OTTAWA, Canada — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Wednesday that India had made “a horrific mistake” by thinking it could interfere as aggressively as it allegedly did in Canada’s sovereignty. “The Indian government made a horrific mistake in thinking that they could interfere as aggressively as they did in the safety and sovereignty of Canada,” he told an independent inquiry into foreign interference in Canadian politics. In response, India’s foreign ministry issued a terse two-line statement, saying Trudeau’s deposition confirmed New Delhi’s stand that Canada had provided no evidence to support its allegations against Indian diplomats. “The responsibility for the damage that this cavalier behavior has caused to India-Canada relations lies with Prime Minister Trudeau alone,” the foreign ministry statement said. On Tuesday, an Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago made an emergency landing in Iqaluit, Canada’s northernmost city. Air India flight 127 was the “subject of a security threat posted online” and diverted “as a precautionary measure,” the airline said. Multiple flights by Indian carriers have been delayed or diverted due to false bomb threats since Monday. Production at a key Samsung Electronics plant in southern India was disrupted by hundreds of employees striking for higher wages on Tuesday, as top executives sought to resolve a rare episode of labor unrest. Posters saying “Indefinite Strike” went up outside the factory near the city of Chennai, where hundreds of workers in company uniforms set up tents to shade themselves from the heat. According to state-owned All India Radio, federal forensic experts and medical officers were expected to visit the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, where authorities found the body of the 31-year-old resident doctor in a seminar hall on Friday.
