"Natural talent is overrated," Grant, a bestselling author and psychology professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, recently told CNBC's "Squawk Box." And I think that leaves us to really underestimate the slow learners, the late bloomers." Those "slow learners" develop such traits by necessity from an earlier age, priming them well for achievement later in life, he added. Late bloomers also tend to be particularly skilled at turning weaknesses into strengths, and if you can master something you're bad at, you're well-equipped to handle most types of challenges, Grant told "Squawk Box." "The feeling that something is uncomfortable is a signal that you're about to learn something new," Grant told the New York Times last month.

Shake Shack this week announced that it will give out free chicken sandwiches if a player celebrates scoring a touchdown by doing the chicken dance. However, unlike other recent fast food giveaways, there's no language in the terms and conditions limiting you to one free Chicken Shack during the promotional period. To activate the deal, you can create your order via a kiosk at a Shake Shack location or using the restaurant's app. You'll need to add the chicken sandwich to your order before checkout in order for the deal to be applied. Shake Shack just last month introduced a hot chicken version of its classic sandwich, topped with hot peppers as well as a cherry pepper slaw.

A little over a year after Spotify first added audiobooks to its platform, the music streamer is making more than 200,000 titles available to its premium subscribers. Users who pay for ad-free access to the service will now be able to listen to 15 hours worth of audiobooks per month. Previously, users had to pay to access audiobooks within the Spotify app. In a release announcing the new perk, Spotify said the 15-hour limit "should get you around two average audiobooks per month." Another big boost to your workplace happiness may be how well you get along with your colleagues. Having great co-workers was a common theme among the top three companies with the happiest employees, according to the latest ranking from Comparably, an employee reviews site. 3 Uber, one employee writes that "what make me happiest at work is the people." Notably missing from the company list are many tech giants including Google, Meta and Microsoft, which continued their descent from previous years and fell off the top 100 happiest companies list in 2023. "Now, you two [Greiner and John] can say you help people do the deuce outdoors," Legg said, on his way out.

Wharton organizational psychologist Adam Grant recently told CNBC's "Squawk Box" about an 'amazing' cover letter he read a few years ago, where the applicant did not have all the qualifications listed. Instead of ignoring her weaknesses, she addressed the elephant in the room by admitting that she was "not quite the fit." I don't have the years of experience and I don't have these skills," Grant said the cover letter read. "She got the job [after that cover letter] and she crushed it." Some of the most in-demand soft skills like time management and critical thinking can be developed in non-position-specific experiences that you can instead demonstrate in your cover letter.

Rising interest rates have slammed the breaks on America's housing market, with home sales down 15.4% year-over-year in September, according to the National Association of Realtors. By controlling the financing, they can offer yesterday's mortgage rates, saving customers tens of thousands of dollars and moving inventory in the process. Tawn Kelley, president of financial services at homebuilder Taylor Morrison, told Insider that financing is an essential part of the home-selling puzzle. Then, there are forward commitments, another way to prepay interest rates that allows a homebuilder to pay down more of it. There are also float downs, which allow purchasers who lock in a mortgage price to reduce their interest rates if mortgage rates get smaller over the course of their mortgage lock.

With rising interest rates, having a good credit score is crucial to keeping costs down since it can save you hundreds of dollars in monthly debt expenses. To improve your credit score, make sure you make debt payments on time and have a wide variety of credit, while using the credit you have only sparingly. Depending on your outstanding debt, improving your credit score by 100 points can save you hundreds of dollars. Every year, around 2.4 million people in the UK get food poisoning– mostly from viral or bacterial contamination. Eating outdoorsI rarely eat alfresco – whether picnics or barbecues – as the risk of food poisoning goes up when food is taken outdoors. For barbecues, meat needs to be thoroughly cooked, and a meat thermometer is a good investment to avoid food poisoning. AdvertisementAdvertisementIt is also possible to pick up food poisoning from eating any raw shellfish (clams, mussels, whelks, cockles). The benefits of being a microbiologist are that we know how to avoid food poisoning and, in return, people have confidence our cooking is very safe to eat.

"The next job for Apple and other Big Tech, under the DMA (Digital Markets Act) is to open up its gates to competitors," Breton told Reuters. "Be it the electronic wallet, browsers or app stores, consumers using an Apple iPhone should be able to benefit from competitive services by a range of providers," he said. Breton also took aim at Apple's arguments that security and privacy issues are the reasons why it has a closed ecosystem.

To date, he has amassed 28 single- and multi-family homes that were worth over $28 million at their time of purchase. This is when the seller provides the loan, allowing the buyer to skip the bank and instead give the monthly payment with interest to the seller. In this instance, the lender will provide the down payment in exchange for either equity in the deal or monthly payments over time. If he has an $8,000 return, he must deduct $5,000 on mortgage payments. Next month, Disney will increase the price of its Disney+ streaming service, where many of these films can be found, to $13.99 per month. If you're speaking with John McWhorter, never use this common phrase: "It is what it is." "The first time someone said that to me was when something unpleasant had happened to me, and he didn't care. "And I parsed it and I thought, 'What a gorgeously chilly way of saying: Your problems don't matter to me.'" But it can come across as so passive that using it can erode other people's trust in you, as McWhorter noted. "Everybody hates multi-factor authentication," cybersecurity expert and former government hacker Kyle Hanslovan tells CNBC Make It. Microsoft has claimed that multi-factor authentication can prevent 99.9% of cyberattacks on personal accounts. Fewer than half of U.S. small business-owners require employees and customers to use multi-factor authentication, according to the Cyber Readiness Institute. They're more likely to choose the path of least resistance whenever they come across an obstacle, like an extra step for authentication, Hanslovan says. Even as Airbnb's popularity and private valuation soared throughout the 2010s, Chesky didn't feel successful, he said — and he thought taking the company public would help. The Airbnb CEO originally moved to Silicon Valley and started his company in 2008 with co-founders Joe Gebbia and Nathan Blecharczyk. In response, Chesky dedicated all his energy to making Airbnb more successful, hoping it'd fulfill him, he said. The ongoing research, which started in 1938, has found that career and financial success don't make participants feel more content. Six months later, the company launched its Airbnb Rooms service, which allows hosts to rent out individual bedrooms in their homes.
