Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)on Tuesday accused Walmart Inc of failing to put an end to severe sexual harassment of female workers by the manager of a West Virginia store and of firing a woman after she complained to the commission. Debra Lawrence, the EEOC's regional attorney in Philadelphia, said preventing sexual harassment requires employers to act "promptly and forcefully." The EEOC filed Tuesday's lawsuit on behalf of a class of female workers who were allegedly harassed by the manager. The commission is seeking an order requiring Walmart to revise its policies on preventing sexual harassment and retaliation, along with backpay and other money damages for the class of women. The case is EEOC v. Walmart Stores East LP, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, No.

Ms. LaLanne’s habit of speaking in aphorisms (“It’s not a problem, it’s an experience”; “You do the best you can with the equipment you have”) is a product of a lifetime of trying to inspire people to move more and better themselves. For nearly six decades, she was both wife and business partner to the television personality Jack LaLanne, who is widely considered the father of the modern fitness movement, and whose exercise show ran for 34 years, from 1951 to 1985. “She was the guiding force behind Jack,” said Rick Hersh, Ms. LaLanne’s talent agent for more than 40 years.

Wall Street is holding onto its outlook on Tesla after it delivered a solid earnings report that nevertheless showed weaker margins after the company's aggressive price cuts. The electric vehicle maker reported revenue of $24.93 billion, beating the consensus estimate of $24.47 billion, according to Refinitiv. "We believe this was a solid 2Q report with Tesla taking market share and slightly exceeding our automotive non-GAAP margin estimate (and beating in Energy/Services)," Delaney said Wednesday. "However, we believe there could continue to be margin headwinds in the intermediate term if Tesla lowers prices to support higher volumes." "Ultimately, the weaker gross margin highlighted the impact of TSLA's aggressive price cutting and, at 9.6%, its operating margin is now approaching the level of incumbent original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)," he added.

The cult of Emily Oster

Emily Oster is sitting in the back of a car, checking her Garmin watch as we lurch through rush-hour traffic toward the Holland Tunnel. A self-described expert in data, Oster uses her economics training to dig into studies on things like circumcision and screen time and translate them for popular consumption. There doesn't seem to be much of a gap between the way Oster presents herself in her books and newsletters and the way she conducts her life. Unsurprisingly, economics informs every aspect of the way Oster sees the world. When Oster was a toddler, her mother told a Yale colleague that Oster often talked to herself before falling asleep.

We fell for an hour, the views out of our observation ports fading slowly to pitch darkness. It was my first submersible dive, in 1993. Now it was the expedition’s last dive after days of frustration caused by bad weather and struggles to find what the scientists were hunting for. My experience also illuminates the risks that the passengers of the Titan submersible ran when they decided to dive on the resting place of the Titanic. But so far they had struck out because of poor weather and equipment difficulties.

Its goal has been to coax consumers to make the leap to its brand with the lower prices. Finding an 'irresistible' price Tesla's price cuts are an effort to take advantage of that growing market. "We have written extensively on the drag EVs have on margins for legacy [original equipment manufacturers] and the impact of EV price deflation. She added that the price cuts are an effort for Tesla to retain market dominance and stave off competition from big competitors like Ford. Longer term, Tesla's price fluctuations could do more harm than good if they end up turning consumers off.

CNN —Conservators at the Guggenheim Museum in New York have uncovered a small dog hidden beneath the surface of a Pablo Picasso painting. The image of a charming lapdog wearing a red bow was revealed by museum experts during a technical analysis of the Spanish artist’s painting “Le Moulin de la Galette” ahead of an exhibition of his early works. “Le Moulin de la Galette” depicts a lively scene at the titular venue — a famous Parisian dance hall that was painted by other artists including Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Modifying paintings later became part of Picasso’s regular practice, Barten said, adding that “Le Moulin de la Galette” is now considered one of the earliest examples of this. “Le Moulin de la Galette” is the “centerpiece” of the Guggenheim’s show, said Barten, whose team of conservators also restored the artwork’s surface by removing decades of dirt and non-original varnish.
Goldman on the best way to play the EV market from here

Investors looking to play the burgeoning electric vehicle trend may want to consider hedging their bets on auto suppliers, according to Goldman Sachs. "We believe that the best set-up for stocks is where there is the combination of achievable Street estimates and an ability to grow even in a sluggish macro," he said. "We attribute this to conservatism from tier 1s after a protracted period of supply driven production weakness, macro demand uncertainty, and a desire to have achievable guidance," Delaney wrote. Aptiv is one way Goldman recommends playing this strategy, with shares of the automotive technology supplier poised to rally nearly 49% from Friday's close, based on Goldman's $138 price target. Goldman's price target implies roughly 33% upside from Friday's close.
