California, Colorado and Hawaii will soon allow their residents to vote on ballot measures that would remove language from their state constitutions prohibiting same-sex marriage. The landmark 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, guaranteeing same-sex couples across the country the right to marry, makes these state bans unenforceable. However, these ballot measures seek to proactively protect these marriage rights should Obergefell ever be overturned. Without Obergefell, there is federal legislation that would keep same-sex marriage rights mostly, but not entirely, intact: the Respect for Marriage Act. It’s a personal issue for LGBTQ couples who had to navigate a time when same-sex marriage wasn’t legal or straightforward.

It's been a year since New York City began enforcing its near-ban on short-term rentals, including Airbnbs. While the number of short-term rentals has plummeted, the effect on the housing market is unclear. AdvertisementNew York City's ban on most short-term rentals was supposed to make housing cheaper in the city. In September 2023, NYC began enforcing new regulations — known as Local Law 18 or LL18 — that severely restricted short-term rentals. With so many Airbnbs out of the short-term rental picture, they've been able to charge more.

CNN —Daniel Maldini became the third generation of his family to represent Italy on Monday, as the Azzurri thrashed Israel 4-1 in the UEFA Nations League. Are we living through another Lamar Jackson MVP season? The Bears defense has also been phenomenal and will keep them in games even when Williams will inevitably struggle, as all rookies do. The New York Times looked at some 7,400 emails sent by the Trump campaign since Mr. Trump entered the presidential race. Ms. Harris, and before her Mr. Biden, have far outpaced Mr. Trump in fund-raising this cycle, including from small-dollar donors. But both in sheer number (about 75 emails per week, on average, throughout this campaign cycle) and in syntax, the former president’s campaign emails stand out. The former star appellate lawyer who allies once cast as the smartest person in the room remains confounded by the realities of Donald Trump. Roberts was shaken by the adverse public reaction to his decision affording Trump substantial immunity from criminal prosecution. The Roberts Court has been in sync with the GOP political agenda largely because of decisions the chief justice has authored: For Trump and other Republicans. But the politically charged valence deepened in the justices’ resolution of the case against former President Trump on election-interference charges from 2020.
