Regulators have so far not mandated any minimum net worth or investor qualifications for those trading stock options, and the stock markets almost always rise each year - both recipes for higher risk-taking and complacency. The "stark" increase in daily options trading turnover raises issues of investor protection, said Ajay Tyagi, former SEBI chief. The platform has seen an uptick in futures and options trading activity, Zerodha said in response to Reuters queries. Siddharth Joshi, a 36-year old from Surat in western India, said he lost 200,000 rupees trading options on Adani Enterprises (ADEL.NS) shares in January. "In options trading, I know my loss is capped but there is an opportunity to make maximum profit," he said.

AdvertisementAdvertisementArgentina is getting ready to choose its next president — and the country's economy is a mess. Triple-digit inflationSoaring prices are perhaps the best-known problem plaguing Argentina's economy, but far from the only issue that policymakers are battling. The currency is managed by Argentina's central bank. If, or more likely when, Argentina's economy slips into another recession, it'll be the sixth such occurrence in the past decade. His proposed policies include abolishing Argentina's central bank altogether and adopting the dollar, which economists have warned could end up pushing the country even closer to a default.

Senator Joe Manchin, a maverick who has often bucked party leadership in the past two years, said on Thursday that he will not seek re-election, hurting Democrats' chance of defending their thin Senate majority in the 2024 election. The move by the 76-year-old lawmaker will make it very difficult for Democrats to defend his West Virginia seat. "We like our odds in West Virginia," Senator Steve Daines, the head of Republican senators' campaign arm, said in a statement. David Bergstein, a spokesperson for the Senate Democrats' campaign arm, said the party was confident in its chances of strengthening its majority. Manchin has insisted that his only motivation is the coal-producing state of West Virginia and an eye on fiscal responsibility.

Wipro will prioritise employees with lower compensation among those eligible for a raise, Bandaru highlighted, adding that "top performers with higher compensation may not be covered in this cycle". Wipro, which had 244,707 employees as of Sept. 30, had already delayed its salary hike cycle. Some industry watchers said the move echoed a larger trend in the tech industry as it tried to address pay inequities among regions and cut payroll costs. While Infosys (INFY.NS) delayed giving hikes by two quarters, HCL (HCLT.NS) skipped hikes for managers.

Larger rival Tata Consultancy Services (TCS.NS) has already asked workers to return to the office for five days a week. One of them said that the cut off point could be closer to 6 billion euros ($6.33 billion). Some analysts had already questioned Renault's hoped-for valuation of up to 10 billion euros, with some suggesting the carmaker should pursue alternative options to raise cash. De Meo said in September that the listing could value Ampere at between 8 and 10 billion euros, above the French carmaker's own current market capitalisation of 9.55 billion euros. Other EV makers have seen their market value fall sharply in recent months. The Ampere IPO would include a mix of Renault's shares and new shares and could happen as early as April 2024, one of the people said, depending on market conditions.

Santos, which aims to start producing gas from Barossa in the first half of 2025, did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment. In a quarterly update issued last week, Santos said an independent expert concluded that there were no specific underwater cultural heritage places along the planned Barossa pipeline route. But the Tiwi people said the pipeline will cause significant damage to ancient burial grounds, aboriginal art and other sacred ancestral sites. Santos was informed about the concerns of the indigenous elders but the company had plans to begin the pipeline construction soon, the group said.

With a "goodwill" repair, Tesla essentially foots the bill for labor, parts or accessories given to keep a customer happy. "Were Tesla to accurately categorize its 'goodwill' repairs as warranty repairs, it would likely need to restate earnings for every quarter since at least 2017," the tipsters wrote in their submission. In one example, the tipsters said screenshots showed other Tesla employees changed the status of material used in manufacturing from "scrap" to "work in progress." In another example, the complaint said screenshots showed Tesla employees had manually changed the status of "used" cars to "new" in a program that tracked vehicle deliveries data. In correspondence to the agency expanding on their complaint, the whistleblowers alleged this raises questions about the firm's independence and objectivity in judging Tesla's financials.

Pranjali Awasthi, 16, came up with her startup while interning in university research labs. Because of the pandemic, my high school had gone virtual, so I was able to intern for about 20 hours a week. In 2020, OpenAI released its ChatGPT-3 beta, and I knew we could use it to make extracting and summarizing research data easier. My parents told me I should take the opportunity – the network alone would be worth it, so I took an absence from high school. I wanted to get a GED, but we compromised on me finishing my high school credits online, which I completed in June 2023.

"This shift, towards the courts, prosecutors and law enforcement units, shows that hackers are gathering evidence about Russian war crimes in Ukraine" with a view to following Ukraine's investigations, he added. Russian hackers have prioritised targeting government bodies and trying to gain access to their e-mail servers, Shchyhol said, without elaborating. An attempt by a Russian intelligence hacking group dubbed "Sandworm" to launch a destructive cyberattack against Ukraine's electricity grid was thwarted in April, 2022. Shchyhol said his department saw evidence that Russian hackers were accessing private security cameras within Ukraine to monitor the outcome of long-range missile and drone strikes. It's not surprising they're trying to bust out of the 2020 Trump coalition, because the 2020 Trump coalition is not sufficient for him to win. Several polls do show him somewhat improved among Black voters. A Quinnipiac University poll in September, for example, showed Trump with 25% support among Black voters. But there was "no such concern" in this case, they argued, " because months earlier Microsoft had archived all the e-mails in Fulton County Superior Court." Attorneys for Kenneth Chesebro, a pro-Trump lawyer, argued the search warrant used to obtain emails from his MSN email account ahead of his indictment "is defective" and the search and seizure of the emails was "illegal." Those two factors are "fatal to the search warrant," they argued. August US housing starts fell to its lowest level in three years in a worrying sign for the economy. "The sharp drop in housing starts is concerning because housing has been one of the pillars of the economy that has held up," a CIO said. US housing starts, which refers to the beginning of construction of a new home, plunged 11% in August to 1.23 million, representing its lowest level since June 2020. The drop in housing starts coincides with a decline in homebuilder sentiment, which fell in September to its lowest level since April.
