CNN —Hurricane Rafael, a Category 2 with 100 mph sustained winds, is rapidly intensifying in the Caribbean as it bears down on Cuba Wednesday. It will be a strong Category 2 hurricane when it makes landfall in western Cuba Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Hurricane Center. Rafael is the strongest hurricane to roam the northwestern Caribbean in November since 2009, according to data from the NOAA. It’s forecast to become only the fifth hurricane to roam the Gulf of Mexico in November since 1966, according to hurricane expert Michael Lowry. For retailers and consumers finally feeling some relief from inflation, President-elect Donald Trump's tariffs proposal introduces fresh uncertainty around how prices could change during his presidency, analysts said Wednesday. Companies, retail trade groups and industry analysts have warned the move could fuel higher prices on a wide range of Americans' purchases such as sneakers and party supplies. "The adoption of across-the-board tariffs on consumer goods and other non-strategic imports amounts to a tax on American families," National Retail Federation CEO Matthew Shay said in a statement Wednesday. "Despite Trump's assertions to the contrary, tariffs are paid by the companies or entities importing goods and not by the countries themselves. Over time, supply chains would adjust to this change in tariff policy but it would be "incredibly disruptive" in the short term, said Saunders.

Strong economic growth and the commencement of an interest rate reduction cycle have propelled stocks to new heights this year, with the benchmark S & P 500 index up 21% in 2024, as of Tuesday's close. CNBC Pro recently screened data from LSEG to find the stocks in the S & P 500 that are currently priced at a discount and could see outperformance going forward. Industrial company 3M has already risen 38% this year but could climb another 15%, according to its average price target. Mitt Romney won more than 80% in Forsyth in 2012, but Trump won just two-thirds of the vote there eight years later. In 2020, Joe Biden won this county by only 4 points over Trump, while Hillary Clinton carried it by 13 points in 2016. While Trump won it by 3 points in 2016, Biden won Maricopa by 2 points four years later. And that Democratic gain helped the party flip Wisconsin in 2020, given that Biden won the state by just 20,000 votes.
