FedEx reported a steep quarterly profit drop and lowered its full-year revenue forecast on Thursday after its customers continued to trade down from speedy, pricey delivery to cheaper, slower options. As investors are navigating all the buzz about this week's potential rate cut and the upcoming presidential election, JPMorgan is forecasting a serious risk to long-term stock returns. The market appears to be too expensive relative to history, according to the firm, which is projecting a 5.7% annual return from the S & P 500 over the next decade. CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday guided investors through next week's top Wall Street action, highlighting a long-awaited interest rate decision from the Federal Reserve and earnings from restaurant chain companies Darden and Cracker Barrel. Investors are broadly expecting the central bank to issue a rate cut but are unsure whether it will be by 25 or 50 basis points. Cramer said he's betting on the former, saying he thinks the Fed should be measured when making cuts and not risk an inflation flareup. He added that he thinks the stock is a bargain, but cautioned that Wall Street tends to sell stocks from that sector when the Fed cuts rates. On Thursday, Olive Garden-parent Darden , Cracker Barrel and FedEx are set to report.

Slowing rate of change in earnings growth There are two important trends to follow in earnings. In the case of Nvidia, earnings are continuing to increase, but the rate of change is decelerating. This earnings report will likely be the final time in this stretch that Nvidia will see triple-digit earnings growth. Goldman Sachs said the decline in the S&P 500 is historically a good buying opportunity for investors. AdvertisementThe S&P 500's 6% decline over the past three days represents a great buying opportunity for investors, according to a note from Goldman Sachs strategist David Kostin. However, despite the decline, the S&P 500 is still up nearly 10% year-to-date and the sell-off sparked a reset in valuations, with the index's forward price-to-earnings multiple falling to 20x. Advertisement"Historical experience shows that investors typically profit when buying the S&P 500 index following a 5% sell-off," Kostin said. The crux of whether a 10% correction in the S&P 500 represents a solid buying opportunity for investors is whether the economy is on the verge of a recession.

The Japanese government raised rates on Wednesday, breaking from its historically dovish stance. The drop comes just two days after the Bank of Japan raised interest rates in an effort to boost the yen's value amidst higher inflation. The BoJ raised rates from a range of 0% to 0.1% to a benchmark 0.25%. The bank raised interest rates for the first time in 17 years back in March, ending its negative interest-rate policy. Others add that, as the market prices in the rate hikes, it will adjust accordingly.

Small caps should also get a boost from interest rate cuts, which typically translate to disproportionately large gains for the group. That helps confirm what investors are realizing: small caps are the place to be. Small caps also tend to have less of an international presence than their larger peers, so they don't miss out as much when converting overseas profits to dollars.
