It's about to be cheaper for families to visit Disney's domestic theme parks. The Walt Disney Company on Wednesday announced new, limited time discounts on children's tickets at Disneyland and Disney World. Universal's domestic parks, as well as region players like Six Flags and Sea World , have reported lower attendance this year. Meanwhile, the parks division saw a 13% increase in revenue during the third quarter, reaching $8.3 billion. The recent additions of the two Star Wars: Galaxy Edge lands in Disneyland and Disney World are estimated to have cost $1 billion each.

CNN —To many, the southern Dalmatian coast is Croatia. The Adriatic coast is undeniably beautiful, with the forbidding Dinaric Alps as a dramatic backdrop to the heavily indented coastline and dozens of islands scattered about. Until 2022, reaching it from the north meant crossing into Bosnia, whose 12.4 miles of coastline sits below the Neretva delta, before giving way once more to Croatia’s southern Dalmatian coast. Elaphiti islandsWander along Dubrovnik’s old port and in seconds you’ll be offered a day trip to the Elaphiti islands, north of the city. Cavtat, about 15 miles south of Dubrovnik, has been steadily growing in popularity as an alternative to the city.

Last month the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), a UNESCO advisory body, issued a “heritage alert” for Jingu Gaien. Nishikawa believes that the commercial nature of the redevelopment “breaks the promise” of keeping the Jingu Gaien as a public space. Protesters gather for a demonstration at Meiji Jingu Gaien on September 15, 2023. Parking garages (known as multistory car parks in the U.K.) are one area where the proliferation of EVs and bigger vehicles is expected to have a major impact. In a statement, it said the reason behind the weight increase was "due to electric and hybrid batteries and the size of cars increasing." The cumulative load of these vehicles in parking garages could present some challenges in certain circumstances. "Because what we want is the public to maintain confidence in our car parks and structural engineers." The statement also said the "rise of e-mobility … helps us mitigate climate change and brings new questions, including weight and the impact on car parks."

People gather ahead of the "Festival of Fantasy" parade at the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom theme park in Orlando, Florida, U.S. July 30, 2022. REUTERS/Octavio Jones Acquire Licensing RightsSept 20 (Reuters) - Walt Disney's (DIS.N) $60 billion spending plan on parks and cruises to stay ahead of growing competition has worried some Wall Street analysts with its long road to payoff. "Expanding parks and cruises tends to be a multi year undertaking as a result of which, revenue and margin acceleration lags the investment cycle," Barclays analysts said. The bump in parks spending also follows a quiet period for the business during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, when the spread of COVID-19 forced park closures and hit attendance. That led Needham analysts to warn Disney could be basing its decision on "unsustainable and elevated profit margins."

New York CNN —Disney is greatly expanding its investment into theme parks and cruises, the company said Tuesday. The investment comes at a time the company is facing revenue challenges in its streaming services, movie and television assets — almost everywhere but its international theme parks. The theme park, which was announced in 2019, is set to include restaurants, hotels and, of course, rides. It will become the third theme park within the Universal Orlando Resort, stepping up its rivalry with Walt Disney World’s four theme parks. Trouble at homeDisney said Tuesday that it is focused on “expanding and enhancing” its theme parks, in the US and internationally, along with its cruise lines.

Park, 41, has been a chaplain at Tampa General Hospital for eight years, and has counseled thousands of patients and their families. Park says he’s spent a lot of time as an adult reconciling with his upbringing and trying to heal. And regret is a common theme among his dying patients. ”What else do dying patients worry about? We are so connected that often we worry about how other people will be affected by our own death.”It’s a reminder that patients’ loved ones face a tough journey after a loss.

The solution to keep prices under control seems fairly simple: Just build more housing. For a time, sprawl boosted housing supply and accommodated newcomers to the West: Nearly 60 million more people live in the region now compared with the 1950s. Running out of landWhen the economy crashed in 2008, housing construction screeched to a halt. All this red tape has caused a serious slowdown in much-needed housing construction. Build, build, buildDespite the unique challenges of building in the paradoxically wide-open West, some cities have been able to break through.

Racial and class segregation have also long shaped and limited access to public places. "The fundamental rule of public space is that what attracts people most is other people." So it's counterproductive to stop responsible drinkers from enjoying themselves in parks, at street fairs, and in other public places. There are an average of eight public toilets for every 100,000 people in the US, but access to facilities varies widely. By contrast, countries like the UK and Switzerland have many more public toilets per capita.

It’s the latest example of how extreme weather, exacerbated by climate change, impacted major North American attractions this summer. Extreme heat in Florida also disrupted attendance at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando this summer. Theme parks are building indoor rides and changing ticket policies to respond to brutal weather conditions. Golding has lowered his estimates for the theme park industry because of growing risks from extreme weather. SeaWorld warns in its annual report to investors that extreme weather events could cause it to “incur significant costs.”“The series of extreme weather events experienced in recent years presents an alarming trend,” SeaWorld said.

More than 888,000 spectators attended the U.S. Open last year, and at least that many are expected this year at an event that is in some ways an annual contrast of culture and class. Many fans will drive there on the crowded parkways and highways adjacent to the stadium. Some will ride the commuter rails from Manhattan, Long Island and New Jersey, and others will squeeze onto the No. “We never lose sight of the fact that we are in a public park,” said Daniel Zausner, the National Tennis Center’s chief operating officer. “We want to be a bigger player in the community, always.”

Esopus, West Park and Ulster Park are known for expensive homes, including turn-of-the-century mansions, on parklike grounds overlooking the Hudson, along with several monasteries and other religious institutions that have helped shield the river’s west bank from development. There are antique stone houses along the Rondout Creek in the hamlet of St. Remy, and along the Wallkill River in the hamlet of Rifton and Black Creek in Esopus. The town’s other small hamlets are Connelly, which borders the Rondout Creek, and Sleightsburgh, whose peninsula-shaped park juts out into the Hudson. (Three additional hamlets are listed on the town’s website, but according to the town’s supervisor, Danielle Freer, they are now obsolete.) The West Park venue occupies a 24,000-square-foot antique Italian-style villa and an adjoining brick building that had housed a Christian Brothers monastery for a century.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW.PA) said late on Monday it will transfer its Westfield San Francisco shopping mall to lenders. The announcement followed Park Hotels & Resorts (PK.N) statement last week that it ceased making payments toward a $725 million mortgage linked to its Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc 55 hotels. Westfield's decision is the latest blow to San Francisco, the once-booming tech hub that has been particularly hard hit by the pandemic. The potential for difficulties from commercial real estate to flow through to banks is also becoming a bigger worry for investors and regulators. Warren Wachsberger, CEO of Aecom Capital, a real estate investor, said mall owners like Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield are focusing on their best properties.
