Kanitra of New Jersey told CNN’s Sara Sidner Friday there had been drone sightings every night since then. Kanitra said federal officials were losing trust with the American people because several of the drone reports have come from places like military facilities, but federal officials have been dismissive. An FBI official on Saturday noted some drone sightings reported to tip lines were matched to similar flight approach patterns from nearby airports.

Family offices making direct investments in private companies may be taking on more risk than they realize, according to a new survey. According to the survey, only half of family offices making direct private investments have private equity professionals on staff who are trained to structure and identify the best private deals. Yet when vying for investments in private companies, family offices often stress that they don't need a fast exit like private equity firms. Nearly a third of family offices surveyed said their time horizon for direct deals is only between three and five years. When making a decision on a company to invest in, family offices emphasize the management team and leadership over the product.

CNN —The family of an American woman killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank said they left a meeting with Secretary of State Antony Blinken frustrated and with little hope anyone would be held accountable for her death. “Nothing left us optimistic about justice for my sister moving forward,” Ozden Bennett, the sister of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, said after the meeting at the US State Department Monday. Eygi was shot and killed in early September while participating in a weekly protest against an Israeli settlement near the Palestinian village of Beita. The family also called for Blinken to publicly pressure Israel to finish that probe before the Biden administration leaves office. An American was killed abroad, and we hope any American government, any administration, would take that seriously and pursue justice,” Ali said.

Although Democrats were wrecked up and down the ballot in Pennsylvania, Casey doesn’t think the party needs to rip up its playbook. In fact, he thinks the factor that will help them the most is not having to face Trump on the ballot again. But obviously, for probably a variety of reasons, President Trump had his strongest performance ever in Pennsylvania of the three races and got about 50%. I don’t think that’s accurate, but that’s the perception that people had, and that if he was able to achieve that once, he could do it again. And at the time, President Trump was very clear about that.

“Changing the law will give parents the right to sell their young daughters,” Batta said in a telephone interview last month. UNICEF reported in April 2023 that 28% of girls are married before the legal age of 18, although under Iraqi law, girls as young as 15 can be married with the consent of a judge and their parents. As well as setting the age of marriage, it addressed child custody, inheritances and alimony payments focused on the welfare of both children and women. As a result, some lawmakers and rights groups are concerned that this would pave the way for legalizing and expanding child marriage in the country. “Changing the law will lead many underage girls to face circumstances similar to what I went through,” she said.

That is how some convicted felons say society looks at them, no matter the crime. There is a stigma that sticks to convicted felons even years after the crime, says Bruce Western, professor of Sociology and Social Justice and director of the Justice Lab at Columbia University. “It doesn’t hurt that he (Trump) is an older White man who is extremely wealthy.”Restrictions on convicted felons vary from state to state. Unfortunately, as I wrote in my recent book, "The Mentally Strong Leader," there are some days when these moments are hard to come by. The key is to bring more happiness sparks into your life — not by chance, but by choice. The most mentally strong people lean on these five mantras, which can provide little bursts of resilience and create sparks of happiness. 'It's not what I lost, it's what I still have'In times of adversity, it's easy to focus on what's gone. 'Big picture, small step'When we struggle in the face of setbacks, we can lose perspective.
