CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday suggested that investors can sometimes lose the markets' big picture, and that it's important to go back to the basic principle behind good investing. "We're looking to find good stocks at good prices and buy them. Part of the big picture today is that the Dow Jones Industrial Average is on a nine-day losing streak, he said. Another part of the big picture is that the markets are heavily oversold, according to Cramer. The last part of the big picture includes stocks that have taken such massive hits that investors miss the positives, Cramer said.

China is focusing on large language models (LLMs) in the artificial intelligence space. On Hugging Face, a repository of LLMs, Chinese LLMs are the most downloaded, according to Tiezhen Wang, a machine learning engineer at the company. Qwen, a family of AI models created by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba , is the most popular on Hugging Face, he said. Facebook parent Meta, as well as European start-up Mistral, also have open-source versions of AI models. While the focus is on AI models right now, there is also debate over what applications will be built on top of them — and who will dominate this global internet landscape going forward.

The U.K. is drawing up measures to regulate the use of copyrighted content by tech companies to train their artificial intelligence models. Some artists and publishers are unhappy with the way their content is being scraped freely by companies like OpenAI and Google to train their large language models — AI models trained on huge quantities of data to generate humanlike responses. Large language models are the foundational technology behind today's generative AI systems, including the likes of OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude. Separately, image distribution platform Getty Images sued another generative AI firm, Stability AI, in the U.K., accusing it of scraping millions of images from its websites without consent to train its Stable Diffusion AI model. Stability AI has disputed the suit, noting that the training and development of its model took place outside the U.K.

CNN —Drinking a small amount of wine each day may protect the heart, according to a new study of Spanish people following the plant-based Mediterranean diet, which typically includes drinking a small glass of wine with dinner. “People often say that ‘wine is good for the heart’ but we also know too much wine is ‘not good for the heart’,” said Paul Leeson, professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Oxford, who was not involved in the study. Igor Alecsander/iStockphoto/Getty ImagesQuestionable conclusionsThe research, published today in the European Heart Journal, is part of an ongoing Spanish study investigating the impact of a Mediterranean diet on people at risk for heart disease. “By measuring tartaric acid in the urine, alongside food and drink questionnaires, we have been able to make a more accurate measurement of wine consumption,” Estruch said. Naveed Sattar, a professor of cardiometabolic medicine and honorary consultant at the University of Glasgow in Scotland who was not involved with the study, advised against drinking wine or any alcohol for good health.

The communication breakdown happens as the social platforms launched in the 2000s have taken on larger lives than anyone anticipated. The candid nature of group chats gives them value and tethers people with looser connections together, but that can also make them unwieldy. Group chats can languish for years; there's no playbook for leaving or kicking out someone who's no longer close to the core group. If a couple breaks up, who gets the group chat? But his group chat might still have the best vibes of all.

In this article, I analyze a bullish set-up for the ETF using classic support and resistance principles. Since then, this level has acted as resistance, a common technical behavior where broken support flips into resistance. Once IBB successfully breaks above the $138 resistance, a $1 wide bull call spread can be initiated to capitalize on the anticipated upward momentum. Low Cost : Each spread costs only $50 per trade, making it an affordable way to learn options without risking too much capital. The Trade Setup : To take a bullish trade on IBB, I'm using a trade structure called a "bull call spread."

CNN —The Federal Trade Commission announced a final rule banning ticketing and short-term rental companies from including hidden junk fees in their total price on Tuesday. Instead, it requires businesses to display the total price, including all additional fees, more prominently than other pricing information. The new rule is part of a broader effort by the FTC under Biden’s administration to combat junk fees. In the last three years, the FTC has announced actions against companies like Invitation Homes and Vonage for charging consumers junk fees. Biden spoke of his intention to crack down on hidden fees in October 2023, when the FTC unveiled the rule’s initial proposal.

In the exit polls, about 1 in 8 voters who described Trump as “too extreme” still voted for him. Likewise, in the VoteCast survey, Trump won 1 in 6 voters who expressed concern that he would steer the country in an authoritarian direction. Trump won almost exactly the same share of voters who said in the VoteCast survey that he lacks the moral character to serve as president. Even among the voter groups most directly affected by these policies, Trump won substantial support from people who disagreed with him. In either case, the result was that Trump won far too many voters who supported legal abortion for Harris to prevail.

Justifying a rate cut in that environment will require some deft communication from Chair Jerome Powell and the committee. Other actions on tapMost Wall Street forecasters see Fed officials raising their expectations for inflation and reducing the expectations for rate cuts in 2025. Officials also are likely to raise their estimate for the "neutral" rate of interest that neither boosts nor restricts growth. That level had been around 2.5% for years — a 2% inflation rate plus 0.5% at the "natural" level of interest — but has crept up in recent months and could cross 3% at this week's update. The "ON RPP" rate acts as a floor for the funds rate and is currently at 4.55%, while the effective funds rate is 4.58%.

CNN —Luigi Mangione has been indicted for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan earlier this month, according to newly released court documents. A Manhattan grand jury indicted Mangione of second-degree murder as a crime of terrorism, according to the indictment. Mangione faces a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, if convicted, according to Bragg’s office. The habeas corpus petition is a key factor in whether Mangione can be extradited to New York. In the weeks since Thompson’s killing, officials have seen a “shocking and appalling celebration of cold-blooded murder,” Tisch said on Tuesday.

New tech is lowering the price of entry in fields like direct indexing and private markets. Private markets face steeper hurdles. Parametric recently launched an offering that allows customers to pick equities off strategies from the financial-advisory and asset-management firm Lazard. If BlackRock successfully indexes private markets, it could go a long way toward boosting that percentage. However, Sinclair said more work is required to help mass affluent investors feel comfortable investing in private markets.

I felt like a failure when I became a mother, so I had to shift my perspective. I have always been a rule follower, and as a teenager, I rarely challenged my Indian immigrant parents' strict rules. Academic success became the cornerstone of my self-esteem as I entered college, and my priorities reflected this. I turned down invitations to socialize, travel, and explore in order to study, study, and then study some more. I struggled with breastfeeding, as many mothers do, and in my postpartum period, I filtered this experience through my default lens of success vs. failure.
