When my daughter went off to college, I wanted to call her every day just to hear her voice. AdvertisementWhen my daughter got off the bus after the first day of kindergarten, she talked non-stop until she went to bed. I learned to communicate with my daughter differentlyWhen I went to college, we had a phone in our dorm room, and it cost money to call home long distance. But just like when we went off to college, they need the space to make the transition into adulthood without us hovering. AdvertisementWhat I've come to realize is how often parents talk with their college kids is as widely different as how often married couples have sex — and the end result is the same.

AdvertisementFor the leading voices in the uncommitted movement, that's missing the point — and it's insulting. The "Listen to Michigan" campaign was originally conceived in a memo drafted by Waleed Shahid, a progressive strategist and former spokesman for the left-wing group Justice Democrats. "There is an entire menu of things that President Biden could do to move in the direction of discontinuing the funding of the killing," he said. What uncommitted voters are ultimately looking for is a sense of seriousness and clarity that they feel has been lacking from Biden. Uncommitted movement organizers do not seem to be taking glee in embarrassing Biden.

He was able to scale the business to more than $600,000 in revenue by 2018, when he graduated from high school. Before the internet, starting a business was a serious hassle. The problem wasn't that people weren't interested in starting a business: A 2016 EY study found that 62% of 18- to 34-year-olds had toyed with venturing into business ownership. That has made starting a business all the more appealing — and affordable — for prospective entrepreneurs. And with the plethora of digital tools we have today, starting a business is more accessible than ever.

AdvertisementSensor Tower shows that Instagram downloads were up 20% in 2023 compared to 2022, in contrast to TikTok's 4% year-over-year growth. Instagram beat TikTok not only in growth, but sheer volume of app downloads in 2023: Instagram had 767 million while TikTok had 733 million. One reason is Threads, the newly launched Twitter competitor, which requires an Instagram account and may have prompted some people who were curious about Threads to re-download Instagram. AdvertisementTikTok is getting oldAt the same time, TikTok, once the main existential crisis for Instagram (well, probably still is), is faltering. In 2014, that same age group (which we are trying not to refer to as middle-aged) accounted for only about 20% of Instagram users.

The app far outpaced TikTok in global downloads last year, according to data from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. Instagram downloads increased by 20% in 2023 compared to the previous year, Sensor Tower estimated. The simplest explanation is that Instagram's short-video product, reels, is pretty much just as good as TikTok at this point. "Instagram already has reels, and it already caters to a broader audience because it has those other social-media features," explained Abe Yousef, a senior insights analyst at Sensor Tower. Both TikTok and Instagram did not respond to a request for comment.

The "Love Is Blind" season six reunion didn't shy away from addressing off-screen drama. AdvertisementThe "Love Is Blind" producers did not come to play in the season six reunion. His "Love Is Blind" ex-fiancée Laura Dadisman and current girlfriend Sarah Ann were also asked to confirm that was true, which they did. Not only was that scene excellent drama, but it was extremely cathartic to see Laura say her piece and warn Sarah Ann about Jeramey being fake — even if Sarah Ann didn't actually listen to her warnings in the end. Between the nearly two-hour delay for the "live" broadcast and the Lacheys failing to address some of the most controversial topics of the season, season four star Zack Goytowski served as the voice of the fans more than the actual hosts.

Users can edit DMs, switch off read receipts, and pin messages from their top contacts. AdvertisementInstagram has announced a new feature that allows you to edit a direct message — as long as you realize your mistake within 15 minutes. You can also switch off read receipts if you don't want someone to know you've seen their message. Read receipts can be altered by going to "messaging and story replies" in account settings and toggling the read receipts button off. Direct messaging also allows content creators to make money through subscriber-only group chats or to pitch paid partnerships with brands.

One of the biggest reasons for our shrinking social circles is the loss of fringe friends — casual friends that you enjoy seeing occasionally. No strangers to extraordinary circumstances, the couple fell for each other while tripping on mushrooms. It was February 2022, and Dr. Jacobs, a clinical psychologist, and Mr. Radnor, an actor and musician, were at a sound meditation retreat held in upstate New York, along with about 30 other people. Childfree workers told Business Insider they often feel pressured to cover for parents at work. Benson's not alone in experiencing the tension of splitting work between childfree workers and those with kids. For childfree workers, it may lead to resentment, or feeling like their time isn't as valuable. And that might, in turn, lead to childfree workers being asked to take on more. But the childfree workers, parents, and experts that Business Insider spoke with say that making it a worker-to-worker dispute takes the onus off of companies and policy.
