REUTERS/Joshua Roberts/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Oct 2 (Reuters) - McDonald's (MCD.N) and Wendy's (WEN.O) have defeated a lawsuit accusing them of deceiving hungry diners by exaggerating the size of their burgers. Chimienti, a resident of Long Island's Suffolk County, said McDonald's and Wendy's ads depicted undercooked beef patties because meat shrinks 25% when cooked. The complaint quoted a food stylist who said she had worked for McDonald's and Wendy's, and preferred undercooked patties because fully-cooked burgers looked "less appetizing." He said McDonald's and Wendy's were not legally obligated to sell burgers by advertising them, and that their websites provided "prominent, objective information" about the burgers' weight and caloric content. McDonald's, Wendy's and their lawyers did not immediately respond to similar requests.

CNN —Eating greater amounts of ultraprocessed food and drinks, especially if those items are artificially sweetened, may be linked to the development of depression, according to a new study. Ultraprocessed foods include hot dogs, sausages, French fries, sodas, store-bought cookies, cakes, candies, ice cream and many foods containing artificial sweeteners. For one, there is a known link between ultraprocessed foods and chronic inflammation, Chan said. For example, studies have linked ultraprocessed foods colorectal cancer in men and heart disease and early death in both men and women. In addition, the study is observational, which means that researchers can only find an association between the onset of depression and the intake of ultraprocessed foods.

But on Monday, in honor of National Cheeseburger Day, McDonald’s customers will be able to get a double cheeseburger for just 50 cents, only 45 cents more than what the chain’s original hamburger cost in 1948. According to the company’s official website, a McDonald’s cheeseburger typically can cost as low as $1 and as high as $2.79. And Burger King would likely be forced to abdicate his throne if the monarch did nothing for National Cheeseburger Day. Loyal customers who join the chain’s Royal Perks program will get a free cheeseburger — but only if they spend at least a dollar. Many burger chains have offered deals on National Cheeseburger Day in past years.

The fast food giant is celebrating Monday's National Cheeseburger Day by discounting one of its most popular menu items: the Double Cheeseburger. Users who open the app will be prompted to take advantage of the National Cheeseburger Day promotion, and the discount will be automatically applied at checkout. It's the latest app-based promotion from McDonald's, which in July gave out free fries in honor of National French Fry Day. But the 50 cent burger isn't the cheapest burger being offered by a fast food chain on Monday. Wendy's is one-upping McDonald's by offering a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger from Sept. 18 through Sept. 22.

Many people might describe certain foods like chocolate, cheese or potato chips as "guilty pleasures." If you want a single serving of potato chips, for example, it's going to be one to two ounces. Single-serving bags of chipsWhen I open a full-sized bag of chips, I can lose all sense of what a single serving is. That's why I've switched to one-ounce mini bags of chips, as they're usually perfectly portioned out to be a single serving. My fiancé and I love going out to dinner for date nights, and we often share entrees or desserts.

Jimmy Buffett died of skin cancer at his home in Sag Harbor, N.Y., on Long Island, according to a statement on the singer-songwriter’s website. After Mr. Buffett died on Friday at age 76, his site announced the death but did not give a cause or specify where he died. In an update over the weekend, the website said that he had Merkel cell carcinoma for four years. A rare and aggressive form of skin cancer, Merkel cell is diagnosed only about 2,500 times a year in the United States, and until recent years it had carried a life expectancy of five months. He sold at least 23 million albums in the United States alone, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, on par with Jimi Hendrix and the Beastie Boys.

Jimmy Buffett built a pop-culture empire on the daydream of “wastin’ away again in Margaritaville”: just hanging out on a tropical beach, drink in hand, a little wistful but utterly relaxed. Buffett leveraged it into a major brand for restaurants, resorts, clothing, food and drink, as well as a perpetual singalong on his robust touring circuit, where his devoted fans — the Parrot Heads — gathered eagerly in their Hawaiian shirts. Buffett cannily marketed his good-timey image; it made him a billionaire. He came up with wry song premises like the one behind “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” which starts as the lament of an attempted vegetarian who can’t resist carnivorous impulses. But Buffett’s songwriting wasn’t all smiley and one-dimensional.

Make it a cool pickle summer with this easy method

Sure, you can preserve food with a more advanced water-bath canning method, especially if you’re planning to save your summer pickles for up to a year. Or add pickled vegetables such as green beans or cauliflower to a grain salad or grain bowl as a topping. While pickled vegetables are always welcome in pasta salad (and potato salad, for that matter), they also bring an unexpected zing to hot pasta recipes. Or add pickled shallots, broccoli or peppers to pesto-sauced noodles. And when it’s too hot to think of anything else to do, there’s always “snack dinner” with a variety of pickled vegetables to save the day.

The financial and psychic toll to being a mogul in exile would be great, two Trump biographers told Insider. Social media’s latest fast food fascination has a simple formula: one sesame burger bun plus 20 slices of American cheese. This invention from Burger King Thailand has no sauce, pickle or vegetable adornments. Nor does it have a patty. By many accounts, the cheese is often not even grilled or melted. In an email, it described the Real Cheeseburger as a “limited-time offer.”

Bangkok CNN —Burger King is causing a stir in Thailand with its new offering: a burger with no meat and a jaw-dropping amount of cheese. This week, the Thai operator of the fast food chain introduced what it calls the “real cheeseburger,” a bun filled with as many as 20 slices of American cheese. This is for real,” Burger King said in a Sunday social media post. At one Burger King branch in Bangkok on Tuesday, a shift manager was overheard saying the outlet had to stop taking delivery orders so they could have enough stock left for walk-in diners. In Thailand, cheese is especially popular among young customers, and it is common for the dairy product to be sprinkled on all kinds of dishes.

In describing a potential Trump second term, Christie said "the reruns will be worse than the original show." Chris Christie of New Jersey is testing the presidential waters once again — and he's focusing his fire at onetime political ally former President Donald Trump. McDonald's is cooking up a series of upgrades for its most iconic burgers. The fast food giant announced this week that it would be making "small but tasty improvements" to the Big Mac, McDouble, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger and hamburger. Though the ingredients for all the burgers will largely remain the same, McDonald's says that changes to the preparation of its sandwiches will improve the quality of the finished product. McDonald's promises that its buns will be "softer" and more "pillowy" than its existing offerings. The grilling process is being modified to get a better sear on each burger patty, and the chain will make unspecified "tweaks" to its burger assembly process "to get hotter, meltier cheese."

New York CNN —McDonald’s, which has been focusing on upgrading its core items to boost sales, is rolling out a series of changes designed to improve its signature burgers. The Big Mac will come with more Big Mac sauce. “In an environment where our customers are looking for the simple and familiar, our core menu items have never been more relevant,” he said. McDonald's USAFocusing on promoting its core menu items, rather than introducing new products, is a way to keep processes simpler and reduce friction in the kitchen. “Throughout 2022, some of our most successful campaign platforms brought our customers closer to the core menu items,” Kempczinski said during the January call.
