Astronomers have never detected dark matter, but they believe it makes up about 85% of the total matter in the universe. Meanwhile, the existence of dark energy helps researchers explain why the universe is expanding — and why that expansion is speeding up. A prime example is the European Space Agency’s wide-angle Euclid telescope that launched in 2023 to investigate the riddles of dark energy and dark matter. Euclid this week delivered the first piece of a cosmic map — containing about 100 million stars and galaxies — that will take six years to create. These stunning 3D observations may help scientists see how dark matter warps light and curves space across galaxies.

Joe Kovach is trying to find the owner of a ring found among the debris left behind by Florida's two recent hurricanes. It is likely the owner of the ring is from Crystal Beach, Ozona, or Palm Harbor, Kovach said. He did not include a photo or description of the ring to ensure it is returned to the rightful owner who can accurately describe it. A fanny pack containing family photos and an arcade game card — and even a Social Security card whose owner Kovach was able to track down.

A 23-year-old U.S. Army sergeant was found dead Monday evening on Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri hours after she was reported missing, officials said. "The Fort Leonard Wood community is devastated by this tragic loss. Roque, of Ligonier, Indiana, was assigned to the 5th Engineer Battalion as a bridge crewmember and mine dog handler with the K9 detachment, U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood said. She enlisted in 2020 and attended basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, an Army installation post that trains about 80,000 military and civilians each year. Lebanese state media has said an Israeli airstrike killed three journalists in southern Lebanon overnight. A blue press helmet and a vest could be seen among the rubble of a damaged building. A cameraman and a broadcast engineer working for Lebanon-based TV channel Al Mayadeen were killed, the media outlet said. Another cameraman working for Hezbollah-affiliated TV channel Al-Manar was also killed, the outlet said. Two of them had been killed since Israel’s most recent escalation began last month.
