Boeing is trying to get employees back to the office with happy hours and alpaca visits, the WSJ reports. CEO David Calhoun has taken over 400 private jet trips from his homes and is rarely seen in the office. David Calhoun took over as Boeing CEO shortly before the pandemic, when like most office workers, he started working from home. Is he like at Lake Sunapee or something in New Hampshire?" The Journal reports that several Boeing employees then began displaying "Lake Sunapee" signs in their offices, and others had souvenir mugs like one that read: "Love Lake Life."

A view of the exterior of the JP Morgan Chase & Co. corporate headquarters in New York City May 20, 2015. REUTERS/Mike Segar/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 7 (Reuters) - J.P.Morgan on Thursday said supply chain disruptions from a potential United Auto Workers (UAW) union strike would cut new vehicle production, drive up used car prices and put pressure on margins in the personal auto insurance business. The automakers "represent about 40% of light vehicle auto sales (by units) in the U.S., and IHS Markit estimates that a strike would disrupt North American vehicle production by roughly 75%," J.P.Morgan said. The brokerage identifies Allstate Corp (ALL.N) and Progressive Corp (PGR.N) as the insurers with the most exposure to a potential UAW strike, with Allstate more susceptible due to its weaker capital position. Used-car prices have had the most impact on auto margins in recent years compared to other factors such as higher spare part costs, labor costs, increased litigation, and severe accidents, the brokerage added.

Courtesy NVIDIA/Handout via REUTERS Acquire Licensing RightsAug 28 (Reuters) - Increased analysts' estimates since Nvidia's (NVDA.O) strong quarterly report last week have left the world's most valuable chipmaker trading at its lowest forward earnings multiple in eight months. Nvidia's forward earnings valuation plungesAt that price, Nvidia shares are trading at the equivalent of around 33 times expected earnings over the next 12 months, according to Refinitiv data. That forward PE compares to over 46 a week ago, and it is now at its lowest since December 2022. Price/earnings ratios help investors gauge the value of companies, but relying on analysts' estimates of future earnings creates uncertainty. Following its report, analysts on average expect Nvidia's revenue for the fiscal year ending in January 2024 to reach $53 billion, nearly double the previous year, according to Refinitiv data.

Every company has to start somewhere, and for Uline, that beginning was 1980 in the Illinois basement of Dick and Liz Uihlein. Dick Uihlein started Uline to sell a product called a carton sizer, "one of the neatest little tools I'd ever seen." Bit by bit, the Uihleins added more packing supplies to their selection and slashed delivery times to the minimum — a decade before Jeff Bezos launched Amazon. "It's weird to develop a love of corrugated boxes and shipping supplies, but I really enjoy it," Liz told the Milwaukee BizTimes in 2020. The Uihlein family as featured on the Uline website.

Consider the simple roundabout — a traffic circle well known in Europe but less familiar across most of America. Proponents say roundabouts can dramatically reduce crashes, injuries and deaths, can improve traffic and even save a city a fair bit of money. "'Can you get rid of this traffic light near my house or near my business?' The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which is funded by the insurance industry and issues widely watched crash test ratings for vehicles, says roundabouts are considerably safer for drivers and pedestrians and cause much less congestion than traffic lights. Strategists expect profit at S&P 500 (.SPX) companies to have dropped 6.4% in the second quarter from a year earlier, according to Refinitiv data. Morgan Stanley:Much of the stock market rally this year has been driven by a price-to-earnings expansion, signaling investors likely remain unconcerned about near-term earnings pressure. Still, "better-than-feared" earnings are not going to be good enough in Q2 considering stocks have become more expensive, the strategists say. Goldman Sachs:Companies will likely be able to beat or surpass "the low bar" set for the second quarter. This suggests a "muted market reaction" to Q2 earnings is likely, given robust gains in stocks since the first quarter and an "overweight" equity positioning, the bank says.
