As President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to lead the CDC, Dave Weldon, a former congressman from Florida and a physician, is positioned as an important anti-vaccine ally for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump's pick for health secretary. The CDC is responsible for tracking and responding to infectious diseases, developing vaccine guidelines, collecting and analyzing health data and managing public health emergencies. Gabbard and another contentious Trump pick — Pete Hegseth, who has been tapped to lead the Defense Department — came under sharpened scrutiny Sunday as the spotlight shifted from Matt Gaetz, Trump’s toppled choice to be attorney general. Trump’s pick of Hegseth is also facing uncertainty after the release last week of a 2017 police report detailing an alleged sexual assault in California. But the withdrawal of Gaetz — who was already widely disliked in Congress — may leave senators feeling they owe the president-elect on his other highly controversial choices. Trump’s new selection for attorney general, Pam Bondi, is meanwhile being welcomed by many Republicans, suggesting she’ll have an easier path to confirmation than Gaetz. But that would still leave the question of who is acceptable to Trump while being confirmable in the Senate.

As Republicans on Capitol Hill lay the groundwork for extending the 2017 tax cuts, cracks are already emerging on one of the biggest questions: how to handle the cost. Extending the tax provisions is estimated to increase the deficit by $5 trillion, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Yet many lawmakers are quick to dismiss or explain away the number, arguing the tax cuts will ultimately help the economy and, subsequently, revenue for the government. Some top tax leaders, including Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, the incoming chair of the Senate Finance Committee, have downplayed the $5 trillion estimate, which assumes that the 2017 tax provisions set to expire at the end of 2025 have already done so. Yet a group of deficit hawks are worried about the ballooning deficit, and think any tax package needs to be fully offset.

So, I think President Trump is picking reformers for these Cabinet positions. After the midterms Joe Biden said that there was no way President Trump would ever be back in the White House. I also think he's going to face some skepticism by Republicans on using the military, for instance, going kind of into different states.
