If you weren’t a teenager in 1984, it might be hard to understand this, but here goes: There are Gen X-ers who remember where they were the first time they saw the video for the Wham! clap-along pop anthem “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.”In it, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, the heartthrob frontmen of Wham!, wear big smiles and beachy short shorts as they perform their infectious bop — titled after a note Ridgeley had once left on his family’s refrigerator — for a small crowd of adoring fans. Ridgeley, who turned 60 in January, remembers making it as great fun. “It was our first video with an audience,” he said during a recent video interview from his home in London. “The atmosphere was really quite excitable and exciting.”Ridgeley and his bandmate are the subject of “Wham!,” a new documentary that premieres on Wednesday on Netflix.

They have fantastic sound systems, and rival Latino churches tend to view them as neutral ground. Even in Kansas, several pastors told their congregants not to attend A.O.A. “Stop trying to correct how your brother does his ministry,” he told the pastors that morning. “You already have your own.” Jesus, he reminded them, said you can’t pour new wine into old wineskins; the old leather breaks, and the new wine spills. The James Webb Space Telescope detected a key carbon molecule in space for the first time ever. The methyl cation, or CH3 + , molecule was found in a young star system in the Orion Nebula. Scientists have theorized that methyl cation could lay the foundations for organic chemistry, and possibly life, across the universe. "We can only now prove its existence thanks to the awesome capabilities of the James Webb telescope. Many Gen Z-ers who came of age during the past couple of years missed out on the record-low mortgage rates of 2020 and 2021. But even with higher rates now in place, Mr. Channel expects the number of Gen Z home buyers to grow from here. “Even though you might hear a lot of doom and gloom and people might say, ‘Well, Gen Z-ers will never be able to buy a house,’ they said the same thing about millennials, and millennials are the largest group of home buyers in America,” he said. Mr. Channel relayed some tips for 20-somethings looking to buy a home: Focus on boosting your credit score and repaying student loans. And take advantage of first-time buyer programs, including Federal Housing Administration loans, which can ease the burden on young buyers with smaller down payments and lower credit scores.

That's worrying concert venues that depend on alcohol sales for their profits, Billboard reported. "Bar sales are important for every music venue, but especially for smaller ones," a talent agent told the magazine. That's because alcohol sales help keep the lights on at clubs around the country. David Slutes, who runs a venue called Club Congress in Tuscon, Arizona, said that he'd noticed alcohol sales had dropped up to 25% when booking shows for a Gen Z-focused crowd. Some venues told the magazine they're experimenting with renting out their facilities for more private events to make up for lost revenue.

Here are some of the generation-defining events that have had a profound effect on Gen Z. As Business Insider previously reported, Gen Z was established as a generation in 2019 by the Pew Research Center, which defines generations — such as Gen Z, Millennials, and Baby Boomers — to understand how perspectives and views change, rather than to create strict categories that define people. Here are some cultural events that have shaped the attitudes and tendencies of members of Gen Z. The recession of 2008 showed Gen Z 'the fragility inherent in the system'Members of Gen Z were children, or babies, during the Great Recession, so it hung over their formative years. Instead of looking ahead to a world of opportunities, Gen Z now peers into an uncertain future," the report continued.

While it’s legal to put kids in reality shows, in many cases, it’s hard to see how it’s ethical. In the documentary, Jill says the Duggar children were never adequately compensated for the loss of their privacy. “That’s how this whole system is set up, for the men to have just total, ultimate authority over their family,” she said. “Yes,” Jill says in the film, “we were taken advantage of.”Jim Bob ultimately offered Jill and Derick a lump sum, they say, but there were strings attached. “You had to sign another deal with my dad — his production company,” Jill said, for a term that “would be like forever.

China's Gen Z is broke, and they have the receipts to prove it. This Weibo user in Anhui saved $21.29. What a joke," one Weibo user in Guangdong wrote, posting on Weibo a record of some $1,890 in savings. To put things into perspective, the average Chinese Gen Z-er earns around $596 a month, per Statista. And now that China's Gen Z is feeling the pain, perhaps one Weibo comment — liked more than 700 times at press time — sums it up best.
“Virtually every major theme in the sixties’ controversies would divide Americans for the rest of the century, setting the fuse for the so-called culture wars,” they note. The “aftershock” was the backlash in the 1970s and ’80s against what were thought of as countercultural values. As these subjects were surveyed into the earlier 2000s, the pew gap only widened. The connection between political conservatism and religiosity has kept many Republicans in the pews, while it’s pushed scores of Democrats away from religion entirely. While moderate and liberal boomers did move away from religion as they got older, the percentage of American nones really began to increase in the late 1990s.
A video shows bombs being dropped on what appears to be a Russian military warehouse in Bakhmut. The kits transform unguided free-fall bombs into all-weather, precision-guided smart weapons. The bomb kits, which transform unguided, free-fall bombs into precision-guided munitions, have been sent to Ukraine in recent months, per reports. The kits can be bolted to unguided bombs ranging from 500 to 2,000 pounds, and its pop-out wings allow it to glide up to 45 miles. The account noted that this appears to be one of the first videos showing bombs equipped with JDAM-ERs in action in Ukraine.
in order to cast their ballot when polling stations open in local elections next week, sparking concern that some parts of the electorate will in effect be disenfranchised by the change. Large parts of England vote in local council elections on May 4, and a national election is expected next year. In Northern Ireland and many countries in Europe, the need to produce photo ID is established and not unusual. But rapid adoption of this new system in England leaves campaigners fearing that voters will be caught out by the change. "There's a lot of risk in doing what is essentially the biggest change to our elections for a generation," she said.
Right-wing prime-time host Tucker Carlson is leaving Fox News immediately, the cable network announced Monday. "FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways," the company said in a statement Monday. Carlson's program, "Tucker Carlson Tonight," has long been one of Fox's top rated programs. Carlson, 53, was among the Fox hosts and executives who were questioned as part of the Dominion lawsuit. While the Dominion lawsuit was unlikely to affect Fox's business, it was unclear the toll it would take on its programming and hosts.

Leaked Pentagon documents highlighted concerns about the Joint Direct Attack Munition weapon. The American-made bomb kit used by Ukraine may have been hamstrung by Russian jammers. One document in particular highlights concerns about US-made bomb kits which have been sent to Ukraine in recent months. One factor is the bomb fuses aren't arming at their release, which Ukraine's air force has worked to fix. But investors have backed off, especially in formerly hot areas like Phoenix, Redfin found. The significant drop in investor purchases means less competition for regular homebuyers. Investors purchased approximately $31 billion worth of properties — equivalent to 48,445 homes —nationwide in the last three months of 2022. They include Las Vegas, Phoenix, the New York City suburb of Nassau County, Atlanta, and Charlotte, all of which saw investor purchases fall over 60% year-over-year, the report said. But the drop in home prices and investor purchases last year could signal even more dire conditions in 2023, some analysts and experts predict.
China's Gen Z is out to "rectify" the workplace, and they want their millennial bosses to give in. The Weibo hashtag "The post-2000s generation is rectifying the workplace" is a forum filled with Gen Z rage. The hashtag documents Chinese Gen Z rage in all its varied formsIt is unclear exactly how the hashtag started. At times, the posts on the Gen Z workers' threads devolve into rants about their "evil" millennial bosses. The rumblings from Gen Z, however, stand in stark contrast to narratives about Chinese millennials that have dominated popular culture.

Now, Gen Z is suffering from lack of mentorship, tenure, and stability at a pivotal point in their careers. The cascade of quits over the last two years created a generative machine: Workers see others quitting, then they quit in turn. Short-staffed companies work the remaining employees harder — leading them to quit. Welcome to Generation Quit. As pretty much everyone began leaving, the workers left behind were more burnt out and overloaded.

There’s one skill all remote workers, workcation-ers, frequent travelers and, frankly, anyone with co-workers in other states or countries must have: the ability to navigate multiple time zones. It’s one I exercise daily. My editor is in New York. I am constantly asking myself: What time is it for them right now? Will this midnight message get lost in their morning deluge?
And there are questions about the quality of care at urgent care centers and whether they adequately serve low-income communities. Additionally, passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010 spurred an increase in urgent care providers as millions of newly insured Americans sought out health care. Private-equity and venture capital funds also poured billions into deals for urgent care centers, according to data from PitchBook. Equity concernsSome doctors and researchers worry that patients with primary care doctors – and those without – are substituting urgent care visits in place of a primary care provider. There are also concerns about the oversaturation of urgent care centers in higher-income areas that have more consumers with private health care and limited access in medically underserved areas.

Jonathan Haidt says that the young “wish they had childhoods more like those of their parents, in which they could play outside and have adventures with their friends” (Weekend Interview by Tunku Varadarajan, Dec. 31). So, let me ask: Just who exactly is preventing these coddled, anxiety-ridden Gen Z-ers from doing exactly that? My advice is to put your phones down and play in the dirt for a while. You might learn something. Steven Morris

Patients’ ER experiences typically consist of long wait times, and that naturally leads to frustration and a frequent misunderstanding that nothing is being done or that they are being diagnosed improperly. The truth is our emergency departments have had to take on a lot more than that, serving as the safety net of the country’s entire health care system. You’ve heard this over and over — our health care system is broken. We have lost valuable physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and other vital members of the health care system. We have a very different health care system and training of physicians than those countries.
