Liam Payne, a member of British pop band One Direction, died Wednesday at the age of 31 after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina, local authorities said. Sistema de Atencion Medica de Emergencia said in a statement to Telemundo that Payne fell from the balcony in Palermo. Police “were directed to the hotel by a 911 call reporting an aggressive man,” the emergency services agency, known as SAME, said. Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari says the Israel Defense Forces will look into how a Hezbollah-launched drone entered Israel on Sunday without triggering an alert. WELLINGTON — A Royal New Zealand Navy vessel ran aground and sank off Samoa but all 75 crew and passengers on board were safe, the New Zealand Defense Force said in a statement on Sunday. Several vessels responded and assisted in rescuing the crew and passengers who had left the ship in lifeboats, Arndell said. The cause of the grounding was unknown and would need further investigation, New Zealand Defense Force said. The vessel later capsized and was below the surface by 9 a.m. local time, New Zealand Defense Force said. New Zealand’s Navy is already working at reduced capacity with three of its nine ships idle due to personnel shortages.

“We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers,” a Verizon spokesperson told CNN Monday. Complaints to Verizon’s verified account on X show that customers have been frustrated by a lack of cell service and an inability to connect to the network. Many Verizon iPhone customers complained that their phones had been stuck in “SOS” mode Monday morning, allowing only emergency calls via satellite. Although relatively infrequent, cell service disruptions have caused some widespread headaches this year. The network went down again for a few hours in June and August.

Nine people, one of them a child, have been confirmed as dead after their boat sank in the early hours of Saturday morning, emergency and rescue services said. “After what happened yesterday and if the forecast for the arrival of the migrant boats happens, then it will be the biggest humanitarian crisis to happen to the Canary Islands in 30 years,” Candelaria Delgado of the Canary Islands government, told reporters on Sunday. Three of those rescued suffered from hypothermia and dehydration, rescue services said on Sunday. As hopes of finding more survivors diminished, police installed a morgue on El Hierro, authorities said. Three other boats reached the Canary Islands during the night, carrying 208 migrants.
