This process, known as river piracy, set in motion a chain of geological events that reshaped the landscape, scientists reported Monday in the journal Nature Geoscience. While some instances of river capture and landscape remodeling began millions of years ago, others are happening today, she added. Evidence of one ancient example still exists around the edges of the Himalayas, where long-ago river capture eroded deep gorges. Han’s simulations suggested that river capture would have dramatically increased the flow of water in the Kosi’s lower segments. A pilot died after two single-engine planes collided mid-air on Sunday in Southern California, officials said. The planes, a single-engine Nanchang CJ-6 and a single-engine Yakovlev Yak-52, collided near Lancaster, in northern Los Angeles County, around 1 p.m. PT on Sunday, the Federal Aviation Administration said. One plane had landed near the intersection 47th Street East and Ave F and the other near 60th Street East and Ave G in Lancaster. The Yak-52 plane is a Soviet-era from 1930 that is owned by Fight’s On! The Nanchang CJ-6 is a Chinese military aircraft from the 1960s used for basic training.

CNN —Almost three decades ago, Richard Hays, a United Methodist minister and the soon-to-be dean of Duke Divinity School, wrote what quickly became the go-to traditionalist Christian argument against same-sex marriage. Fuller Theological Seminary, where Christopher Hays is a professor, also demands agreement with a faith statement that opposes same-sex marriage. Even as support for same-sex marriage has plateaued in the last few years, recent surveys from Gallup find that more than one in five Gen Z Americans identify as LGBTQ, and nearly 90% of Americans under 30 years old support same-sex marriage. The reversal from Hays certainly will not settle the debate among Christians when it comes from same-sex marriage. But I hope it makes opponents of same-sex marriage at least pause and wonder — is there a faithful path forward that makes room for people like me?

A lawyer who represented Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger will prosecute Karen Read, whose murder trial in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend ended with a hung jury, when the case is retried, officials said Wednesday. In a statement, Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey said he appointed attorney Hank Brennan to lead the effort to retry Read as special assistant district attorney. Morrissey described Brennan as a skilled former prosecutor and a long-time defense attorney with an expertise in complex law enforcement matters. Brennan was a longtime lawyer for Bulger before the crime boss was killed in a federal prison in West Virginia in 2018. The lead prosecutor in the case, assistant district attorney Adam Lally, will remain on the team that will retry Read, according to Morrissey’s statement.

The American Academy of Pediatrics issued a statement in 2012 to strongly recommend against the use of recreational trampolines in kids. Jumpers on the same apparatus increases injury risk, especially for the smallest individuals, according to the AAP. CNN —At least two people have been killed and 29 injured in a train collision in Egypt, the country’s health ministry said Saturday.
