He added that foreign intervention in human-rights reform in Egypt "is fated to fail" and would harm the country's people. Seif said her family has exhausted every legal route in Egypt to secure her brother's release, to no avail. "After COP, I don't know if I'll be alive or not," she said.
CNN —The mediator sent to Burkina Faso by West Africa’s main political and economic bloc ECOWAS, Mahamadou Issoufou, on Tuesday said he was satisfied by a meeting with the country’s new military leader Ibrahim Traore. Burkina Faso’s government released a statement saying the meeting took place but provided no further comments. ECOWAS is struggling to facilitate a return to constitutional order in Burkina Faso, Chad, Guinea, and Mali, all of which have seen coups since 2020.

"I apologize for the way this process has unfolded, and I am deeply sorry." Speaking after the Glasgow Climate Pact had been agreed by nearly 200 countries, Alok Sharma, the U.K.'s COP26 president, captured the feeling of disappointment held by many inside the conference center. China and India, which are among the world's biggest burners of coal, had amended the language in the pact from a "phase out" of coal to a "phase down." It's a far cry from the crucial 1.5 degrees Celsius rise that would limit the worst effects of the climate emergency, a target dating from the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement.
