An image saying that U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was arrested as a teenager in 1998 for killing several dogs was created by a social media account that has since been suspended. The image (archived) circulating online includes two different pictures and the text: “Why won’t anyone discuss why a teenage Buttigieg strangled 5 dogs? @CNN @washingtonpost @nytimes.”One picture shows a newspaper folded in half, so the name of the publication only reads “South Ben.” It says that a local teenager named Pete Buttigieg was arrested on suspicion of killing at least five dogs. There is no story about a teenager arrested for killing dogs or involving Buttigieg. A news clipping saying Pete Buttigieg killed dogs in high school is fabricated.

(AP) — A Missouri prosecutor has dropped and refiled the murder case against Pamela Hupp, a killing that inspired a TV miniseries. Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney Mike Wood charged Hupp with first-degree murder in July 2021, accusing her of killing her friend, Betsy Faria, a decade earlier. The original case had been moved on a change of venue to Springfield, about four hours away from Lincoln County. The Faria case was the subject of an NBC miniseries last year, “The Thing About Pam,” which starred Renee Zellweger. In that case, Hupp staged a fake kidnapping to divert attention from herself in a reinvestigation of the Faria killing, prosecutors said.

The Association of American Law Schools on July 10 is convening a virtual conference focused on admissions in a post-affirmative action landscape, chaired by Berkeley Law dean Erwin Chemerinsky. Alongside strategies to recruit and admit diverse students, Zearfoss said the changing demographics of the law school applicant pool have helped Michigan Law bolster student diversity—good news for law schools now facing an affirmative action ban. The law school also prioritizes recruiting at events geared toward minority applicants and at college and universities with significant minority enrollment, Zearfoss added.
