The AI team at Balyasny Asset Management has been vocal about its ambitions to build an AI equivalent of an analyst, and a recently developed tool called Deep Research is getting it one step closer to its goal. Built by the hedge fund's Applied AI team, Deep Research helps analysts and portfolio managers answer complex questions to research stocks before making a trade. In one recent example, a portfolio manager asked Deep Research to find companies whose supply chains are impacted by tariffs. The Applied AI team wants to continue to level up what the bots can do. Those teams experiment with Deep Research by sending research questions to the Applied AI team to process.

Canada already imposes 6.1% tariff on EVs manufactured in China and imported into Canada, the government said on Monday. The country will also put a 25% tariff on China-made steel and aluminum imports, effective Oct. 15. China is the third-largest country for steel imports into Canada, according to the Canadian Steel Producers Association. Canada's EV, steel and aluminum industries face "unfair competition" and trade practices from China, the government's finance department said. The EU also hit China-made EVs with higher tariffs in July, though it slashed some of the planned tariffs on China-made Tesla EVs as well as other Chinese EV makers last week.

The letter was posted on the committee's Facebook page and on its account on the X social media platform on Monday. The Biden administration "pressured" Facebook parent Meta to "censor" content related to Covid-19, the social media giant's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg , alleged, adding that he regrets some of the decisions taken in relation to the U.S. government's requests. NBC News has reached out to the White House for comment Tuesday morning, but did not immediately receive a response. That year, the White House criticized social media firms, including Facebook, for allowing misinformation related to the coronavirus to spread across their platforms. Zuckerberg's letter underscores the ongoing debate about the extent to which social media firms should moderate content.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has clawed back billions of dollars that countless veterans were given as incentives to leave the military, including when it needed to downsize, according to new data obtained by NBC News. Disabled veterans have been told in the last 12 fiscal years to return nearly $3 billion in special separation pay — lump-sum incentives that were offered when the U.S. had to reduce its active-duty force or release slightly injured service members, the data shows. The justification of the recoupment rule carried over in the 1990s when other forms of special separation payments — unrelated to disabilities — were authorized. Those payments, including the Special Separation Benefit (SSB), were designed instead to help the Defense Department manage its force size. He was told to pay back the money in 2017 after he filed for VA disability for PTSD and other conditions.

Five people have developed Legionnaires' disease following possible exposure to contaminated water droplets from a cooling tower in downtown Lincoln, New Hampshire, state health officials say. Testing by the DHHS and the state Department of Environmental Services confirmed the presence of Legionella bacteria contaminating the cooling tower. Four of the five people diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease were initially hospitalized and later discharged. “RiverWalk is partnering with DHHS to address the contamination, with additional test results for the cooling tower expected next week,” the release said. However, it can cause a more serious pneumonia called Legionnaires' disease, “which can be fatal if left untreated,” the release said.

He said the VA is legally bound to recover special separation benefits from veterans before those eligible can begin receiving disability payments. The VA had to recoup separation pay from 8,130 veterans in fiscal year 2020 and 8,550 in 2021. In 2021, the Veterans Benefits Administration began scanning all veterans’ service and medical records into electronic files, which “reduces the likelihood of this situation reoccurring,” Hayes said. Unique exceptions to the lawVeterans have a chance to pursue a waiver of their recoupment responsibilities for only certain special separation benefits under the law. In 2023, the Navy authorized reducing the amount of disability pay that is withheld while voluntary separation pay is recouped, Navy spokesperson Charlie Spirtos said.

The hypothesis (which Argenti conceded is "completely not scientific") goes to show the incredible momentum of generative AI on Wall Street. Goldman, like its peers up and down the Street, put generative AI tools in the hands of their software engineers to help them write and document code faster. Tokyo CNN —Kudos to you if you can speak perfect Japanese and order food at a neighborhood sushi bar in Tokyo. But overtourism – fueled by a combination of pent-up post-Covid demands (aka “revenge travel”) and the weak local currency – has recently prompted restaurants in the country to consider the merits of differential pricing. This year, spurred by a weak yen that has fallen to its lowest level against the dollar in decades, the tourists are back - in big numbers. “Some people say, ‘We don’t do this in our country.’ But think about how bad Japanese people’s English skills are.
