Multiple people died as a helicopter struck a radio tower in Houston on Sunday night and sparked a large fire, authorities said. Police Chief J. Noe Diaz said at a news conference that four people were on board, including a child, and that there were multiple deaths when the private helicopter crashed. The Houston Fire Department initially reported the crash took place in the city's Second Ward neighborhood, where the helicopter appeared to have struck a radio tower before it sparked the fire about 7:54 p.m. local time. At the news conference, fire officials said a blaze spread as far as three blocks before it was stopped. Officials said the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration would investigate.

CNN —Universal Orlando Resort announced Thursday morning that its highly anticipated new theme park, Epic Universe, will open on May 22, 2025, just before Memorial Day weekend. “I anticipate that this new Epic Universe theme park will easily crack 6 million plus visitors during its first 12 months of operation,” Speigel told CNN in an email. “Universal Studios theme parks have been on a huge roll since Harry Potter was introduced in 2010.”Speigel said this park will ratchet up the Orlando theme park market, where Universal and Disney are the biggest players. Disney parks are adding a top-tier, line-skipping upgrade with a whole new world of pricing: as much as $449 per person on top of park admission, Walt Disney Co. said Wednesday. The two existing Lightning Lane passes require holders to commit to estimated time windows for specific attractions. Tokyo Disney Resort's Premier Access passes work like the Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Eleven people were hospitalized after eating wild and apparently toxic mushrooms on Friday night, a fire agency that serves Pennsylvania Dutch Country said. The station reported that family members foraged wild mushrooms and ate them that night. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says eating mushrooms foraged outdoors should almost never be done except by trained experts known as mycologists. Most of the known mushroom poisonings and deaths in the United States involve foraging of amanita phalloides mushrooms, known as "death caps," in the wild, the CDC said in a report on the toxic fungi. Eating them can cause death as well as abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and liver damage, the CDC said.

Hurricane Milton has exploded into a monster storm as it soaks up its natural fuel, warm water, in the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center had warned that Milton was likely to strengthen into a major hurricane, defined by minimum sustained winds of 111 mph, and its status was confirmed at 8 a.m. Monday. Up to 8 inches of rain was forecast, with storm surges of up to 15 feet possible for coastal cities, they said. The latest hurricane is a rare product of the southwest Gulf of Mexico, rather than the Caribbean or the Atlantic. Milton started as Tropical Depression 14, in the Gulf’s Bay of Campeche, sheltered behind the western coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula.
