The latest numbers indicate Threads is up 175% from a year ago when it reached 100 million users. The app is also up from 200 million monthly actives since Meta's second-quarter report in July. The app is now signing up more than 1 million users per day, Zuckerberg also said on Wednesday. X remains ahead of Threads in terms of users, with research firm Sensor Tower estimating in March that the app had 550 million monthly users.

Five people have been charged in Texas, accused of organizing and participating in an illegal cheating scheme that certified more than 200 unqualified teachers and saw the plot’s “kingpin” rake in more than $1 million, prosecutors announced. Investigators noticed a pattern: Numerous teacher certification candidates who previously failed certification exams would drive from faraway Texas cities to the Houston area to take an exam. Then a tip came in that exposed the cheating scheme. The Israeli military expanded its offensive in Lebanon overnight, striking bank branches across the country to target Hezbollah‘s finances in an assault that sparked panic in Beirut, as Secretary of State Antony Blinken was heading to the Middle East to push for a diplomatic solution to the intensifying regional conflict. But it also comes as Israel prepares an attack against Iran itself. The U.S. and Israel have linked the bank to the Iran-backed militant and political group. An NBC News crew in Beirut heard the blasts ring out as Lebanese national media reported strikes on bank branches in the city's southern suburbs. Meanwhile, video shared on social media and geolocated by NBC News showed buildings on fire and collapsing after apparent air strikes.

Scores of people have been killed in Israeli strikes in northern Gaza this weekend, according to local officials, with the bloodshed in the enclave and continued attacks in Lebanon dimming hopes that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar might breathe new life into cease-fire talks that have been stalled for months. The Israeli security cabinet is expected to hold a meeting Sunday afternoon to discuss plans for a strike on Iran, an Israeli official told NBC News. In northern Gaza, the local health ministry on Sunday said at least 87 people were killed, with more than 40 others injured, in Israeli strikes on residential areas in Beit Lahia on Saturday. Videos and photos emerging out of northern Gaza showed devastating scenes. Israeli forces on Sunday continued operations in Gaza and in Lebanon, with the IDF saying troops remained active across the northern, southern and central ares of the Strip.
