Global trade changed considerably over the past four years — benefiting India — as President Joe Biden retained much of Trump's tariffs on China. EnergyOn the one hand, analysts expect Indian interests to be aligned with those of the United States regarding oil prices . Trump's previous term in office, whether intentionally or coincidently, saw moderate to low oil prices. As India imports over 90% of its oil needs, New Delhi will likely welcome any move by the U.S. to keep oil prices low. A quick resolution of the war in Ukraine — Trump's campaign promise — would also prove to be negative for oil prices.

Japan is one stock market outside the U.S. that could win now that Donald Trump is headed back to the White House. Trump has previously proposed tariffs of up to 20% on imports, with a stringent tax of 60% on goods coming from China. Japanese stocks rallied, however, as the yen weakened with some investors expecting the U.S. defense partner stands to gain most from Trump's policies. However, Akutsu warned, with few positive earnings surprises in the market, a year-end rally could be "limited in scope." Takada said investors may have to weigh the near-term benefits of a Trump market against the risks of a possible trade war, even with a rise in the Japanese equity risk premium.

Operating EBITDA of $857 million in the quarter came in ahead of the $818 million consensus, according to FactSet. DuPont's performance on profitability metrics shined, with the better-than-expected operating EBITDA and earnings results for the quarter compounded by an increase to management's full-year outlook on both metrics. Super giant TVs are flying off store shelves

XXL TVs – are becoming a huge hit as the cost of giant screens sinks sharply, and viewers look to replace the screens they bought during the peak of the pandemic a few years ago. Still, the growing popularity of XXL TVs could help Best Buy climb out of a series of downbeat quarters. Target, Costco and Walmart also have similar XXL TVs on sale ahead of the holiday season. XXL TVs are mirroring the growth of what four years ago were considered extra-large televisions: 65-inch models that customers scooped up during the pandemic. But with those now-four-year old televisions starting to get long in the tooth for some impatient customers, XXL TVs represent an attractive upgrade.

The company announced in August that any political ads that ran at least once before Oct. 29 would still be allowed to run on Meta's services in the final week before Election Day. I live with my husband and two teens, and we've had a Costco membership since 2014. Costco has some great deals, but sometimes buying in bulk isn't worth it for our family. The holiday shopping season is upon us, and our retail stocks are well-positioned to thrive, according to Wall Street research firm Telsey Advisory Group. Telsey Advisory expects value-seeking to be a key theme among shoppers this year, which puts companies with reputations for good deals on solid ground. Overall, the firm expects holiday retail sales up between 3% to 3.5% this year, compared with 4.6% growth last year and a 5.4% increase in 2022. Costco has had a good year so far, and that should continue in the final months of 2024, Telsey Advisory argued. Samsung Electronics on Thursday reported third-quarter sales and operating profit slightly above its own expectations, but its chip business posted a sharply lower profit from the previous quarter. The semiconductor unit reported third-quarter operating profit of 3.86 trillion won (about $2.8 billion), down 40% from the previous quarter. While its memory chip unit benefited by strong demand for its artificial intelligence and conventional server products, Samsung said "inventory adjustments negatively impacted mobile demand." To be sure, it wasn't the typical beat-and-raise quarter that Linde has become known for over the years. Linde Why we own it: The industrial gas supplier and engineering firm has a stellar track record of consistent earnings growth. It increased to $10 billion thanks to the largest gas project sale in company history. Other companies in the industrial gas space have a shakier track record at this, especially for clean hydrogen projects. Guidance For the fourth quarter, Linde expects adjusted EPS in the range of $3.86 to $3.96, implying 8% to 10% growth compared with the year-ago period.
