As Election Day approaches, the campaigns are putting significant time and attention toward courting Black men, seen as a crucial — and potentially movable — voting bloc in a tight presidential race. However, that number drops to 68% for Black men under 50, compared to 21% who support Trump. “It’s very important to not operate from the assumption that Black men are in anybody’s pocket,” she said during an interview with the National Association of Black Journalists in September. For Trump’s part, efforts to reach Black men voters through campaign surrogates or Trump himself have lessened in recent months. Bartell also pointed to Kevin Cooper, a Black man on death row for killing a white family, as well as marijuana convictions of Black men.

Human life has no price and is not a commodity.”People demonstrate near Italy's Senate this week to oppose the country's new legislation. Francis has shifted the church’s approach on welcoming LGBTQ people, but has maintained a strong line opposing both abortion and surrogacy. The new Italian law does not differentiate between same-sex and heterosexual couples, nor between altruistic or paid surrogacy, but it will disproportionately affect the LGBTQ community, advocates fear. “Law or no law, same-sex families exist and will continue to exist. LGBTQ activists who protested outside the Senate on Wednesday said that heterosexual couples make up 90% of all surrogacies.

Trump’s comment came in response to a question from NBC News about whether reaching peace would be easier or harder after Sinwar’s death. The former president said, “I think it makes it easier.” He did not respond when asked for further details about this view. He was killed by Israeli soldiers in southern Gaza on Wednesday, according to Israeli officials, though his death was not confirmed until Thursday. More than 42,000 people have been killed in Gaza during Israel’s ongoing offensive after the Oct. 7 attacks, according to local health officials. Harris said Thursday that “justice has been served, and the United States, Israel and the entire world are better off as a result” of Sinwar’s death.

Biden spoke to Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from Air Force One en route to Berlin. Earlier this week, Biden announced more than $400 million in a new round of aid to Ukraine. “I deeply appreciate your partnership and the many times you’ve forsaken an easy choice to make the right choice, Biden told Scholz. “I am overwhelmed,” Biden spoke softly just moments after German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier lavished him with praise and awarded Biden his country’s highest honor. In my view, we must keep going, until Ukraine wins a just and durable peace,” Biden continued, “until once again, human dignity prevails.”

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Vice President Kamala Harris slammed former President Donald Trump on Thursday night, chiding him for calling himself “the father of IVF.”“He refuses continuously to acknowledge the harm he has caused. The crowd heckled and howled at each of the segments, which ended with a Fox News town hall in which Trump took questions from women. "It does get more unbelievable,” one could be heard saying. She did not want to give her name, she said, because she lives in a “divided family” — her husband supports Trump. The moment was carefully coordinated between aides to the president and vice president. For Harris, the complicated politics of the Middle East are unlikely to be made much easier by Sinwar’s demise. And as she headed to Michigan a day later for a three-stop swing, the fraught politics were likely to continue dogging her. The Israel war has proven a complicating factor as the vice president looks for votes among the state’s large Arab- and Muslim-American population in the Detroit metro area. Earlier this month, Harris met with Arab-American leaders in Michigan, where participants encouraged her to distance herself from Biden’s approach to the conflict.

CNN —President Joe Biden envisioned a “day after” for Gaza without Hamas in power following Israel’s killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. This is only half the story, since at times, US officials have suggested Netanyahu had interests in prolonging the war as well. The White House believes that ending the war in Gaza is a precondition for lessening the chances of a disastrous regional war that it dreads. Is really his object to release … Israeli hostages still held in Gaza? If he keeps his word, some analysts will interpret his restraint, such as it is, as an attempt to avoid alienating the possible next president, Harris.

This article is part of “Dealing the Dead,” a series investigating the use of unclaimed bodies for medical research. Tarrant County commissioners discussed terminating their agreement with the University of North Texas Health Science Center at a meeting Sept. 17. Shelby Tauber for NBC NewsTarrant County had delegated the work of contacting dead people’s families and cremating their remains to the Health Science Center. The revamped rules give preference to cremating unclaimed bodies, which is cheaper than burial. For years, Shupe urged officials to stop providing unclaimed bodies to the Health Science Center, saying it was immoral to have them dissected and studied without consent.

Egypt and Bangladesh are among 22 countries deemed “safe” by Italy, a designation that prevents their nationals from qualifying for political asylum, with few exceptions. Under the protocol signed between Italy and Albania last year, those sent to Albania must not show signs of torture, illness or vulnerability or be part of nuclear families traveling together. Those brought directly to Italy instead would fall under EU regulations, which involve a lengthy asylum process. If they are denied asylum in Italy, they will then be deported back to their countries of origin at Italy’s expense. More than 1 million migrants have made it to Italy by sea from North African ports since 2014, according to Italian government statistics and UNHCR.

The meeting “means that the church is coming along, the church is joining the modern era,” she said. CNN has reached out to the Israeli military, which said they could not comment without being given the exact coordinates and time of the strike that killed Jawad. “We strongly condemn these dehumanizing acts and demand respect and justice.”The Dominican Republic, which shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with Haiti, last week said it would deport up to 10,000 migrants per week who were in the country illegally, a sharp increase. So far this month, the Dominican Republic has deported more than 9,000 people, more than 7,000 of those since Thursday, the nation’s migration agency said in a statement on Monday. More than 4,900 of the total were Haitians, a Dominican official who declined to be named told Reuters. If the Dominican Republic follows through on its plan, the number deported in a year would rise sharply from more than 200,000 Haitians forcibly returned last year. FLINT, Mich. — Vice President Kamala Harris met with leaders from the Muslim and Arab American community ahead of her campaign rally here on Friday, a campaign official said. During the meeting, Harris heard leaders' perspectives on the election, as well as the wars in Gaza and Lebanon, the official said. He added that his group asked Harris "to impress upon President Biden the urgency of bringing an immediate end to the violence." Emgage endorsed Harris in September, despite saying that "the vice president still has a ways to go" on certain issues. On Wednesday, Phil Gordon, a national security adviser for the vice president, met virtually with Muslim, Arab and Palestinian leaders from across the country, according to a source familiar with the planning.

The virtual event, organized by Emgage Action, which endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris last week, was the most direct pitch yet to conflicted Muslim and Arab voters from her or Walz. “As-Salaam-Alaikum,” Walz said on the call, using the Arabic greeting, before he turned to the war on many Arab and Muslim voters’ minds. Some Muslim activists and elected officials they say are disappointed to have heard little from the Harris campaign since then. During the campaign, some disaffected Muslim and Arab voters have flocked to third-party candidates like Jill Stein and Cornel West, both of whom picked Muslim running mates and have courted pro-Palestinian voters. “We understand that some Muslim voters, any voter, may feel a moral dilemma voting for [Harris].
