For a whole lot of people, the latter best describes how they are feeling about Twitter, the live social conversation app. Having overseen — devised, really — the demise of Twitter, Musk has also created a reasonable chance that he could now be in charge of a complete brand blowout, should this daring reboot eventuate in extinction for X. The app formerly known as “Twitter” had almost 370 million users globally in December of last year, after Musk paid (overpaid) $44 billion to buy it. Less than a year later, it is already down to 353 million users, and Statista projects the number will decline to 335 million in 2024. The X logo is pretty nice. Mourn the blue bird for now, but get used to the new X. I know we miss the blue bird, but come on, the new X logo isn't that bad. Lots of people were nervous that the demise of the bird logo and its renaming to "X" would come with another ugly or incomprehensible logo. Goodbye, Twitter bird.

Elon Musk said he was about to make one of the most visible changes to Twitter since he took control of the social media company last fall: replacing its widely recognized bird logo. In a tweet early Sunday morning Eastern time, Mr. Musk said that “soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”He added shortly after, “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight,” it would “go live worldwide tomorrow.”“X” is a term for what Mr. Musk has described as an “everything app” that could combine social media, instant messaging and payment services, akin to the popular Chinese app WeChat.
