Once, more than a decade ago, Rosetta Getty was asked by her daughter’s elementary schoolteacher, “Are we going to discuss the elephant in the room?”Ms. Getty didn’t know what she meant. “The fact that Violet basically acts like a boy and dresses like a boy,” the teacher said, according to Ms. Getty, who said she replied nonchalantly. “We don’t make a big deal about it,” Ms. Getty recalled saying, bracing for whatever came next. “She actually was cool about it,” Ms. Getty said in a recent interview for this article. The teacher told Ms. Getty she wouldn’t divide the class by gender for group projects or anything like that; Violet wouldn’t be forced to choose.

It is known for its sustainable practices, including free public transport. I was especially looking forward to free travel by train as it's more sustainable than flying or driving. Met a representative from Visit Luxembourg for a walking tour and lunch at a local restaurant. In comparison, my flight from Edinburgh took about five hours, not including travel time to the airport. Meanwhile, the Visit Luxembourg spokesperson suggested seeking accommodation within or close to Benu Village, an ecovillage in Esch-sur-Alzette (about a 20-minute drive to Luxembourg City), which is being built using recycled materials.

The two leaders will meet Wednesday at Filoli, a secluded estate along Northern California’s coastal range. It was built in 1917 as a private residence and later became a National Trust for Historic Preservation site. The estate is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of San Francisco, where leaders are gathering for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders’ conference this week. “It appears to be a quiet, secluded estate, where Biden and Xi can have an intimate conversation in a relaxed environment,” Glaser said. The gardens feature in Jennifer Lopez’s film “The Wedding Planner.”——AP writers Didi Tang and Colleen Long in San Francisco, and Zeke Miller and Matthew Lee in Washington contributed to this report.

Last month, the French Senate voted 221 to 82 in favor of the proposal banning gender-inclusive language from official French documents. Now it seems, another legitimate arm of state power — the French Senate — has taken matters into its own hands. As Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the left-wing populist France Insoumise (France Unbowed) party said on X: “The French language belongs to those who speak it.”But the right embraces it. And he is someone who has embraced all efforts to cement French as a central language for the world. It’s all part of the French president’s ongoing campaign to boost the use of French everywhere.

In her 25 years of making films, Sofia Coppola has always found the poetry behind the headlines, the banality in the glamour, the soul in the superficial. “(Priscilla) wasn’t looking to make a movie out of the story,” Coppola told The Associated Press in a recent interview. They shot out of order: On some days, Spaeny was teenage Priscilla in the morning and adult, pregnant Priscilla after lunch. Though there are endless photographs and video footage of Elvis and Priscilla, those photographs have disappeared, Coppola said. Before the film's premiere in Venice, Coppola said she wasn’t making “Priscilla” for Elvis fans.

Late last year, it installed 38 chargers for electric trucks operated by Maersk at two sites in the Los Angeles area. There were 1.8 million conventional medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles operating in the state in 2021, according to data from the California Air Resources Board. Arnold said electric charging sites might be more lucrative than traditional industrial outdoor storage properties. The EV-charging business' chicken-and-egg problemOne of the biggest constraints to the development of charging sites is the availability of power. PDS operates about 320 diesel rigs, Gillis said, but because of the rules, will purchase "20 to 30 electric trucks" a year to steadily electrify its fleet.

REUTERS/Clotaire Achi/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsPARIS, Oct 22 (Reuters) - France, already on its highest security alert, is to boost security at airports around the capital and on trains after a wave of bomb hoaxes, the transport minister said on Sunday. Alongside the heightened risk, there were "people who are playing with fear", he said, referring to the wave of fake bomb alerts that have hit transport networks, schools and cultural centres over the last week. Since last Wednesday, there have been 70 bomb hoaxes in airports in France, he said, adding that almost all of these alerts were sent from the same Swiss-based email address. Beaune told France Inter that hoaxes are not "small jokes, they are serious crimes" and that they will be investigated.

The Senate is indirectly elected by France's mayors as well as regional, departmental and municipal councillors. Le Pen's Rassemblement National had been widely expected to make a new breakthrough in the Senate but the score of three wins was above expectations. Under France's Fifth Republic, the Senate has less influence over legislating than the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament.

Payouts will come from a "fair fund" created under a settlement between Musk and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, arising from Musk's August 2018 post on Twitter that he had "funding secured" for a Tesla buyout. The fund was originally $40 million, with Musk and Tesla each contributing $20 million, and grew to $42.3 million with interest payments. Last week, the SEC said 3,350 claimants would share the $41.53 million payout, recouping 51.7% of their losses. He is expected to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out an appeals court decision upholding the decree. The case is SEC v Musk et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No.

A worker uses a backhoe to grub up an area of vines during snow fall in a vineyard in Haux, some 25 kms southeast of Bordeaux, southwestern France, on January 18, 2023. Those words from a wine producer in Bordeaux underscore the huge challenge facing the famous French region as it undergoes a massive transformation. "In the next five years, we will see less vines in Bordeaux," Sylvie Courselle, an agricultural engineer and enologist at Château Thieuley, told CNBC. "Climate change can accelerate this," Courselle told CNBC, adding that in recent years winemakers have had to deal with hailstorms, frosts and droughts that significantly impact the crop. She thinks that, going forward, the biggest challenge will be access to water — one of the most essential ingredients in wine production.

Its owner was known to accept paintings in lieu of payment — “My kind of hotel,” Picasso joked. In 1960, burglars broke in and stole 21 canvases, including a Braque, a Léger, a Mirò and a Modigliani. The influential Lord Brougham “discovered” Cannes in 1834, when a cholera epidemic interrupted his progress to Italy. Besotted by the Arcadian surroundings, he built a villa. If someone gets pregnant in space, the radiation could harm them or their embryo, scientists say. Space companies could end up with lawsuits and bad press if they don't talk to tourists about this. SpaceXIt may not even be possible to get pregnant in space, but it's probably not worth taking the chance. That's partly because space research has long been dominated by government agencies. Their findings may not be applicable to humans at all, but they offer hints that reproductive functions could be affected by space radiation and microgravity.

Today, the roughly 230 open-air booksellers, stationed along the Seine for about two miles, make up the largest open-air book market in Europe. About 170 of the stalls will be required to close for at least two weeks during the Paris Games, according to a copy of a document that city officials showed bouquinistes at a meeting last month. After the empty arenas of the Olympics in Tokyo, postponed to 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, and in Beijing in 2022, organizers in Paris are aiming to bring back grandeur to the Games, which begin July 26. In Paris, with its perfectly preserved mid-19th-century facades, there is more concern about preserving traditions and elements of the city during the Olympic Games than in other cities. The city allows bouquinistes to sell rent-free, but some have had to resort to selling cheap souvenirs rather than books to earn a living.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., sent a letter urging the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate Tesla and its board of directors over possible "conflicts of interest, misappropriation of corporate assets, and other negative impacts to Tesla shareholders" related to CEO Elon Musk's Twitter takeover. The take-private deal included $13 billion in debt, and Musk reportedly sold billions of dollars worth of his Tesla shares to finance the transaction. In recent weeks, Musk appointed Linda Yaccarino, who previously ran global advertising for Comcast's NBCUniversal, to the role of Twitter CEO. Her hiring stirred hope that Twitter's beleaguered advertising business would soon recover and that Musk would return to focus on Tesla and SpaceX. For a brief moment, after Celine canceled its men’s wear show in Paris because of the recent unrest in France, there were concerns about whether last week’s couture shows would go as planned. Thom Browne, for his debut couture show, turned an opera house into a wonderland full of fantastical suiting. Valentino showed ethereal gowns against the backdrop of the Château de Chantilly, a palatial property outside Paris and one of the most extraordinary venues I’ve ever photographed. In the crowds outside the shows, there was noticeably less peacocking. Others traded boxy clothes, which have dominated the style of guests and fans in recent years, for pieces with softer, more fluid silhouettes.

BORDEAUX, France, July 7 (Reuters) - Italian Tour de France rider Alberto Bettiol took to social media on Friday to ask French President Emmanuel Macron to return the Mona Lisa to his home country. "Monsieur le Président, please give us back the Monna Lisa and thanks for coming to the Tour," Bettiol tweeted, using the Italian spelling for Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece. Macron paid a visit to the world's greatest cycling race on Thursday, where he shook hands with Bettiol, of the EF Education EasyPost team. It was kept it at the Palace at Fontainebleau, where it remained until King Louis XIV moved the painting to the Palace of Versailles. Following the French Revolution it was moved to the Louvre museum where it is still displayed.
