Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul whose alleged sexual misconduct fueled the #MeToo movement, has been indicted on new charges by a New York City grand jury, Manhattan prosecutors announced during a court hearing Thursday. The new indictment is under seal, prosecutor Nicole Blumberg told Judge Curtis Farber, who has set a trial date for Nov. 12. NBC News was the first to report this month that a grand jury had been convened to hear from women who had come forward with new accusations against Weinstein, 72. Weinstein was convicted in 2020 of third-degree rape of one woman and first-degree criminal sex act against another woman after a trial in New York, where he was sentenced to 23 years in prison. New York prosecutors announced months later that they intended to recharge Weinstein for the same crimes and possibly bring forward new charges.

CNN —A Manhattan grand jury has indicted Harvey Weinstein on new sex crime charges, according to his attorney Arthur Aidala. “The grand jury has indicted Mr. Weinstein,” prosecutor Nicole Blumberg said during a court hearing on Thursday. It could include sexual assault allegations from three women, prosecutors said at a separate hearing last week. One alleged assault occurred at a residential building in lower Manhattan in the winter months between 2005 and 2006. NFL owners voted Tuesday to allow private equity firms to take a maximum 10% stake in teams. The league has never allowed private equity investment before. No other league takes a percentage of the so-called carry — the percentage of a fund's investment profits that managers typically receive as compensation — for all private equity firms. The NFL has informally told investment firms that if they make a return on an investment, it wants a portion of the profits to be returned to the league. It was unclear if the NFL's plans to take a piece of profits would deter future investment from private equity.

A few well-known regional banks are poised to benefit from the Federal Reserve's upcoming interest rate cuts, according to Evercore ISI. Fed Chair Jerome Powell indicated on Friday that the central bank is ready for interest rate cuts ahead , although he declined to provide the exact timing or extent of the cuts. As investors await the Fed's moves, Evercore ISI used its updated asset/liability committee scenarios and several banks' net interest income commentary to find which names appear strongest in a lower interest rate environment. According to the note, Comerica, U.S. Bancorp and Fifth Third each forecast two interest rate cuts this year. Comerica shares dipped more than 10% on July 19 after the company posted its second-quarter results.
