Online content creators, they say, often fail to ensure the same basic standards for treating cast and crew that more traditional entertainment sets do. However, as digital productions grow, those who work with or under creators said some could benefit from the structure seen on traditional Hollywood sets. Unlike Hollywood sets, most digital productions do not necessarily rely on union workers. Some believe the digital entertainment space — which includes a wide range of productions, including reality and scripted content — would benefit from union oversight. “Because new [digital] media has got about 15 years, the unions have 100.

Joan of Arc: Why does her image still resonate?
  + stars: | 2024-10-15 | by ( Tacita Quinn | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +8 min
CNN —More than 800 years after her birth, Joan of Arc — a patron saint of France — remains an object of not just historical, but cultural fascination. Humble beginningsOne of five children in a peasant family in Domrémy, in north-eastern France, Joan was born in the year 1412. The Amazonian image of Joan of Arc in armor is perhaps the most recurrent one in popular culture, inspiring thousands, if not hundreds and thousands, of similar depictions. It also provided the inspiration for Carl Theodore Dreyer’s silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) starring Renée Jeanne Falconetti. She is also a cautionary tale for young women, a brutal warning of the fickle nature of celebrity and a symbol of morality and strength.

The surging floodwaters from Hurricane Milton poured in through the windows late Wednesday and their refrigerator slowly floated away. Even after floodwaters subside, the stress and anxiety can lead to lingering mental health challenges. Storms can exacerbate existing mental health problems or lead to new ones. Concerns about the mental health effects of back-to-back disasters come as researchers predict more frequent extreme weather events. But research suggests the hurricanes will make people more vulnerable to mental health problems and likely make it harder for them to recover, she said.

CNN —Police in Toronto, Canada, are opening a hate crime investigation after shots were fired overnight into the window of a Jewish girls’ elementary school – the second time this year the school was targeted by gunfire, officials said. The investigation into the incident will be led by the agency’s Gun and Gang Task Force with assistance from its hate crime unit, he added. There were no injuries or reports of gunshots heard, and the building was empty because the school is currently closed for the Jewish High Holidays, Krawczyk said.
