A new federal rule will prohibit schools from charging transaction fees to low-income students when their families electronically deposit funds into their lunch accounts. A new regulatory rule finalized this month by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau aims to reduce that hassle and make it easier, more secure and always free for customers to switch accounts or to simply transfer or share their financial data from their banks, credit card issuers and other financial service providers upon request. “The problem the CFPB (rule) is addressing is the paperwork required of consumers to change accounts. Non-dairy milk lovers, rejoice. Starting next week, Starbucks will stop charging coffee-drinkers who wish to customize their drinks with non-dairy milk options an extra fee, the company announced Wednesday. Starbucks said dropping the extra charge will make "it easier for customers to make their Starbucks beverage their own" by customizing popular drink recipes with non-dairy milk options, including soymilk, oatmilk, almondmilk or coconutmilk, according to the release. By removing the extra charge for non-dairy milks we're embracing all the ways our customers enjoy their Starbucks," Brian Niccol, Starbucks chairman and CEO, said in the release. Substituting a non-dairy milk is the second-most requested customization from customers, according to Starbucks.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued an El Paso doctor on Tuesday, accusing him of providing transition-related medical care to nearly two dozen minors in violation of state law. Texas enacted a law, Senate Bill 14, last year banning gender-affirming care for anyone under 18. Laws restricting access to transition-related care for minors exist in 26 states, according to the Movement Advancement Project, an LGBTQ think tank. The Texas lawsuits come just ahead of the presidential election, where transition-related care has become somewhat of a flashpoint. The coffee chain will stop charging extra for non-dairy milk substitutions next month, CEO Brian Niccol said during a Wednesday earnings call.
