Some people say that "accounting isn't sexy" and that it's hard to get people to become accountants. AdvertisementDuring my sophomore and junior years, I interned with a tax firm and a CPA firm doing bookkeeping and tax work. I joined a national firm doing tax work in 2018. AdvertisementLater that year, I job-hopped to another local CPA firm and worked in a client-facing position doing tax and accounting work. Fixing the culture at some accounting firms and modernizing pay incentives would go a long way toward changing the profession's image.

AdvertisementIn one quick conversation, my holiday to-do's have more than doubled — along with the knot in my stomach. Now, I'm responsible for all the seasonal magic my parents once created, plus my own family's stuff. But being responsible for my mom and 11-year-old (even with my husband's help) is enough to ramp up my stress. Grabbing one of my kid's markers, I add "dog food" to my list and consider crossing off "Mom and Dad's tree." Taking time to process also makes me aware of one very important fact: I'm keeping number 12 on my list, "Mom and Dad's (extra-tall) tree, " forever.

Maybe my son will decide to have children earlier than I think, and I'll get to cuddle my newborn grandchildren and spoil them. Or perhaps he won't want kids at all, and I'll need to let go of that dream.

Most of the organizations whose leaders responded to the survey had multiple executive roles in the tech and data spaces. This includes chief information, technology, data, information security, digital, analytics and AI officers, and sometimes more. Just because Spens expects confusion about who to report to in the tech leadership space doesn't mean he thinks businesses should accept it. "It's something that organizations need to think about seriously," he said. Spens says identifying so-called "supertech leaders," or integrated technology leaders that combine at least two traditional tech titles into one, is key.

CNN —The cold-blooded assassination of a health care CEO has uncorked a torrent of public anger at the health insurance industry. Satisfaction with health care coverage has never been high in the more than two decades during which Gallup has tracked it. Here, the government only provides health care for the neediest, through Medicaid, and older Americans, who generally qualify for government-run health coverage in Medicare. Dropping satisfaction with a notable government-run systemStruggles with health insurance are not unique to the US. Yet, the US political conversation barely turned to health insurance during the recently concluded presidential campaign, and the health care system was not at the top of voters’ concerns in public opinion polling.

The Wisconsin man, who allegedly faked his own death before turning up alive and well overseas, returned to U.S. soil where sheriff's deputies booked him into jail, authorities said Wednesday. Ryan Borgwardt arrived in the United States on Tuesday and was taken to the Green Lake County Jail on unspecified charges, Sheriff Mark Podoll told reporters. Borgwardt is accused of staging his Aug. 12 disappearance while kayaking on Green Lake, about 100 miles northwest of Milwaukee. When Borgwardt didn't come home on that day, searchers found a capsized kayak and his vehicle and trailer parked in Dodge Memorial County Park. On a recent episode of his popular podcast "A Bit of Optimism," host Simon Sinek asks restaurateur Will Guidara the question "Should you do business with your friends or should you not mix the two?" Sinek and Guidara agree that the answer is highly dependent on who the people are. However, Sinek could name one red flag that might signal you and a friend should not go into business together. "If you have no money you shouldn't choose a business partner who is a multi-millionaire," Sinek said. And once you start to resent a friend, it's hard to salvage even the personal part of that relationship.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by gift giving this holiday season, adopting Blumenthaler’s approach of eliminating or even limiting gift exchanges in favor of shared experiences might help create new holiday traditions. But gift giving doesn’t always create the desired outcome for the giver and recipient. Some people have eliminated gift giving entirely, shifting their focus to shared experiences such as traveling, donating to charitable organizations or both. “There are reasons that people could say no to gift giving that help us refocus on the relationships,” Ward said. “Research says accompanying a holiday gift with a letter that talks about the relationship can be equally or more rewarding than just giving a gift,” Ward said.
