Here are some charts illustrating what has changed, and what has not, in meme stocks. Data from JPMorgan illustrate how quickly sentiment can turn among individual investors, who have been among the key drivers of moves in meme stocks. Retail investors sold a net $852 million in single stocks in the past week. The Roundhill MEME ETF (MEME.P), which tracks the performance of a basket of meme stocks, is down about 55% from where it started trading in December 2021, though up about 38% for the year. A quick rise, often followed by a rapid descent, is a fate common to meme stocks of both the past and present.

What’s in your tap water?” (If the drinking water is contaminated, formula mixed with it will be, too.) “But they feel heard.”Among the groups most likely to be exposed to PFAS in their drinking water are those in low-income communities or who live near military or industrial sites. determined that two kinds of PFAS — PFOS and PFOA — are “likely to be carcinogenic to humans” and proposed a goal of removing them almost entirely from public drinking water. U.S. bank shares dropped on Tuesday after ratings agency Moody's downgraded credit ratings of several U.S. regional lenders and placed some banking giants on review for potential downgrade. It warned lenders will find it harder to make money as interest rates remain high, funding costs climb and a potential recession looms. The warning caught some investors off guard. On Tuesday, SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF's (KRE.P) options-based 30-day implied volatility rose to 31.1%, up from 28.9% touched on Monday. "In the near term, there are reasons for caution about banks in general and we have made changes where appropriate," he said.

That would be the equivalent of taking more than 233 million vehicles off the road from 2022 through 2050. “Better vehicle fuel efficiency means more money in Americans’ pockets and stronger energy security for the entire nation,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said. The administration is aiming to ensure that two-thirds of all new passenger cars sold in the United States are all-electric by 2032, up from just 5.8 percent last year. Both agencies will take public comment on the rules, and then go back to the drawing board before issuing the final, legally enforceable rules next year. But, should a Republican win the White House in 2024, the new president could begin the legal process of rolling back the rules.

Many water districts serve growing populations, leading to higher costs for treatment and distribution. And some water districts are having to replace systems that date to the post-World War II era, said Veronica Blette, chief of the Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program, which helps consumers and businesses find ways to use less water. That helps, but households can use at least 20 percent less water by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances, the E.P.A. Bathrooms are a good place to start because they may account for more than half the water that families use indoors. The latest toilets use just over a gallon of water per flush, or even less, compared with several gallons for older models.

The Biden administration on Wednesday proposed to strengthen requirements for the removal of lead-based paint in homes and child care facilities built before 1978 to try to eliminate exposure to lead, which can damage the brain and nervous system, particularly in children. If finalized, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the regulation would reduce exposure to lead for as many as 500,000 young children per year. “There is no safe level of lead,” said Michal Freedhoff, the Environmental Protection Agency’s assistant administrator for the office of Chemical Safety and Pollution. “Even low levels are detrimental to children’s health, and this proposal would bring us closer to eradicating lead-based paint hazards from homes and child care facilities across the U.S. once and for all.”The new limits could require millions of homeowners and hundreds of thousands of child care facilities to check for dust and pay for abatement. “It dramatically increases the number of facilities that could be required to inspect and remediate lead paint hazards,” Ms. Feedhoff said.

In the thought-provoking exhibition, “Love Songs: Photography and Intimacy,” at the International Center of Photography, two series of photographs by Nobuyoshi Araki face off on opposite walls. In the first, “Sentimental Journey,” from 1971, Araki charts his honeymoon with Yoko Aoki, his young wife. Love and loss. Many of the photographers are charting the end of a love affair. As songwriters have recognized, the pain of a breakup is more emotionally penetrating than the joy of a happy romance.

I always struggle to explain Eid al-Adha. I explain that the holiday commemorates how willing a prophet was to sacrifice anything for God — including his own son. This makes Eid al-Adha difficult to plan for. Depending on where you live, Eid al-Adha celebrations could involve slaughtering a goat, making a donation to charity or attending morning prayers. Celebrating Eid whenever it comes, whether the timing is convenient or not, is a small refusal to be governed — by our workplaces, of course, but also by all the systems that regulate us.

But last year, all-electric vehicles accounted for just 5.8 percent of new cars sold in the United States. The Environmental Protection Agency published its proposed rule earlier this spring and it is in the process of soliciting public comments ahead of finalizing and implementing the rule by the first half of next year. But his administration took the auto industry by surprise this spring with the proposed rule that went considerably further. Biden administration regulators are expected to weigh public comments before revising and finalizing proposals. In a blog post, John Bozzella, the president of the group, suggested that the Biden administration include plug-in hybrid vehicles in its target, rather than pushing for such rapid adoption of all-electric vehicles.

The air in New York City on Wednesday wasn’t just bad by the city’s standards. It was historically bad, even compared with places around the world that generally experience much more air pollution. Wednesday’s daily average was the highest since recording in New York began in 1999. Wednesday’s pollution, of course, was not caused by a power plant or vehicles, but by major wildfires in Canada, mostly in Quebec.

To the Editor:Re “Who Can Rein In the Supreme Court?” (editorial, May 28):Of course there should be a meaningful and enforceable ethics code for Supreme Court justices, but this is not the route to establishing public legitimacy for the institution. Not when the court has been on a mission to eviscerate the Voting Rights Act, and with it democracy itself. The only way for the court to gain the public trust is for it to begin to consistently act in the public interest. Perhaps a mandatory retirement age of 70 for all federal judges, including the justices, would result in more significant turnover on the court. Turnover could also result if we limited justices to 12-year terms, with an additional 12 years allowable upon congressional approval.

MILAN, May 26 (Reuters) - France's Engie (ENGIE.PA) and Amazon (AMZN.O) on Friday officially opened Italy's biggest agrivoltaic farm to supply green energy to the Italian unit of the e-commerce giant. The solar power farm, near the Sicilian city of Trapani, will create power through photovoltaic panels placed high above the ground in order to allow cultivation in the fields below. The rest will go to the Italian power grid. Amazon Italy plans to power all its activities with renewable energy by 2025. The Italian subsidiary of Engie aims to reach 2 gigawatt (GW) of installed green capacity by 2030, its CEO Monica Iacono said in a statement.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court is still great. It’s the greatest gathering of grievances we’ve ever seen on the high court. The woe-is-me bloc of conservative male justices is obsessed with who has wronged them. It might be an opportune time to hire a Supreme shrink so these resentful men can get some much-needed therapy and stop working out their issues from the bench. that did not fit,” according to a classmate who talked to The New York Times.
May 3 (Reuters) - PacWest Bancorp (PACW.O) is exploring strategic options including a sale or capital raising, a source familiar with the matter said, sending the shares of the bank and several other U.S. regional lenders tumbling in after-market trading. The Phoenix-based regional lender said it was "reaffirming its financial strength as well as its deposit growth guidance in response to recent industry events." PacWest stock has lost almost 90% of its value since the regional banking crisis started on March 8. Zion Bancorp (ZION.O), First Horizon (FHN.N) and Comerica (CMA.N) each slumped more than 7% and the SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF (KRE.P) dropped 5%. The cost of insuring against further losses in regional U.S. bank stocks stood on Wednesday near a one-month high in options markets.

May 4 (Reuters) - Shares of U.S. regional banks fell premarket on Thursday, hurt by a 37% slump in PacWest Bancorp (PACW.O) after its announcement about exploring strategic options spurred market concerns of a worsening banking crisis. Zion Bancorporation (ZION.O), KeyCorp (KEY.N), Valley National Bancorp (VLY.O), Comerica (CMA.N) and First Horizon (FHN.N) dropped between 2% and 6%. The SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF (KRE.P) shed 2.8%. In releasing a climate rule for power plants, Mr. Biden hopes to succeed where his former boss, President Barack Obama, failed. had the authority to regulate carbon emissions from power plants but in a limited way. Lastly, the new law provides tax credits to power plant operators that capture their carbon, making the technology more financially feasible. Instead of creating one limit that all power plants must comply with, the E.P.A. “We are eager to review the E.P.A.’s new proposed rule on power plants, and we’ll be ready once again to lead the charge in the fight against federal overreach,” he said in a statement.
Government agencies have intervened to try to address a severe gasoline shortage in Florida, where last week’s torrential rain storms and floods damaged critical infrastructure and left gas stations in the state’s southeast without fuel. The Environmental Protection Agency has stepped in to help Florida increase gasoline supplies, while the state was delivering fuel directly to the areas where the shortage is most acute. Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, said at a briefing on Thursday that the E.P.A. was “quickly processing” a request from Florida “to expand the available supply of gas in the region” and that it was ready to provide additional help if requested. “We are closely monitoring the situation in Florida right now,” she said, adding that the Biden administration had “been in touch with the state to offer assistance.”
April 19 (Reuters) - Shares of Western Alliance Bancorp (WAL.N) surged 24% on Wednesday after the U.S. regional bank posted stronger-than-expected earnings and said its deposits had stabilized, helping allay fears that last month's banking crisis could envelop more lenders. Wedbush Securities raised its rating on Western Alliance to "outperform" from "neutral" and added the bank to its "Best ideas list", among stocks including Apple (AAPL.O) and Microsoft (MSFT.O). Western Alliance's results soothed concerns about the stability of regional banks following worst U.S. banking crisis since 2008. The rally in Western Alliance following its report stood out among several regional banks that have posted quarterly results this week. Western Alliance's stock remains down over 40% from early March, before Silicon Valley Bank's collapse.
